This review is many many months overdue but nonetheless this little gem deserves it! I was in business travel from Seattle and had a day to spare so my husband and I decided to explore. We drove through Sedalia because, believe or not, it has many Seattle area transplants and a rather large Slavic population. Now that aside, I randomly had an urge for donuts. It's like I subconsciously knew that magical deliciousness existed in this small down. Now for the best part. Their maple bars are to die for! Ok maybe not die, but I did eat my husbands portion while he drove. I risked a marital argument for these babies! All in all, I ate 4 or 5 within the span of a Springfield drive. In conclusion, everything here is amazing. Skip the diet for one day and treat yourself to this goodness. You won't regret the pounds you gain. read more

As for me every donut I have had at other locations are light airy and not over Powering sweet where I feel like I get a cavity taking one bite. Papa jakes donuts remind me kind of like gas station donuts heavy dense and icing has way too much sugar or sweetness. Device is friendly though and it's a tiny donut shop so when it's busy you feel like a sardine in a can waiting for your turn. read more

Lived here for 3 years and today was the first time we've tried it. To start out this donut shop is a small mom and pop business. There isn't much seating inside, but the donuts are out of this world. I wanted to get a little of everything to try it for the first time so i had a box of 6 assorted small donuts and 6 large donuts assorted. Best apple fritter I've ever tried in my life. Everything else was right along that long. Every donut we tried was amazingly good. I will continue to frequent this business anytime we are in the mood for donuts. read more

Open every day except Monday, these guys apparently the making donuts for a very very long time. Nothing weird or froufrou here, but an excellent selection of cake and raised, glazed and frosted, and some great filled donuts, too (even though they're not usually my thing.) I was happy to see that they even have maple glaze! Tiny building but a few tables for seating. The coffee was not excellent, in my opinion, but I have been spoiled by boutique fancy coffee beans. If you need to send a treat on the way back from the lake, this is a great place. read more

Incredible donuts! Both "cake" donuts (my favorites) and yeast donuts are served are both are excellent! Try a cinnamon roll or a bear claw for a change of pace on yeast style donuts. Be certain to try a white cake donut with vanilla icing and white coconut sprinkles. Incredible! It's all good and considering the quality the prices are excellent. Sure, Papa Jake's costs more than it used to, but so do most other decent restaurants and donut shops. "Consistent excellence" is the description that comes to mind for Papa Jake's. It's always good--fresh every day with plenty of variety. Parking can be a pain although there are a couple of spots on the street. The best solution is to have someone drive you to the small shop and wait while your order is filled. read more

There are many places to get a donut or filled pastry in Sedalia. There is only one Papa Jake's. Small town friendly service and very competitive prices. The raised donuts are absolutely the best in town. Personally, I love the apple fritters. BTW - Papa Jake's began accepting credit cards last month ($5 min.); no cash, no problem. read more

Many times we'd pass through Sedalia MO coming home from KC and if my mom was driving because dad had tied one on, she'd have me run in and grab a dozen because it wasn't acceptable for an inebriated man to annoy other restaurant patrons in a fast food establishment. This would be our dinner and for a 12 yr old in 1974 it was great, but now it was probably not a good diet. I'm only giving 4 stars because I'm not sure if it is still as tasty, so give them a try yourself and post it on here. Sadly, I wish dad could have kicked the habit, but unfortunately he kicked the bucket a few years ago. Alcohol was probably a major cause, so kids, if you see daddy chugging down the devils brew, make him stop. read more

I lived less than a block away from Papa Jake's for several years, and the smells of the freshly fried donuts at 3:30 am would wake me up. Best glazed donut I've ever had, bar none. Krispy Kreme might beat them for volume and efficiency, but nobody beats a Papa Jake's glazed donut. read more

Awesome donut shop! I stopped in on a business trip and unfortunately I did not see the no credit/debit card cash only sign. I proceeded to order a dozen donuts, but as I went to pay I quickly noticed the no credit/debit sign. Feeling like a complete heel, I scavenged through my wallet for the few dollars that I had on me. Unfortunately I was still 3 dollars short. But to my surprise the friendly clerk said that she would spot me and to just pay the rest when I come back to visit. I know it was just a few dollars, but businesses back home don't do that. So I darted out the shop with my dozen, headed to the nearest atm, got the cash and went back to pay the full amount for my donuts. The friendly clerk tried to give me my 3 dollars change but I refused. I'm sure she'll use it to help the next person in need. And the donuts were awesome!!! read more
