I absolutely love this place. Hands down, the best place to eat breakfast in the Yakima area. Jennifer and her staff are always so kind and courteous. Plus their food is just great home cooked goodness. I go there any time I can, and my kids are constantly begging to go. Jennifer always has a great attitude and my kids love her. We go on holidays quite a bit, so the food can take time, but we know that's because it's made right then and there. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish. We waited over an hour for our food after ordering, with very little communication from staff about the delay. Long waits can happen, especially on busy days, but what matters is how management handles the situation. Unfortunately, there was no effort to check on us, apologize, offer an update, or make things right. After leaving frustrated, I posted an honest review describing my experience. What shocked me even more was the owner's public response. Instead of acknowledging our concerns or apologizing, the owner chose to attack and insult a paying customer. The response included accusations about my dog, suggestions that I don't support small businesses, and an overall tone that was defensive, hostile, and unprofessional. A business's true character is revealed when things go wrong. Mistakes happen. Delays happen. What shouldn't happen is management publicly belittling customers for sharing their experience. I understand Father's Day is busy, but being busy is not an excuse for poor customer service or disrespectful communication. The owner's response alone is enough to ensure I will never return, and I would encourage potential customers to read the management responses before deciding to dine here. We came here on New Year's day after striking out on a number of other places that weren't open. I've lived here for a long time, but had no idea this place was here. It is the quintessential throwback diner that appears to have largely remained the same for the past 30 years with its decor, and serving up some awesome breakfast classics. The storefront faces the main drag in Terrace Heights, but you have to go around back to park. Upon entering you note that the tables are very reminiscent of stuff you saw in the 80s and 90s, and possibly the table and chairs that you grew up with! They've got a lot of Seahawks themed gear on the windows, walls and some for purchase upfront.our little dudes also enjoyed the fish tank very much. There's a booth that has it as the side barrier and this will henceforth be the booth we attempt to get! The food selection here is solid and while pretty simple, it's done well. The kids menu has everything bear themed including the yogi bear, Honeybear and big bear. The little gents had breakfasts off the kids menu and both were sizable, definitely something that would fill up most adults. One little man had eggs, hashbrowns and toast, while the other had French toast sticks. The French toast sticks were surprisingly good and basically tasted like small funnel cakes. My best half had three blueberry pancakes, and one was probably big enough to fill either of us up. They were excellent! Just a little bit of crispy on the outside, definitely made on the griddle and with plenty of blueberries so we could pick those out when we were done with the carbs but still wanted the sweet!I had the German sausage and eggs with toast and hashbrowns. I was surprised that to carbs game with our selection, but was plenty happy to sample both. The hashbrowns were quite good, very buttery and crisped nicely! The German sausage was also excellent. End of the day, we came to this place on a whim and now it's probably the sort of place were going to be back to. Most of the folks there repeat customers, the gal taking our order new many of them by name and was very friendly. This is a true down home diner that has been in this area for a long time and is doing things very well. It's the kind of place that when you go into you immediately feel like you've been there before and that they actually care that you're there. Wow! Where to start? When you walk in the door, it's like being at home. Whether it's your first, or like me, your umpteenth time. You are treated to such friendly service. We live in Terrace Heights and are so glad Jennifer and Brandon were able to weather what we hope was the worst of the pandemic. The menu is huge. The food is delicious. Don't go without trying the biscuits and gravy. So delicious. Sure, you can run around town and find cheaper places to eat I guess. But why would you. 3.5 stars Positives: Service was great! The gal who greeted and served us was friendly and helpful. The other patrons were also very friendly - it's clear that this is a spot for regulars and people know each other which makes for a really comfortable atmosphere. Loved the big mug of hot chocolate with real whipped cream on top and everything came very quickly. Portions were large - we couldn't finish everything. Food was overall solidly good diner food with one exception.... Cons: the hash browns tasted like they'd been made earlier and reheated. They were dried out and lukewarm. Drat. I had biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns and an egg and a side of strawberries. Biscuits were yummy - gravy was peppery and didn't have any sausage chunks. Egg was a perfect over easy! Hashbrowns were...well...see cons above. Fresh yummy strawberries. Husband had chicken fried steak and his only complaint was the hashbrowns. All told breakfast cost us about $40 with drinks and a tip. Looking at others plates the omelettes and French toast looked really good and we would come back and try them. Horrendous service; very disappointing as reviews on service were excellent. Went out of our way to dine here. We were seated for a long time before we were even greeted, and at the time which was 10:30am on a Thursday, there were only two other tables. It did get busier though during our breakfast. The food was fantastic. Everything we ordered was hot, delicious, and fresh. However, we are so appalled at the service that we will never spend another dime here. Just what we needed to get through the day. My bf & I needed a hearty breakfast & heard that this was the place to go. It was a windy 10 minute walk from my host's house, so it was very close. We were able to order our breakfasts to go. I ordered the senior meals (mostly due to the small portions). I got 2 French roasts, sunny side up eggs & bacon. My bf ordered the breakfast burrito. His meal tasted so good! The breakfast burrito was packed with so much good stuff (i.e. eggs & sausage)!!! It was your typical mom & pop shop. The cashier was very friendly & gave us some really good suggestions on what to eat. Definitely worth the time & money to come here. We are new in town and have tried to eat at Papa Baird's several times. They have a large sign on the road saying they're open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday. Small town home cooking served up here. We were at Papa B's on ribeye steak & prawns night. The meal came with a potato choice - baked for hubby and tots for me, green beans, soup or salad, and faux french bread (I don't think it was garlic). The meal was good. Service was fast and friendly. The tableware is uncomfortable to hold - fork handle was thin pressed metal; made me wish I had a sturdy plastic take out fork in my bag. Worst experience and if I could give zero stars I would especially since we didn't even get to eat breakfast. Went there and seated ourselves as the sign says to do and it was not packed so there were tables available and several staff seen us take a seat. We sat at the table waiting for someone to bring us menus or greet us or something and we didn't even get acknowledged that we walked in the door. After sitting there awhile we watched as other people came in they were given menus immediately before even fully sitting down at their table. After this happened a couple times we were then upset and decided to leave on the way out the door a waitress with a smirk and in a condescending tone told us to have a good day. This was our first time going there and we'll take the hint we were unwelcome and won't be back. Guess maybe we didn't have the look that they prefer walking in the door. read more

Terrible Service, never came to refill water or coffee in almost an hour, three of us ordered chicken fried steak and got fried chicken patties instead, waitress apologized and said they got a new cook and that was the end of it. Not even a 10% discount or an offer to fix, not that it mattered since it took so long to come out we were out of time. Also you better bring a fat wallet if you are getting an omelette as toppings are .85 cents each if you want something besides egg ham and salsa. Never going back! read more

Terrace Heights is a dining wasteland in the Yakima area. You mainly use what's open and keep expectations in check. Papa Baird's is American style cuisine. The servers are very nice. The owners sock you with an undisclosed "service fee" that, I learned after asking, is their attempt to recover charges from their credit card company. Since card charges are part of the overhead of running a restaurant, that may irk some customers. read more
