    The appetizer and condiments

This Birrieria came recommended by our fellow Yelp community. Located central of Ensenada and near marketplaces and shopping centers. I came here during lunch hour on a Monday and it seemed moderately busy. Quite the cozy place, very comfortable and it was decorated with Christmas decor. I was seated quickly, and my order was taken efficiently. Chips and salsa quickly came out along with the condiments I would later use on my meal. Overall, I received excellent table service. The focus of this restaurant is on Birria, both beef and lamb. There isn't a variety of other Mexican dishes here such as enchiladas, burritos or seafood. There is instead a plethora of ways to eat the Birria including tacos, quesa-birria, and stew bowls only in beef or lamb. No chicken or vegetarian options available. I ordered the lamb Birria, which came in a standard sized bowl. The portions were modest, and the ratio from broth to chunks of meat was reasonable. While this place was highly rated, I found my meal to be average in both size and taste. When it comes to this delicious dish, I am a bit of a connoisseur, and I've had birria in different parts of Mexico, including Mexicali, Guadalajara, Ensenada and outside of Mexico- restaurants throughout Los Angeles and all the way up to northern California. This was not the best tasting birria I have experience up-to-date but it also was not disappointing. The flavors were standard and fair yet not memorable. I would recommend this establishment. Tip: my usual order at these places is the stew in a bowl with a side of corn tortillas. For those with larger appetites, I would suggest ordering the same thing, but consider adding one-to-two quesa-Birrias to reach satisfaction. I would return here but also leave my options open to try the competition.

This was our next stop after Hussong's, just a quick 10 min walk away. The stroll felt totally safe and actually pretty pleasant in the daytime, which was a nice bonus. We landed here thanks to seeing it on "Best tacos in Ensenada" lists online. As soon as you sit down, they hit you with chips, salsa, and a whole spread of extras. The salsa? Absolute fire. I grabbed their guacamole too and it was good, not legendary. I packed the leftovers for the border wait. Heads up: no chicken or seafood tacos. It's all pork, beef, lamb, goat, and beef tongue. I don't usually eat beef, but when in Rome...so I ordered 1 beef birria taco. It was solid, just not "worth precious stomach space on a day trip" solid. The vibe is lively and very local, and the margaritas come in strong. If birria is your thing, you'll probably dig it. For me, I'd save room and explore other spots next time.

Trust me if you're in town try this place out. I always enjoy going where the locals go and just off the main road this place is nestled. Lots of seating , friendly staff, fresh ingredients and delicious tacos. These were authentic, flavorful and pure goodness. Complimentary chips and salsa to start and although it was piping hot the consome was packed with flavor and a tad bit of spice. The meat so tender in the tacos. I ordered the birria taco plate 1 lamb 2 beef and I should have got 2 lamb. The cook was phenomenal the meat was so juicy and tender.

Food was great, filling, and well priced. Getting there was easy walk from the port and service was pleasant.

Great food, drinks and service in walking distance from the cruise port. We ordered 3 steak tacos and 2 golden margaritas. We especially liked the chips, salsa and other condiments.

Great place for Birria tacos. The reason for one star (I may be alone in this) but they don't serve crema. Also, the drinks we had barely tasted like there was any alcohol, so if you want a cool buzz for lunch, I'd ask for a double. I'm also the type to drench my tacos, but everything was pretty good. I suggest you order queso with any tacos you get. The meat is very flavorful but a little dry sometimes. Great service and the vibe is what you'd expect. Love it for families, especially if you'd rather NOT standing and eating on the street

Great food, good service. We went with a large party close to closing time and enjoyed our meals. The pozole blanco was excellent as well as the queso taco. Would definitely recommend and return when in Ensenada.

Ensenada is not one of my favorite towns in Mexico. Most people spend time on the tourist street:Lopez Mateo. But, if you walk about 75 yards off the main tourist street you can find this great restaurant. I admit the Birria is kind of a new thing to me even though my Mexican relatives tell me it has been around for years. It is basically meat that has been slow cooked with certain spices. Think crockpot. You take the meat and make taco's with all the fixings they give you. We got beef and got the "chica" plate which is the small serving. It was enough for four tacos. The chips were very good as was the salsa. If you are not into Birria yet, they have some other items. What I love most is that this is not a tourist trap. Most of the people in the restaurant were "natives." Want to go for good and reasonably inexpensive meal that immerses you in the culture, this is the place. We'll go here every time we go to Ensenada.

While spending the day in Ensenada, we were on the hunt for a great spot to sit down and enjoy lunch--and this place absolutely delivered. From the moment we sat down, we could tell we made the right choice. The handmade tortillas (both corn and flour) were fresh and delicious, and the meat was incredibly flavorful. The chips were out of this world, and the guacamole and salsas were spot on--fresh, bold, and full of flavor. This spot strikes a perfect balance between local charm and tourist appeal. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience that much better. To be honest, the prices were a bit higher than I expected, but the quality of the food made it worth it. If you're spending the day in Ensenada, I'd highly recommend stopping in for a meal--you won't be disappointed.

We found a new authentic place to eat lunch in Ensenada. Ten of us decided to have tacos for lunch. I loved all the condiments they gave you. And the tortilla chips are light and crispy. Salsa was a little different but pretty tasty. I ordered a lengua taco. It was tender and delicious. For condiments, they had onions and radishes, cilantro and limes. We also got several bowls of gaucamole - it was was creamy and light - really really good. I added all those condiments to my lengua taco - it was delicious! Most of us ordered tacos but someone ordered a make your own tacos with 3 different kinds of meat. That would be a better and more economical way to order. All in all, we'll be back when we cruise to Ensenada again. I also liked how all the locals were there eating.

Perfect spot not far from cruise port. The ambience was authentic exactly what I was looking for. The service was on point, attentive and friendly. The food was amazing worth everything!!! The prices were spectacular, a mist visit!!!

We love, love, love the restaurant. We come here every time we are in Ensenada. Anything you'll order on the menu is delicious. If I were you I'd order the goat birria. But, everything is also good. The food is fresh, the service is friendly. The food arrives very quickly. You can't go wrong here. We usually sit inside, but we had to leave town and ordered to go last time we were there. The restaurant is a half a block off of the main strip in Ensenada. The inside of the restaurant is big and cozy. You'll sit at a large wooden table to enjoy your feast. The first few times we went here we each ordered our own meal. Now when we go, we will order one meal and add a guacamole or another appetizer. The servings are huge. I'll be back in February and can't wait.

I had the beef birria tacos and they were delicious. The consume broth was also very tasty for dipping. The salsas were fresh and so yummy with the chips too. Fresh tortillas being made right there. Everything was great. Will be back when im in town again.

It looked like there was some of a wait time, but it turned out they did have a table for 2 available. The wait time is mostly for large parties. So many yummy options I had a hard time picking. I ended up ordering the combination plate as it included a little bit of everything: your choice of either green or red chilaquiles, machaca (shredded beef not the dry one), egg, beans and some fries. I also ordered fresh orange juice as I can't say no to fresh juices. I ATE EVERYTHING! It was so good I couldn't stop eating even when I knew I was full LOL. Side note def get the coffee as it is really good. We actually ended up buying the coffee they bought with us called La Negrita and is a couple of minutes away from the restaurant. Plus a local coffee vendor. Staff is super friendly and service is fast (for smaller parties). Place is clean and does have parking in the back. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast. Thus we made a point to stop by for food during our second cruise stop in Ensenada, 4 days later. We discovered the large crowds were not in line waiting, but were instead enjoying their ceviche and other cold seafood while standing up. It made for a festive atmosphere, definitely ramping up the enjoyment of really great tasting seafood. The food stall is located facing the main road of Ensenada (walking distance from the cruise port) and is separated into two parts: the front serving seafood tostadas and the back serving cocktails and aquachiles. Each had different lines, with a common guy accepting payment after delivery. They have been doing this for a while (1981?) and things are efficient. I wanted one thing, which was the mixed cocktail with all the seafood available (campechano, a word I've come to love since moving to the LA area). They have 4 sizes from chico ($105) to jumbo ($360). The seafood mix is diced together ahead of time to save on time, and are mostly diced pretty fine. The mix is prepared fresh though, and was ready in about a minute. It was excellent, refreshing and just the right amount for me. I had wanted to try the seafood cocktail again from La Guerrerense (another nearby famous seafood stand), so that was our first stop during our second visit to Ensenada in 5 days. We then visited other sites in the area, saving El Guero for the end before we headed back to the ship. As expected the cocktail from Guerrerense was very good, but this version from El Guero was even better....better selection of seafood, and more finely mixed to give a better representation of the different textures of the freshness. That would make it the best seafood cocktail I've ever enjoyed.
