Stay away... my husband and I went there for a drink and snack while waiting for our tour bus to return to the cruise ship. We ordered the guacamole and chips from the menu, an older gentleman came to the table with a cart and made our guacamole at our table, i gave him a tip and he proceeded to tell me we owed him $10 directly for him making the guac at our table. I told him thats not what I ordered... after he talked to the waiter, he said nevermind, the tip was enough... we paid the bill and left. A very yucky vibe, watered down drinks and the behavior of the bartenders towards the guests was very uncomfortable. Definitely not our pace and will not be returning. read more

So this place is very much a tourist destination which is ok bc we were looking for decent tacos and good tequila the food was ok tacos were pretty good but they totally tried screwing us hoping we were ignorant American tourists. As a papas & beer I figured we would be treated good bc it's a larger company but they tried screwing us multiple ways. They came by and dropped off chips and guacamole didn't say a word just dropped them off then came by at the end and said we needed to pay 6$ cash for them in a different transaction than our total bill. I said I wouldn't pay bc I didn't even ask for them so he told us 4$ for the chips which i held my ground and told Him we didn't even ask for them he said whatever and walked away. Then when we got our bill (we had ordered 6 shots of tequila at 7$ a shot and 2 orders of asada tacos also 7$ an order) he told us our bill was 86$. I added it up on my phone and told him it couldn't be that much to which he said ok hold on and came back and told us the shots were more expensive than what the menu stated bc and I quote "since trump happened things went up" I once again told him I wouldn't pay more than what their menu price was he went in the back and came back out and told me the price was 61 which was what it should have been. Papas and Beer is the place to go to when disembarking the cruise ship. We were only here for a couple of hours so might as well indulge in the debauchery. You definitely have to experience the tequila shot men flipping you upside down and giving you a shot. That's what happened to me. Each time they give you a shot and flip you upside down, it costs $10 but was worth it. Since we were American, they charged everything in dollars which was actually more expensive than the Mexican menu in pesos, but I suppose it is what it is. They have a pretty good selection of food and drinks although when in Mexico, stick to the beer as those are bottled. In addition, they had hookah which was really cool. The hookah was good for about 1 hour and it costed around $25 bucks which was just included in our bill at the end. I had lots of fun just hanging out with friends and repeatedly watching people getting turned upside down and taking shots. I'd recommend pregaming at a local bar before getting to Papas and Beer because our bill could have been much worse if we didn't do so. read more

Okay this place is not for the faint of heart, if you come get ready to party hard. We came here about 12pm and people were already getting hammered. As we approached the establishment they had a large Christmas tree and a huge 2018 out in the front. Of course there was street vendors trying to sell you everything from ponchos to small souvenirs. We noticed a crowd gathered around a 1 legged break dancer performing for a group of drunken college students. Once inside the place was more than halfway full and people were taking shots by the groups. We went to the first bar we saw and ordered a pair of shot's and a couple of beers to get started because apparently we were way behind the rest of the crowd. Once we posted up we turned around and found waiters/ security guards picking up grown men and flipping them upside down while pouring tequila shots straight from the bottle into their mouths. While this is going on woman are choosing body parts to get slapped by random workers with a bumper sticker. We were curious about the fresh guacamole prepared table side that seemed so out of place for this environment. So as you can tell you should show up with a buzz so you can finish up getting wasted and definitely eat before you come. Even though some of the food looked good this is no place for grubbing. This place is exactly what I expected and it didn't disappoint but you really need to be prepared to party not just sight see. Always a blast, at Papas & Beer. There's a great spot to sit, everywhere. They have sunny or shade areas, with high-top tables and yellow umbrellas. The music is loud and the food and drinks, tasty. The prices are reasonable and they offer free wifi. The entertainment of watching young foolios take shots while being sexual harrassed on stage, is always a hoot. Some local vendors walk by the exterior, to try and get you to purchase something, so you'll be saying "no thank you" often, but it's not over-the-top annoying. Ruben is a cool server. I seem to have him every time I cruise into Ensenada. He's fast, polite, and chill. I ordered the nachos, which were huge, and included ground beef and chorizo. I chose a Sol and Dos Equis and both were very nice and cold. Papas & Beer is within walking distance, if you're in good enough shape and is easy to navigate to. No need to pay for a shuttle, if walking that downtown area. read more

Hmm... I honestly don't know how I feel about this place except they did a good job at harassing everyone at our table (I'm sure it was great entertainment for others though). We came here upon a recommendation from one of our friends after docking from our cruise ship at Ensenada for the day. We walked for at least 10 blocks from the terminal to this place to get lunch and margaritas. The place is really big and clean and pretty much Americanized. After seeing the prices on the menu, we realized that we were looking for a more authentic Mexico eating experience. We ordered margaritas to start the day and while we were waiting for our order to arrive, two of the waiters there asked if there was a special occasion and of course everyone pointed out that it was me and Stel Y's birthday and they took us up to a mini stage and pretty much harassed us in front of everyone. Though it was great entertainment for everyone, I jumped off before they gave me a shot and turned me upside down to shake me (unfortunately Stel didn't see that one coming haha). They continued to pick on other people in our group and do other random things to them. On the other hand, my mango margarita tasted pretty good. Seemed like it had real mango puree in it, but I probably could have gotten the same in San Diego (where most of us lived). My girlfriends and I came here during a bachelorette trip to Ensenada. The vibe is cool, they play good music and a great place to eat and drink. We were seated very quickly. The problem came down to the service. The server initially only took the food order for half of the table (there was only 9 of us). We had to flag him down just to get the rest of us our order. When we were getting ready to leave, we asked for our bill. The server told us it was $350. Most of us were drunk at this point, but one girl was pregnant and sober so she asked for the receipt. The server said that he could just tell us what we ordered but she insisted on seeing what they charged us for. So when we get the bill, it was $281. It seems like he was trying to take advantage of us and hoped that we wouldn't question why the total was $350 without a receipt. Beware tourists, mixed drinks are watered down and make sure you ask for a receipt because they will try to take advantage of your patronage. read more

Be aware of your bill - it is in Spanish and pesos. They tried to charge an extra $50 worth of food and drinks we didn't get. Luckily we had my Spanish speaking boyfriend with us to read the check and tell them what was wrong! And it still took about 5 minutes to convince them that they were not items that we ordered or got! Otherwise it is very loud, they start partying at 11 and poring tequila shots. We docked for the day from the cruise and me and 14 friends went here we all ordered drinks in about 10 of us ordered food and guess what 10 of us that ordered food all got sick we thought it was from the tequila because obviously it's Mexico and we're drinking cheap tequila LOL but it's only the people that actually ate food from there that got sick nobody that didn't eat from their got sick and we all drink the same amount it just seems kind of fishy obviously you can't go complain. Unless you're looking to be robbed on vacation and/or part of the "show", which consists of having your clothes removed, tequila poured down your throat, have your body turned upside down and have other random guests lick tequila off every part of your body, I'd skip this tourist attraction and rip-off joint. My friends and I were on a Carnival Cruise to Ensenada, and decided to get off the ship and have what we thought would be some inexpensive margarita's and do a little shopping. The 3 of us did enjoy our margaritas, but the show which included other guests from our ship wasn't what we bargained for. After paying separately, and enjoying our guacamole which was made to order in front of us, and finishing up our margaritas, the waiter asked us if we wanted more. We said no, and he verbally told us our bill was $47.00. Yes, for 3 margaritas! But whatever, we didnt complain. However, he never gave us a printed bill. While I was digging for the cash, my 2 girlfriends, handed their cash to the waiter, and he left. When he returned he asked for the money for the bill again. I gave him my cash, and he said, now I need the rest. I said, that's for mine alone, you already took theirs. He said, no I saw you take their money, you need to pay up, or I'm going to call the cops. So he pocketed the money, and we had to pay twice for the drinks. So basically 3 drinks cost us nearly $100. Thanks SO much Papas and Beer-loved being robbed on vacation! I'd avoid going to this place all together, and I'll NEVER go to Ensenada again. If I go to Mexico again, it will be at an all-inclusive resort and I won't leave that resort. There's NOTHING in Mexico you can do, or buy that you can't get in Southern California, in the US. DO NOT GET BOTTLE SERVICE AT PAPAS & BEER!!! I went to Mexico last weekend for the first time looking to explore and have some fun with a couple friends. We went down for a local film festival in Rosarito and after dinner one night, we decided to check out Papas & Beer. The environment was pretty crazy but seemed like a lot of fun so we decided to get a round of drinks. After that, we noticed the bottle service area was wide open so we got a bottle with some mixers. Throughout the course of the night, I made sure to constantly tip the waiter, named Fabian, for watching after our table and checking in on us. While we were drinking, we were the only ones at any of the four tables in the area, and we finished about 1/3 - 1/2 the bottle. Myself and my two buddies decided to hit the dance floor for 2 songs and when we returned, our bottles, glasses, drinks had been cleared from the table. When we went to inquire about what had happened, we were told it had been cleared it because no one was there and they needed space for other customers. We looked around and all four tables were completely empty, there was nothing at the tables, and only one other group sat down at them the rest of the night. We then tried to explain the situation to our waiter and was told there was nothing he could really do. He went to go talk to another employee who came over and also told us there was nothing he could do after admitting that it was the employees at Papas & Beer that cleared the table away. On top of that, when I was recounting exactly what went down, this employee, which I will not name for his sake as he was beyond rude, kept looking around and rolling his eyes when I talked to him. Before I even finished retelling the story he HE HAD SPECIFICALLY asked me to, he turned and started to walk away while muttering under his breath. The employee, who asked me to tell me exactly what had happened, actually ROLLED HIS EYES and started walking away and clearing another table. At this point it was obviously frustrated but remained calm as it became clear that this was pointless and the employees don't care about customer satisfaction or having first time visitors to their country feel warm and welcomed. I asked to speak to a manager and another employee, Christian, told me he was the manager, after one of my friends inquired and was told the manager was no longer there. They were clearly just trying to get rid of us after taking our money and bottle and most likely reselling it to other customers for more money. I was there for 30 minutes trying to plead our case, or ask if anything could be done. During this time, not a single employee apologized to us, not a single employee offered us a free round or even one free drink after TWO of their employees had admitted they were the ones that cleared the table after our waiter had said he'd watch the table and not clear it. After about 40 minutes, I left P&B as it was extremely disheartening knowing what they had done. My friends were still engaged in conversations with the employees and stayed for another 20 minutes. After I left, I was told they were offered a free shot of Malibu each, that's it. I understand this isn't the nicest establishment, and the employees here are so incredibly rude that they could care less about the customers happiness as they are only concerned about making extra money -- hence why they stole our alcohol to sell it a second time. The place was fine for partying, but just as a word of caution, do not buy any bottle service and try to limit contact with employees. If you have a problem with something going on, you're best just letting it go as no one seems to care about making up for mistakes, even when they admit it's their own fault. read more

We purchased bottle service at this location. We asked to open our own bottle at the table, no complaint there the waiter agreed and brought it out to our table sealed. When it was time for our second bottle the waiter brought it out and almost immediately my friend made a remark on the packaging. Same whiskey brand and age yet the new bottle had small differences. I would have never noticed, but my friend had read online of how counterfeit booze is sold down here. Wish we could have taken pictures to show but immediately the waiter took it back when confronted and apologized said he would take it back and find one identical to the bottle we had gotten first. Labels were off, the color and size of the bottle was off. You could also see a difference in color of whiskey inside. After this experience I highly doubt I'll go back not worth the hype and rip off tactics. read more

Went by there just cuz it's a tourist trap to see if it would at least be interesting to people-watch. We wanted just to get a drink or two and head somewhere else so we ordered a bucket of beer. The waiter CLEARLY STATED $20 for a bucket of beer. I even asked twice and he said $20. So we hang out and watch a few people get hammered and flipped upside down, it was what it was. Then I go to the waiter and hand him a $20 and start scrounging for a few dollars to tip. He comes back and tells me it's $40. I look at him and tell him, no you told me it's $20. He says let me go get you the receipt. I tell him I don't care what the receipt says, he told me $20, and others in my party heard that too. There's no way we would have ordered a bucket if it would have cost $40. He comes back with the receipt and I tell him I don't care, we're paying $20. He threatens and goes to talk to his manager, then threatens to go get the cops. I tell him to go ahead. After 5 minutes or so he comes back and is angry telling me he'll just pay the extra $20 out of his pocket (yeah right). So we left pissed off, and definitely didn't leave a tip. Then we were across the street talking with a vendor who told us to stay away from Papas & Beer because they double-charge people all the time. Guess we should have talked to that vendor first! Check your receipts and prices beforehand as they'll definitely try and cheat you out of all your money. read more

They overcharged a bachelorette party $700 and refused to fix the mistake. Luckily others were around to help with this and cover the charge. They threatened to call the cops on the group of girls. Overall just a very shady place. You expect certain things going to Ensenada, but this exceeds it. The fact that they got called out on it and wouldn't fix it makes it much worse. Highly recommend avoiding this place. It can be a lot of fun, but knowing what I would have to worry about... not going to ever come back. read more

This happened on 7/15/17 This is my favorite club/ bar to go to when we are in Ensenada & when we go Rosarito. That's if we even get to go out since we have kids.. I've been going there since I turned 18. Mind you I was born in 1981 and I'm no teenager now. Haven't really frequent papas & beer in a few years. But today we celebrated my nephews 23rd birthday. We came prepared to spend money on drinks(money was and is not a problem here) the problem was that we never received a receipt for the first bottle of red Lable whiskey and when we ordered the second bottle we never received it either. My cousin went to the restroom like 2 minutes after getting the second bottle, her and a younger cousin of mine read a sign in the restroom that said if you are not given a receipt for what you ordered- don't pay! So she went and mentioned it to our waiter and he said that he could give the woman in the group shot so my cousin was obviously like No that's not what it says!!! We would want the money back since we didn't get our Bill/ receipt but we did pay them each time.. the point is and was that they have that sign up saying that if you don't get a receipt you should t pay.. they should t have signs up like that if they are not going to honor it. We let 2 general managers know about it there names are Carlos and the second is Osvaldo. After speaking to the first Manager Carlos he said they had just let go of the manager. When we spoke with the second manager that manager said if we gave him the waiters name he would help us. My cousin said she didn't know his name but guess what. I recorded him after my cousin mentioned to him the issue. I showed the video to the manager and all he said was wait here let me check.. an hour later the club is going to close and still no manager, we are tired so we had to leave. A Bartender gave us the name of the general manager for the day time and said we are better off speaking to him. 1 call later and still no response.. it's a great club. Too bad they don't honor what they have up on the walls. Thumbs down for me won't ever be back. I have no idea whether the actual food is any good, bc I can't bear to even walk by. The people they hire to try and get you to come in HARASS and CATCALL you. All the stores in Ensenada downtown try and get you to come in and buy their wares, but the guys they hire for this store are downright SEXUALLY HARASSED my friend and I. The first time, they asked whether we wanted "Mexican boyfriends to go". We ignored them. When went the wrong way and had to come back again: "You must want to come in, you're not doing anything anyways." When we returned to the cruise ship: "Hey, why are you walking away? Honey, you know you want to come and get what I have! Damn, those Asian girls." This was followed by whistling and laughing from all the workers there. Before you start assuming we were "asking for it", we were not. We didn't encourage them, make eye contact, and were dressed very appropriately (especially since the cruise ships are always so cold inside). This is a terrible and insulting way to try and get customers, and I hope you don't choose to support a business that condones degrading women. read more

The bar is filled with too many drunk people. It's pretty ridiculous and disgusting. We sat far away from the stage and got a bucket of Dos Equis to enjoy before wandering around the area some more. The food was pretty good for what it was-Americanized Mexican food. They played good old school hip hop and rap music... But, the guys walking around just try to hustle you. They charge you $15 to pour your own beer and a bottle of Jose cuervo down your throat complete with spinning you upside down and junk. How is that worth $15? Our server was nice and made sure we were okay the entire time which is why we sat around longer than we should've. read more

The reputation for this place probably precedes any visit you will have here. If not, expect to see a ton of drunk people of all ages dancing clumsily in bathing suits while other people not quite as drunk sit around eating nachos and taking pics of each other. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, just know that it is a perpetual Spring Break in this place. I came with my boyfriend while on a cruise, we wanted to have fish tacos and a margarita and stopped here. It was about 2 hours before the ship was leaving port, so most people were on the tail end of their drinking binge. Buckets of beer were being consumed left and right, there were about 5 bikini clad girls dancing on the bar at the far end, and some guy with a cape and a whistle was giving this poor girl shots and then flipping her all over the place. Pretty fun vibe if you're looking for that. Honestly though I really just wanted my margarita and tacos. As far as the food, the margaritas were decent. I got a strawberry and my boyfriend got the mango, and you could taste the real fruit. The tacos were god awful. We got fish and shrimp, and they came on a dry tortilla with tiny cups of rice, cabbage and beans. No crema, no lime to be found. The cabbage was literally enough for one taco. Meh.
