I had been hearing about this place so when our original plan fell though we popped in here. Easy parking right out front. Was not terribly busy inside a bit dark and music a bit loud but the food was so good we could block that out. The brisket was amazing ! I love that there are 3 choices of BBQ sauce at the table so you can choose. The chicken was also very tender and flavorful but next time definitely getting the brisket. First time trying Paper City we ordered to go. We got 2 meals: pulled pork sando with mac 'n cheese and coleslaw, and the half rack of ribs with mac 'n cheese and Missouri makes beans. The ribs and pulled pork sando were tasty, but for me, I was most pleasantly surprised by the sides (mac 'n cheese and Missouri baked beans). BBQ places often do meet really well but overlook the sides, so I especially appreciate that the meal was good all around. The best bbq I've had in Maine! There's been nothing I've disliked and I'm a reoccurring customer. I haven't tried every meat, but the ones I have had are amazing. For the sides, and let me start with all 3 bbq sauces match perfectly for different sides as well as the meats. My favorite sides are the Mac and cheese, collard greens, and baked beans. The yellow bbq sauce goes great with the beans. I've eaten in and taken to go both on multiple occasions, and it's fantastic every time. I always have a good experience dealing with the staff, waitresses are great, bar is great, their rum and coke- you definitely get what you pay for. And if you're someone who appreciates the vibe, that parts great too. They have a couple of "arcade machines", I'm not 100 on what exactly there is but they have a basketball game. On certain nights they have live bands/ music. Nothing negative to say except my boyfriend doesn't take me here enough! 10/10 read more

This was my first time here and it's a cool place for a beer or whiskey. The food was just ok. I started with the rib sampler and they were dry, but when I added bbq sauce they were ok. I ordered the house made sausage and Jesus Murphy they were so dry that I had to add bbq sauce for every bite. The beans were flavorful and a very good side. Two pints an app and a entree and the bill was $54. The restaurant is very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful with the menu. read more

Large open bar and great place to watch sports. They even have a touch tunes if you want to play music. Lots of bourbon and whisky options, with an interesting cocktail menu. The food is decent for Maine BBQ, but not the best. Decent prices and the service is friendly and always fast. They have a great happy hour! Tonight we decided to change it up with a rib dinner, double cheeseburger and a fried chicken sandwich along with the Brisket. We always order enough for several meals. I ordered food to go. As someone from the Missouri area I have high standards for BBQ. I typically stay away from BBQ in Maine. Maine does a lot of food great but I haven't had great bbq experiences. That being said the fries were on point. As someone who has lived in Missouri I give the Missouri baked beans 5 stars! I will begin with the things that are the most relevant, which is that my order was placed online through the website and that it was an order to go. I will say that I live not terribly far from the restaurant and I did go straight home so there was not a long delay between getting the food when the restaurant opened and when I did eat the food. I ordered the entree that allows you to pick three meats and includes two sides as well as one additional side dish. I chose a side dish that was the same as one of the included sides because I was curious if they would be the same portion size. The location in westbrook means that you have to park on the street, and that makes it a challenge. If you can find parking when you walk into the restaurant it is not small but not large. The largest feature is the bar, which has seating sufficient for eating food. There are several small tables off to the side, and at the rear are small arcade games and at least 2 large TV screens with one on either side of the establishment. I chose brisket, st louis ribs, and pulled pork as the meat options with fries and mac & cheese for my sides. My additional side was more mac. As you can see from the photo, both portions of macaroni were the exact same size. Since the side order was five dollars by itself, I consider that unacceptable on its own. So, how did the food actually taste? I would say that for the most part, it was a fail. The brisket was incredibly dry, and the ribs are not as tender as I believe they should be. While the ribs are large visually, I don't believe there is as much meat on them as I would prefer, and the quality of the meat is not what I hoped for. The french fries were restaurant standard issue and could have been purchased at a fast food restaurant.... and I would not have been able to tell the difference. The macaroni and cheese, which uses a spiral shaped pasta and a very small amount of bread crumbs on top, I found to be in an overly thin sauce and wholly devoid of flavor. The best I can describe it is if you melted american cheese into the consistency of velveta but gave it none of the flavor of either and removed all of the salt. Technically edible, but not worth seeking out. I gave 2 stars because the pulled pork BARELY is a serviceable saving grace here. It shreds well, has some flavor....but more than half a bite worth (without sauce) and it may as well be chewing the most unswallowable of items. If the food both requires and demands sauces to make it edible, it isn't worth it in my book. Sauce should customize and enhance; not be necessary for consumption. read more

If you like brisket, run to Paper City for some of the best brisket I've had anywhere. Crusty, salty and so tender--this brisket doesn't feel like it was made by a Westbrook Yankee. The place is small, sporty and focuses its attention on the food. There are several booths, a full bar---which seems like a perfect spot for HH with a couple buddies! Service was great. Food came out very fast. Served on metal trays with paper like any good BBQ joint would do! Beans were delicious. I realistically would give a 3.5 star rating but since half stars aren't a thing I will bump it to a 4. Been meaning to stop here earlier since it's so close to home and I love me some BBQ. It's hard to find BBQ that blows your socks off considering this is Maine and not somewhere that is known for BBQ. Portland has some very solid options and a couple better than here. Overall though I would return to give this place another try. I appreciate the fact they had a Thirsty Thursday deal for a cheap beer. Beer and BBQ pair perfectly but if whiskey is your jam then go on Wednesday for special pours for a deal. A large portion of the seating is the bar which is fine. As others have mentioned they do have some arcade games as well for some gaming. Service was friendly and quick so no complaints there. On to the part you want to know about the most though, the food. I got the PBLT which I thought was very good especially the aioli that came with it. Based off my fiancée's pick two entree (brisket and pork belly) the meat needs a sauce. Which is kinda a knock because the meat should be able to shine on its own also. Needed to be somewhat more tender and less dry. She was disappointed due to this and would likely pick something else despite loving brisket. I would have the PBLT again but pass on brisket. Overall I would say to set your expectations a little low. It's decent and parking is better than downtown Portland but quality isn't quite as good as some of the other local options. I am blown away. This is hands down THE best BBQ I have ever had, and definitely is the new BBQ crown jewel of the Greater Portland area. I ordered the ribs which were moist, tender, fell off the bone, and very well seasoned. And the seasoning is more than just smoke. Whatever they use for a dry run is *chef's kiss*. My friend ordered the pulled pork. Often I find PP can be dry, stringy, only flavored with smoke, heavy, etc. This pulled pork was INCREDIBLY flavorful. I don't know if there is cinnamon in the rub but there is definitely a spice that really adds amazing flavor. They were, like the ribs, moist and tender. Wow this review is sounding like fan fiction. But seriously, even the sides were delicious- every single one. I didn't order the baked beans but my friend did and they were so good I had to buy a pint to bring home. From the owner's of Tomaso's and Legends Rest, comes BBQ. I'm always skeptical of BBQ, and I didn't check for a smoker behind the building (I really hope there is one), but overall this is a great new spot. Unlike their other establishments, Paper City is huge, open and bright. It's so spacious that I can't imagine choosing tiny Legend's (directly next door) instead. And there's a lot that is very good so far: -The pulled pork is the best in the area. It's better than Wilson County and Elsmere. Salvage has such bad service that I don't remember their pork. -The prices are shockingly cheap for what you get. An enormous mound of the pork, along with two sides and pickles is $18. -The brisket on the nachos (somehow only a $2 supplement) was the best tease since the old days at PT's. I'm dying for the full brisket entree ($21). -The chili was too watered down, but still was a solid rendition. -The cocktail menu is fun and well priced ($10-$12). The beer selection is thoughtfully curated (with 22 ounce options!), and there is a full page whiskey menu. -There's arcade games and a digital jukebox, ideal for me to annoy fellow bar patrons with 80's ballads. Not everything hit the mark though... -To not only this chef, but all chefs in the world: No one likes Cheez Whiz on nachos! Nachos are meant to have melted cheese. In fact, I basically order nachos just for the cheese. Notice how when the cheese is gone, people just leave the leftover chips. So please don't replace the beauty of melted cheese with artificial chemical sludge. -The Mac and Cheese is not great. It's amazing how Mac and Cheese is often bad at BBQ restaurants, which is where people order it most. The best local Mac is at Soul Food Paradise in the Mall, of all places. Emulate them. My first visit to Paper City leaves me excited for many more. It's likely already the best bar on this Westbrook strip to casually drink and eat, and I'll be back soon for that brisket. read more

Ribs were good, brisket was ok and pulled pork seemed dry. The most disappointing thing by far was the corn bread... it tasted stale and the flavor was totally off. After reading a glowing review of their brisket burnt ends, we were anxious to try it for ourselves. We were disappointed to say the least. The portion was tiny, with huge chunks of fat. After removing the obvious fat, we were left with very little meat. I must say, what was remaining was tasty. The sauce was outstanding. I got the brisket nachos. They were cold. I get it they probably weren't cooked like normal nachos, because I'm guessing the brisket is smoked...but the chips and cheese could've been warm. They didn't have much flavor or seasoning either, amazing toppings with the corn and black beans so they definitely have the potential to be exceptional. I ordered a side of picked veggies, very delicious. My partner got a meat board with a side of collard greens and Mac and cheese. Excellent food and service and ambiance. I had the brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, and sausage. All meats were flavorful. It's probably the best BBQ I've had in Maine. My rating of 5 is actually a 4.9 only because the brisket was a tad bit overdone for my liking, but it still tasted excellent and had a nice smoke ring and flavorful bark. They had 3 different BBQ sauces, all made in-house. I tried all 3, and they all had excellent flavor. The chef came out and talked to us for a bit and was open to my feedback on the brisket, which surprised me. The sides were flavorful, and the mixed drink Oaxacam Margarita tasted delicious. They also have huge whiskey selection and had my favorite scotch Dalmore. I would compare this place to one of my favorite BBQ places in the United States called the White House Tavern in Dubois, Illinois. If you're looking for a decent BBQ place in Maine, I would recommend giving it a chance. read more

On 4/8/23,this I ordered to go 1/2 pound brisket with 2 sides, baked beans and cole slaw, and the 3 sauces. The beans were the best part of the meal. The meat was well seasoned and cooked well, but I estimate it was 20% fat. The cole slaw had to come from Hannaford or Market Basket-it was the soggy and vinegary just like at the grocery store. All 3 sauces were unremarkable. A 15% tip was automatically added onto my online order checkout. Since I was not getting service from a server, well....Because I live in Westbrook, I wanted to like the restaurant, but in my opinion the value is poor. read more
