I recently had a most wonderful dinner at Street and Co with wonderful company! Our servers were all excellent, and the food came in exactly the right amount of time. We started with burrata, a bluefish pate, and mussels for apps, and then moved right into: Bluefish tuna Lobster Fra Diavlo for two, and Roasted Branzino (which was FANTASTIC) After that, we still pursued dessert and ordered a pecan pie with in-house made ice cream and one of the most delicious rice puddings I have ever had. I'd like to give Street and Co a 4.5 as I'm not sure it deserves a full 5 but it was very very good. One of the best meals we had in Portland. We liked it more than Scales which I think might be a less popular opinion. The ambiance was very rustic and cozy. It did feel a little cramped and the first table they sat us at was in the middle of a bunch of other tables and I really don't think it would be a nice table for anyone. Thankfully they moved us to a corner/booth which was very nice of them. Even in the corner it was still a little cramped which is my reason for not giving it 5 stars. The pasta dish with lobster in a red sauce was divine. Full of other seafood in addition to the lobster like mussels and clams too. It was definitely messy but the flavor was fantastic. Tons of garlic which we love. The octopus appetizer was also delicious. Very charred which normally I wouldn't like but it worked very well with this dish. We also got hummus which was a special appetizer. It was ok- not very memorable. The desserts didn't appeal to us (maybe we were just too full). My understanding is this is a sister restaurant to scales and fore street. Street & co does not have the water views like scales but is tucked in this cute cobblestone street and you feel like you are walking into an original historic Portland building. I did a similar meal at street & co as I did scales - oysters and scallops. I enjoyed the scallops slightly better at scales but this was still a win. And the octopus! Don't be afraid of that order, it was outstanding. We also sampled desserts and I was blown away. I wish I could go back more often, another phenomenal meal in Portland. read more

We mixed up our reservations and was late getting there but they were nice enough to seat us after being 30 min late. Our server didn't introduce himself at first and was very shy and quiet. He finally opened up and was a sweet guy. We ordered the muscles which were horrible. They were mushy and the texture was so bad I couldn't eat them. My partner had the smoke salmon pate and thought it was a 3/5. He said it was decent but wouldn't order again. The Baby Gem salad was also lacking flavor. What an amazing dinner! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The space is beautiful. It's down a cobblestone alleyway, and the interior is cozy and rustic. It feels like a secret, but I know it's not a well kept one! Our server Nico (apologies if I've misspelled that!) was wonderful. He was friendly and helpful when we made our dinner choices. The other servers were also always on top of keeping our table clear and our water filled. The food was absolute perfection. We started with a salad and grilled octopus. The salad was bright and acidic which paired perfectly with the best octopus dish I've had. It was so tender and delicious, I've never had octopus that was that tender. The grilled flavor came through immediately, but never overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the octopus. For mains I had sole francaise and my husband had bone in monkfish. The sole was melt in your mouth good. It was lightly breaded and cooked in a pan with brown butter. It was so toasty and nutty and coated the green beans and simple, but perfect, red potatoes it was served with. My husband's monkfish was fresh and perfectly toothsome, served with fluffy Roman gnocchi and romesco sauce. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert because I'm sure it's incredible as well! I can't wait to return the next time we're in Portland. Just to note: this is one of the least accessibility-friendly areas of the city. The old cobblestone road that it's located on is foot traffic only. The closest approach is if you're dropped off at the end of and it you would still have a short distance to travel. There is a brick footpath on the sides of the cobblestone road that is slightly smoother, but still not ideal. Earlier in the day I was able to navigate the street okay on foot so it will depend on your capabilities. That being said, I took my motorized travel chair down there in the evening and Street and co were happy to let me fold it up and store it near the door. read more

It's adorable when you walk in. Great ambiance, with original architecture vibes. We sat at the bar, and had a couple of cocktails, which were delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the mussels and arugula salad. Omg. The mussels were incredible!!! They were so fresh, plump and the sauce was divine. It had some body, and was incredible with their fresh bread. For dinner, my hubby had the garlic shrimp linguine, and I had the sole with brown butter and haricot verts. Knowing how much I'd been looking forward to coming back, she insisted I go without her. I sat at the bar and started with my usual dry Manhattan and half a dozen oysters -- a great way to settle in. It was balanced, thoughtful cooking that let the ingredients shine. Before leaving, I put in a take-out order of the soup of the day for my partner -- a bean-based soup in a tomato-forward broth with sausage. I don't recall the exact menu description, but it was hearty, comforting, and exactly what she needed. I came on a the Friday night after Thanksgiving with my BF for oysters and a cocktail before meeting up with friends at another restaurant. The restaurant is cozy and located near the docks in the historic waterfront where cobblestone streets and narrow alleys are found. We shared a doz oysters that were expertly plated and tasty. Next we had the grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes, parsley green sauce and chickpea crisp. Our appetizers were so good we asked for a dinner menu. They were happy to accommodate and moved us to a table for dinner as they don't serve entrees in the lounge area. We split a nice bottle of wine and had the Whole Grilled Dorade over Puttanesca with Fresh Herbs. Our server gladly deboned it for us making it easy to eat. My fiancé always has a huge appetite and couldn't even finish his shrimp with tomatoes and capers...we easily could have shared it but we both ended up ordering it as an entree. Updating my review for Street and Company, I came back for a birthday dinner, and this time was worth it. We had a great time. No appetizers this time around, just dinner. We shared the Seafood Diavolo; this is the best dish ever, with a good amount of shellfish and the sauce was perfection, smoky, spicy, and a perfect amount of heat that makes you want to eat more. A truly phenomenal dish. We also tried the scallops in Pernod. It was incredible; the scallops were huge, sweet, and delicate. We had a few drinks; I was surprised that the Ketel One vodka with club and a splash of cranberry was just $10. Specialty cocktails were between $15-$17, definitely not cheap. And we finished off with espresso and panacotta; it was such a delight, and the dessert was so addicting! Service was good, busy, loud, and a fun atmosphere. The restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night. You definitely need reservations. They have a bar area where you can eat dinner and 2 dining rooms in the back. A single unisex toilet is at the bottom of the stairs. I Most of the staff were friendly with the exception of one. He never smiled, or spoke with the customers. Our waiter was friendly and as busy as they were, checked back during the meal. We started with with a thinly sliced zucchini salad. It had dressing but not a lot of flavor. Hubby has the lobster with linguini. The lobster piece he gave me had a nice smoky taste. The pasta was OK I ordered the linguini and clams. There were 12 clams and the meat was good. There was a tad too much red pepper flakes but the pasta was tasty. We were stuffed as the portions were big, so we skipped dessert. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, and we were seated at a cozy two-top with a note on the table wishing us a happy anniversary, which we really appreciated. Our appetizers were great. We had the oysters, mussels, and La Rosa Salad. All were delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Our server just didn't seem interested. From the start, it felt like we were bothering her by being there. Our entrées took a while to arrive, not a big deal on its own, but she never checked in or acknowledged the delay. Once we passed on a second round of cocktails, it felt like she mentally checked out. When the mains finally came, she never came back to ask how anything was or if we needed anything. As for the food, my husband had the hake and found it lacking in flavor. I ordered the lobster and linguini, which was fine, but just that - grilled lobster, buttered linguini, some garlic. Let me start with this and not to sound bougie... Coming from such a booty town Las Vegas, our expectations might be a little higher than the average person. That said... Our server Charlie was incredibly friendly and never let our cocktails go empty. Charlie's assistant Soren was incredibly adorable and made every recommendation that we took that turned out to be amazing. We started with the muscles... And as the one who travels the world and has had muscles everywhere I can tell you these were some of the best I've ever had. The garlic sauce was stunning and it was almost like the kitchen staff put garlic in every single individual muscle. We then went to the sole based on Soren's recommendation. I have had an amazing soul that some wonderful French restaurants not only in France but also five star restaurants in Las Vegas and this was some of the best sole I've ever had We finished with the sticky toffe dessert which was also Soren's recommendation and of course she absolutely nailed it. Every entrée Soren recommended was 100% and Charlie backed up Soren's recommendations. Again as a world traveler I have that food in so many amazing places and this was one of the best meals I've ever had right in Portland Maine. What an amazing location in an alleyway in downtown Portland. As a newer summer resident... We will definitely be back again and again. We decided to come up and enjoy the Christmas holiday which is why we were here in the colder weather and absolutely loved it. We came to Maine for a girls' trip, and this restaurant was recommended by the front desk lady at our hotel. We didn't have reservations, so we decided to come right at 5 p.m. for walk-in seating definitely the best choice, because if you arrive later without a reservation, you'll likely have to wait. Our group was the first to be seated and started off in the bar area, where we enjoyed drinks and some incredibly fresh oysters honestly, some of the best I've ever had. After our drinks, we were moved to a lovely outdoor table along the street, which had such a great atmosphere perfect for people-watching and soaking in the evening vibe. This seems to be a very popular restaurant. We got a reservation in the bar which lets you sit at a counter in bar/waitress station. I would recommend trying to get in the dining room if possible. Our waitress was very personable and did a great job. We started with some oysters that were very fresh and delicious. The portions here are very small plates. I started with a salad that barely covered the plate, but did have a good flavor. The entrees were small too. It took a very long time to get our food out of the kitchen, but the waitress did apologize and seemed slightly perturbed it was taking so long. I would try it again when in the area. read more

Had a special dinner here for a first time experience. We loved the ambiance and setup of the place, it is very good for date nights and intimate dinners. Service was friendly and upscale and they were able to place an anniversary card for us at the table which was very nice. They had a decent wine and beer selection and the menu is full of hard decisions. We ended up starting with a salad which was phenomenal and the oysters which were also very good. Their selection wasn't very big though. For the main we got the shrimp pasta and the blue fin tuna bolognese. Both of these dishes were absolutely amazing and full of flavor. Plus, the portions are huge! Finally to finish we got the chocolate tort and the sticky toffy pudding. The toffy pudding has to be one of my favorite desserts I've had in a while. It definitely gave an air of a local joint that's just the right amount of casual and classy --with really good food to boot. Probably one of the best fish dishes I ate at a restaurant in memory. No fishiness smell at all. The sword fish was basically a sea-beef: soft with some meatiness that galloped on my tongue. The sole francaise was reminiscent of my French grandmother that I never had; or a french foodie friend that I also never had. I saw a lot of couples and friends sitting at the bar and tables. I can safely say that Street & Co still holds up as one of the top Portland restaurants to this day. You already know the bread is amazing because it's Standard Baking. We started off with the Norumbega Oysters which were fresh and briney. Then we got the grilled bluefin tuna and the grilled swordfish and split them both and they were both perfectly cooked and delicious. I know everyone oohs and aahs over the lobster diavolo but the grilled fresh fish is not to be missed!
