It is such a lovely time with the cats. They have 18 here now and they all are super friendly but obviously with their own personalities as well! There was an employee going around recording their weights so I'm sure these cats are taken care of very well, she seemed so happy to be doing her job and knew each cat by name. I'm a dog person, but the more time I spend here, the more I can see myself fostering a cat, and maybe one day adopting, who's knows? It's currently 5$ to get into the cat room and you have he option of buying things from the cafe here as well to bring in. I didn't give the complete 5 stars because the bakery isn't very good here, but I promise, just coming to the room is more than enough reason to stop by! read more

We came to Columbia specifically to visit Papa's Cat Cafe, and we were not disappointed. We made a day of it and enjoyed many other stops to and from Columbia and in town. So fun! We are cat lovers, so this was a treat to sit and play with all these wonderful kitties, most of whom are up for adoption. It's a good thing I don't live in Columbia, because I wanted to take them all home. They're obviously very well taken care of- there was a young woman there walking around and constantly cleaning up. The litter boxes are behind a door, so there was no gross litterbox smell at all. You can also choose to not enter the cat room and enjoy your food & drink from the cafe area. Our food was just ok, but our drinks were great- especially the hot peach tea. I wouldn't come here just for the cafe experience- the cats are what make it interesting for me. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! Both the cafe and cat aspects are phenomenal -- the drinks are all great and decently priced, and the cats are amazing. All of the cats are super friendly and the cafe is truly one of the purest, most relaxing places I've ever been inside. My friends and I love visiting this place to just hang out with the cats and learn about their stories (which are posted on a bulletin board in the back). They're all adorable and the staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The space is well designed, with a cafe side that has all of the food and drink, as well as a relatively small seating area, and a larger room where all of the cats stay. And the cats have plenty of places to hide if they get tired of humans and just want to take a break. To make it even better, Papa's is also super cheap in comparison to other cat cafes -- it's only $10 for an entire hour and it comes with a free drink. You do have to make a reservation and fill out a waiver form, but it's super quick and easy to do online. And, as I've recently learned, they also have special events, like wine nights, book club, and game nights, which I will definitely be checking out the next time I'm in Columbia! read more

My husband loves cats but we can't have one at our apartment, so we decided to visit here a few months ago and check it out. So cool. We came on a quiet day when there was only one other small group of people, so the cats gave us plenty of attention and played with us if we picked up any toys. Our favorite was a long-haired cat who looked like a lion, but I think we got to play with all the cats who were awake. The cafe itself was okay, but nothing spectacular. I ordered a lemonade and expected something pretty fancy for the price, but it was just Simply Lemonade (or a similar brand) from a jug in the fridge. But my husband did enjoy his coffee so all in all it was a good experience. read more

We walked in excited because we had already seen adorable kitty's through the windows walking up. At the counter neither of the people working on drinks said anything to us so we just kind of stood there looking around. The displays were mainly empty of baked goods and what they had were sparse and didn't look appealing at all. We noticed a "menu" on the counter, it costs $5 for 30 minutes to sit with the cats in a separate room. Otherwise you can sit at a window and look at them. We chose to pay to visit the cats and we also bought hot chocolate. The halfway filled cup of coco tasted terrible. Like watered down milk with a hint of powdered chocolate. However, spending time with the cats was amazing and they were all lovely. But the atmosphere wasn't all that homey or inviting. They have some pillows on the ground, 2 cat towers and a couple of toys. There are also rules not to, wake the cats, pick them up or chase them. So basically you're only allowed to pet them. These are shelter cats so they have a board in the corner with info on each cat available for adoption. However the employee that was in the room, while answering questions asked, really just sat there and reminded everyone when their time with the cats was up. I absolutely appreciate what they are doing in giving these babies a better environment than a shelter, I guess I just feel this could have been a more inviting place. read more

This is one of my new favorite places in Columbia. I have lived here for almost 20 years and while I was here for college, I wished for a place like this because my pets were 8 hours away and I missed them. The cats are all sweet and cuddly. Several were snuggling together. The decor is clean and inviting and the cats are all so happy there. I instantly felt less stress upon entering. My first two visits, cats curled up on my lap, and my second time there, I played with a playful cat named Tofu while my niece and nephew played with energetic Pedro. I ordered coffee and several treats, and all were great. I really appreciate this cafe offering gluten-free desserts and partnering with local organizations. Having been to multiple cat cafes, nationally and internationally, Papa's is doing it right--it is my favorite one by far and I will definitely be going back. read more

I went in for a cup of coffee and to see the cats. The coffee was pretty good and the cats were playful and friendly. The staff however were not friendly or attentive to the customers. They were on their phones and I was left feeling like I was an imposition on their time. read more

Excellent environment for people and Cats! I've been a few times the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Nice clean cat room, with plenty of space for them To run about or tuck themselves away for some private time. Today i took my kiddo to the "Kiddy Academy" and wow we struck gold; great group not too loud but had great questions to ask. The women teaching the cat nip lesson engaged very well with all of the children. Definitely will do this again sometime. It didn't matter if they were 2-15 the "teacher" knew how to communicate the info, heck I even learned a thing or two i didn't know. My daughter loved it. A little work on her part, hen look up pet a kitty or two walking around her stealing a crayon lol, then she went back to work participating! My child has ADHD and struggles to focus however they had her attention. Great to have these places poping up! Weather it Michigan or STL, I think Papas is my fav just the right size and atmosphere! read more

Been here a few times and it's a great place that has everything you could want in a cat cafe. It is designed well, with a restaurant side separated from the cat side (which means if you love cats but are allergic, you can sit at the bar and have coffee while watching the cats through a wall of glass). Cats are obviously great--after all, that's why you are here!--and most are up for adoption. That means you're actually helping them out by giving them a good pet while drinking coffee. It's also humanely designed, with places for the cats to hide or simply get a break if they're tired of humans. No lunch or dinner menu, but the snacks and desserts are made fresh, and they rotate, so you never know what they will have. (Just walk over to Lucky's and grab some pizza or a sandwich to eat before you go in.) Finally, and perhaps the best thing: it's a great deal compared to other cat cafes, so it's great to just go for coffee with the cats as a bonus. Anyway, give it a try. After dropping a generous $50.00 for donuts, beverages, and the privilege of spending an hour with 20 cats and my two children, I was swiftly rebuked about my three year old son's spirited and completely age-appropriate behavior. I agreed to leave the establishment, but requested a refund for the last 30 increment of time for which I had paid and would be unable to enjoy. I was informed by staff that no refunds were allowed except by approval of the owner, who would not be available for the next two days. I was told that I should have referred to the print in some lengthy waiver/paperwork that I signed probably a year ago if I was unhappy about their decision to keep my money even if we were unable to stay due to a healthy three year old. I will also add that the cat room smelled so badly of cat feces I was hardly able to eat my donuts in there. This place is advertised on hulafrog as a place to bring children, but it is an overpriced waste of time for families with small children. read more
