So sorry to leave this review... maybe the owner of the restaurant will make changes in the process of cooking for the public... We have been going to this next Mexican Restaurant with our family...We love their chili burritos ... here for years .. the only other restaurant with chili relino we love in on Main Dr in Salinas. We thought about a getting a pizza to night it 6:30 ... but it a 35 minute wait so we decided on ordering burritos on the phone and pick them up..... he said it going to be 10 minutes wait .. we were on Fremont be there in 5 minutes...parked right in front ... called him and said We are here !!! No others ordering foods , one man was sitting at stable eating his meal ... for Saturday night , 6:30 that's strange ....the only one parked next to our car, he got out , walked in, he was an other employee who walked in with food bags the employee gave then to the man at the counter .. he said to me it's ready you need to come in to pick up the order...my partner went in to pick them up. The young man went in to the kitchen picked them up and put them in a brown paper bag. He said do you want more taco sauce,, yes ..dhe said that's .25 extra ??? paid $21.35 . cash. she came right out with the brown paper bag. . And got into the car... We were so hungry... we-decided to eat in the car looking right in the front door... I reach in handed out the burritos.. and brought out green sauce packet ...Then looked in bag for red sauce...2 more green sauce packets.no red ones... ( in their Marina drive thru they ask you what you want red and green) she said I'll go back in .., no it's ok , we opened them right in the parking lot spot in front of the store . When I Went to open the paper around the burrito to put green sauce on it... then my flower tortilla fell open...there was something much Spanish rice was it was going to fall out of the tortilla ... I quickly pull the tortilla up from the bottom. Couldn't see anything else while I was putting the green sauce on the inside.. just red rice and big grilled chopped onion .. Finished folded the tortilla up, then the top tortilla extra of the tortilla I had to fold down. We both had to pull the top part of the tortilla off to even take a bite. The first bite it was Spanish rice... took several bites but nothing but rice... and onion .... Both burritos had "No beans or the chili relino .. after several more bites the I thought we got someone's rice burritos.?? I reopened my burrito and look for the relino .. behind the Spanish rice..I found a small amount of refried beens on right side .. there was something under the small spoon full of the refried beans ... it was fried flower batter that they have the chili relino in... it looked like a flat baby picked cucumber from a jar that could have be bartered and fried. . I lifted it up and there was something that could look like the smallest relino .... I thought it may be a flat relino , is it was green the cheese filling was in a relino strand .. from of the center of a relino skin ??? As she continued eating he Spanish rich an tiny relino...never found the refried been in her burrito...but just a very small relino I know that the cost of fresh vegetables is getting higher but I know there are small relinos .. but could not believe any cook would even think he should put such small relinos in a burrito and call that a Chili Relino . Just stop selling chili relino burrito We had a friend who had a Mexican resuming Marina ... I do know that when they make the relinos they make them severe days before refrigerating them, and put them on the grill before make the burrito.. now I put what I found under the refried beans put it down ,rolled the tortilla and Spanish rice in what was left of the tortilla... into a Spanish rice burrito with a spoon of refried beens... and we finished eating the tortillas with Spanish rice... with a green sauce.. no real taste ... in silence...As we thru the paper and napkins in to the brown bag... I finally said "the cook during the week really knows how to make a chili relino burrito... In hindsight I knew we should have ordered a pizza.. at least you can open the box in the car and see a pizza , it's Round Table Pizza is just a cross Fremont in front of the Auto center ... 30 minutes would have been worth it Next time we will goto the restaurant in Salinas for a real chili relino dinner... for a few dollars more .. a bench seats at a table and a Midelo beer ... It's worth the cost of gas .. read more

Got some takeout here! Way better than the Marina location. Loved the fatty bits in their asada meat. Good size burrito as well! Just wish the asada fries were more saucy! read more

Their food is absolutely delicious!! We went to rhe Marina location. It's a little whole in the wall right off Del Monte Blvd in a big lot! Look out for it because it could be gone in "the blink of an eye" we didn't even have to seasoning their food at all! The customer service was excellent! It was the owners son. The food was so good that we went right back through the drive thru again and brought dinner home too!!!! read more

I normally love coming to papa chevos and all of the regular staff but they hired some new guy and bro gave me TWO SAUCES for a SUPER BURRITO. IN WHAT WORLD IS TWO SAUCES ENOUGH???? We needed a place to eat after watching an evening play in Carmel. ( Go to a play in Carmel! They're always fun!) it was about 10:30pm and there's not many places open this late. The three rolled tacos plate was delicious. Really good beans and rice! Tacos were great! I think they were shredded beef. I ate it fast! Super burrito: husband said it was good but the asada was a little salty. Maybe ask them to take it easy on the Salt shaker if possible. This place is no frills, but they do carry Mexican Cokes. As we ate, customers continued to come in for take out. I wish there was a place like this where I live in contra costa county. It was good and I hope to be back here soon to visit. read more

Visited Big Sur and was looking for something to grab on the go to have more time to enjoy the area. Saw a review that recommended the chorizo breakfast burrito. It was one of the better burritos I've had and decent size to share with my gf. Ended up coming back here for dinner and breakfast the next day. While visiting I also had the cóctel de camarón, pollo asado and carne asada burritos. The burritos are mostly protein and made me feel satiated. The cóctel de camarón was made to order and had large shrimp, I think they only offer shrimp on their menu. The salsa verde was tasty and mildly spicy , preferred it over the red salsa. Can't go wrong with the burritos here and will come back for the chorizo burrito! read more

Definitely stick to the breakfast burritos if you come here! The carne for the fries and tacos seemed very low quality and wasn't the best-tasting. The breakfast burrito, however, was pretty good. Heavy on the potatoes (which were seasoned pretty well), and light on the sausage and eggs. Definitely would have tasted better if the proportions were more equal. Overall the store itself was pretty clean and the staff seemed nice enough. Food was served fairly quickly too. read more

Papa Chevos is by far the highest quality Mexican food in the Monterey County. This place is more Mexican than Mexico. In fact, this place has been raided by ICE multiple times. That's how authentic it is. Extremely Mexican interior. Always full of Mexicans. I love this place. The guys that work there are great. The food is amazing, the green sauce is so good you can drink it. Papa Chevos is open all the time, even at 1AM some nights, perfect for helping you recover from being wasted. I love this place. I ordered the carne asada burrito (San Diego style - no rice and beans) and it was very good with the red hot sauce and salsa verde. The burrito was packed with carne asada and the tortilla was good. Typically in most East Bay Area taco shops, if you ask for a carne asada burrito with no rice and beans, then that burrito significantly becomes smaller. Not Papa Chevo's carne asada burritos though. Overall, it was very tasty. I also ordered some rolled tacos w/sour cream, guac, lettuce, and tomatoes also like San Diego style that I'm used to, but it wasn't that good unfortunately. At least they had rolled tacos at this establishment unlike most of the taco shops in East Bay. This place kind of reminded me of home in San Diego. Not bad but not great, let me explain. I ordered a pollo asado burrito with pinto beans and rice. Side of French fries and a Carne asada burrito with sour cream, pinto beans, rice, and guacamole. I wanted to order a California burrito but I wasn't sure about the quality of the food here so I decided to play it safe and get the most basic things with the fries on the side to try. My GF is a little more courageous than I was and dove right in with no regards for her well being. Pretty much one of the only spots that were open late at night in this area. I gave it 3 out of 5 based on quality of food only. Their food is tasty but high on salt, in my chicken burrito the saltiest were the beans. In my gf's burrito both the carne asada and the beans made it heavy on the salt. Don't get me wrong, these burritos will do the job, as I'm sure most of the other items will. But If you're looking for clean eating, I would probably skip out. However, i was surprised at the quality of the fries. They weren't nuked, but just as good as any fast food burger joint. They also weren't as salty as the beans. In the end, it's a fast food spot but a little higher on the quality than most places. Lastly: The staff was super friendly and spoke both English and Spanish. The only downside for me was that they use sour cream and not crema, which made me a little sad inside lol read more

I just ate here for breakfast this morning and unfortunately nothing has changed since I came here like 3 years ago. I ordered two breakfast burritos. One for my wife and one for myself. Both breakfast burritos were completely stuffed full of potatoes. I get it - potatoes are great. But the amount of meat and egg in the burrito were miniscule compared to the amount of potato. I don't think it would have been physically possible to stuff any more potatoes in the burritos. Basically, this place uses a bunch of cheap fillers and very little meat, cheese and egg. read more

Entered and ask if I can get the key to the restroom, the waitress at the register asked if I will be ordering something or have ordered some already and I said "Yes, I'll be ordering." to confirm that I will be a paying customer so I can get the key to use the restoom. Customer asked three times what I have ordered and I replied every time that "I haven't ordered yet", she finally understood and gave me the key but with hisitation. After using the restroom and cleaning my hands I informed the waitress that there wasn't any paper towels available, she said "ok". I returned the key and apologized for my behavior of being in a rush to use the restroom and explained that it's not good for business to make everyone pay before using the restroom, she explained that situation has been abused in the past and explained why thay act like that, I advised her to use her opinion and look and at the customers coming in. I was wearing my work uniform. She didn't understand the advise and I ordered. Because of that little discussion that wasn't about ordering food, I believe my order was purposely sabotaged. Extremely hot, I couldn't finish even half of my burrito, and I didnt go back in for a correction. Everyone knows that the red sauce isn't hot at all, I asked for extra red sauce in the burrito and two containers on the side . Anyone can go in there and order a chicken California burrito with red sauce and you wouldn't think it's hot at all. Either the cook watched the conversation dicided upon himself to mess up the order or the waitress tipped the cook, I don't know, but what I do know that burrito was messed up. I've been going there about 6 years now and the food has always been good, and I'm also a regular at the Marina location, not anymore, word of mouth goes a long way, I'll be honest and not embellish. Not fresh pressed, but not very many restaurants do fresh press anymore. Tortillas were warm and good. This places does not serve beer. I usually have a beer with my menudo.
