Especially when you order ahead on their mobile app. This is not the 1st time I've waited 20-30 minutes for an order after arriving at the store anticipating that I can grab my order and go. Recently I ordered a sandwich and iced coffee via the mobile app at 3:30 pm. Arrived at the store at 3:40 to find a note that said "see barista". After standing in line, I was informed that they were out of lettuce and tomato. After confirming I still wanted the sandwich, they proceeded to take another 20 minutes to make it. Walked in at 8:00pm on a week night and got a good, fresh cup of coffee. I always get the same drink at any coffee place. Regular coffee with a shot of espresso, aka a "Red Eye." It's always a crapshoot since most places are serving burned stale coffee by noon. So, when ordering a red eye at 8:00 I usually temper my expectations. I stopped into Lakota South for lunch and an espresso while getting some remote work done. The staff were friendly and responsive, and the espresso was fine. I was pleased to see there was a vegetarian sandwich option (a mozzarella, pesto, and tomato sub), which was just fine - but fairly priced for what it was. However, I was extremely disappointed to learn this location offers only to-go paper cups. In 2025, perpetuating throw-away culture via single-use disposables is totally unacceptable. The Columbia business community should do better. read more

We come a lot. Ever since the South location opened, it's been the go-to for an afternoon of work. There's a lot of tables, outlets at every table, and clean restrooms. The workers there are always very friendly, bringing your coffee and food to your table. There's a happy hour on alcohol (yes, they have alcohol!) from 5-9pm where all drinks are half off. They also have day old pastries in the front counter. Sometimes they put these out at 5pm the same day, so it's really same day pastries. There's plenty of parking, and this location has a drive through. They're always sending coupons in the mail, so make sure you hold onto them! read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! All I ordered was a large coffee and large hot chocolate. I got my coffee ASAP and me and my husband are standing there waiting and waiting and waiting. Note several people had come up and ordered and got their order during this time. . . Finally a girl behind the line asked what I was waiting on In this bothersome curt voice.. but I though ok whatever... cool someone who gives a s**t that we have been standing there waiting a while...I told her a hot chocolate and she said oh it's down the line and then immediately got to what really was making her seem she had a stick up her a**. She said "could you pull your mask up? I said I'm drinking my coffee! Now remember we are in a coffee and eating establishment where there were at least 10 other people in there talking, playing on their computers and mostly just socializing WITHOUT mask... but I'm the problem. She then Very Rudely asked me to step away from the counter! The kicker is I tipped before the service I received... lesson learned. Loving this new location for Lakota. It's super cozy inside with an appropriate lighting and noise level. There are outlets on the floor by almost every single table and by the bar seats facing the window. There's also bar top seats where you can watch the baristas in action and outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. This location also has a drive through! It seems to be a well oiled machine for its second week. They have your usual coffee and tea drinks, smoothies, milkshakes, draft (Longboat and Bur Oak) and bottled beer, and wine. Plenty of pastries and desserts to go around and sandwiches (both breakfast and lunch/dinner). read more

I absolutely love this place! It's such a cute little coffee shop, with phenomenal coffee and tea, great food, a fantastic ambiance, and wonderful staff. I used to frequent the downtown location before I left for college and was pleasantly surprised when I got back to learn that a new spot had opened up so close to my home. The drinks are as amazing as always. I love their coffee, of course, but I'm also a huge fan of their tea-based drinks like their matcha latte. The decor is also beautiful and, when combined with the cafe music, creates a peaceful and relaxing environment perfect for studying, hanging out with friends, or working. While the downtown location will always have a special place in my heart, the new Southside location is truly delightful. I'll definitely be stopping by here again! read more

Although the coffee is great, the tea selection varied and the hot chocolate dark & creamy, the slow service and limited/always crowded seating (popular place!) make this less than ideal for a casual meet-up. Outdoor seating helps a little, but is weather dependent.It's location is a perfect for Columbia's south vs north housing--a nice halfway point. read more

I've been to the Southside Lakota pretty regularly over the last couple of years, and I've always found their menu and service to be good. Lately however, there's been a drastic decline in customer service and quality of drinks. The matcha I ordered was burned, the chai tasted like oat milk and nothing else, and then when I ordered their "barista's choice" speciality drink, I was met with confusion, annoyance and a ten minute debate amongst the staff about the what the actual drink was. It is harder and harder to recommend a place like this when it seems like the decline is in rapid freefall. Not a single person smiled or acknowledged me while I was in the building. I would pass on the Southside Lakota and take your coffee business elsewhere. read more

How long does it take to make an after-breakfast rush/before noon rush turkey sandwich on toasted sourdough? We are talking full staff, may two orders in front of me. Well, that would be about 23 minutes. minutes. While kitchen staff is giggling on private phone calls. When at last I went front to enquire about the delay, the cashier gave me the "what IS your rush, lady" look, said "it will be here shortly" and when it arrived, was plunked down with more than a hint of attitude. Coffee and smoothies are delicious! Their new bagel/egg/cheese sandwiches are amazing, too. However, they advertise them as bacon/sausage egg cheese sandwiches and I don't eat pork. Ordered a "bagel egg cheese" sandwich and it automatically had bacon on it (I just pulled it off). So if you don't eat or like pork, make sure to emphasize that you don't want any. read more

New favorite coffee shop! This place is awesome. I love that they have a variety of sandwiches (breakfast and lunch) and other food to choose from. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when I'm working at a coffee shop and need a meal and can't get one - problem solved here! Also a huge fan of the fact that they have beer here. This coffee shop fits my needs at any time of day. The baristas are always super nice and friendly. It would be nice if they had more seating and comfy chairs, but that's pretty minor. read more
