Everytime I come to Paper Source, I spend at least 1 hour. I even got a parking ticket once because I lost track of time trying to decide between the pumpkin orange or the persimmon orange cardstock. Don't even let me get started about the frills and straight-edge cardstock in both pumpkin and persimmon. OH and the matching envelopes...Sheesh... To say I like stationary is a gross and negligent understatement. I am so not crafty. I'm one of those girls who manages to "wrap" a small box with an entire roll of floral, faded wrapping paper and half a thing of Scotch tape. Ladies, if you've lost your crafty touch, make a point to sign-up for one of Paper Source's awesome workshops and you'll be crafting in no time! My roommate and I attended their "Girls Night Out" 2 hour event where we were taught how to create 3 travel-themed crafts while enjoying tasty wine and snacks! And holy cow, what a nice spread! They had delicious gourmet cheese & crackers, veggies & dip, and mini sandwiches plus some choice red & white wine, and sparkling juices! I was super impressed. And towards the end of the evening, they won our hearts over w/ the cutest little cupcakes and homemade cookies. Mmm! Oh yeah, so about the crafts... we decorated totes by rubber-stamping & embossing them, created fold-out envelope letters w/ pockets, and collaged post-cards. All our instructors were great- they were good at keeping the relaxed vibe afloat by allowing us to take our time. You could also tell how enthused they were about the evening. Post-workshop event, my roommate and I were discussing how the $25 fee is definitely well-spent. Not only do you get to make 3 crafts and enjoy yummy snacks & drinks, but you also get 10% off everything in the store that evening, a parting boxed gift (its got quite a few goodies in it!), AND an automatic entry in their most awesome raffle ever. Because the Paper Source is located by quite a few choice stores (Shu Uemara, Kiehls, etc.), they are able to come up w/ some really cool raffle prizes. Not only is this a fantastic place to do workshops, BUT the Paper Source has always wowed me with their elegant paper selection, extensive rubber stamp & scrapbooking selection, funny books & notepads, plus a few cute knick knacks. I stopped by here not too long ago to do something I haven't done in many years. Yes - I actually bought myself a journal. I guess they say that good girls stay home and write in them, and bad girls never have the time. I consider myself to be a little of everything....So when you are at a loss to describe all of the painful expressions of saying goodbye to someone you put alot of your hope and dreams into without bursting into tears randomly while ordering at a coffeehouse you used to go to or grabbing your lunch and seeing a happy couple ca-noodling down the street, I guess it just may be the second best therapy rather than consistently doing what you always love doing - partying it up with your friends and family. So there inlies the tip for the departure and hopefully someday it will serve me well to pass along the lessons learned - so at the very least someone else can benefit. I love paper crafts stores. There's just something about the assortment and the possibilities that are there if only I would learn to be that ambitious. I regularly buy card supplies for the holidays from here. They have a pretty good idea on how much to order so that when they do run out it's just only a few days before they get more in. Unlike some places where they'll be out for weeks or something. I've never taken any of the classes that are offered by the different locations but I love that if I wanted to I could. The assortment of unique wrapping paper is the best! I've even purchased a couple of sheets of one to frame. Cheap and easy art work. Gotta love that. The one thing that I always wonder about iswhen they randomly ask you for your name when you purchase something. Do they keep track of how much a person buys? For what reason? To offer them a discount or something later? Because if that's the case then not everyone behind the counter does that and I've purchased quite a bit from here. read more

I love this store. It really makes one want to be creative. The service is EXCELLENT, especially since RK works there and he is a RockStar. I just bought the most fancy pants wrapping paper and tissue paper for packging up the scarf I hand knit my mother. The staff was super helpful in showing me where all the items I needed were. I also picked up some sewing scissors and the woman was very knowledgeable about the many uses I could find for them. I write a lot of letters too - mostly to my Grandma and Thank you notes to my fabulous friends. They have some great designed stuff as well as a ton of plain colored paper and envelopes for mixing and matching. This is a great place if you want to create your own party invitations too - the staff will walk you through how to do it. They have a great selection of rubber stamps and colored ink as well as any colored pen you want. My favorite is the wicked candy selection near the register - where else can you get booger candy and Grill candy (yes, you too can be a rap star for $3.95). I would probably go into a deep depression without this store. I want to try out one of their pop-up book seminars. That would be cool. read more

I love going here any time but especially, when I'm stressed. Simply stepping in the store gets the creative juices flowing. Flax has a larger selection of paper stock but this store is better if you have a specific project (paper only) in mind as they present a well-edited selection of tools and their papers, stickers, etc. can easily be mixed and matched as they are similar weights and hues. I haven't attended one of their classes but always enjoy bandying ideas around with the staff. read more

I love Paper Source for things from knick knacks, gifts (for babies, kids, or adults), crafting (awesome selection of stamps and embossing powders, gorgeous ribbon in all widths, texture, and colors), party planning (I love using the handmade paper with raw edges as table runners or gift wrap), charming and clever greeting cards, and of course the paper selection in the back to make your own personalized invitations/announcements. My sister makes wonderful cards and it's really fun to see her put them together from every detail down to the address labels in all different shapes. This locale is a lot smaller than the one on Chestnut, but it is very charming thanks to the age of the building (and the loose tiles when you walk in)! Despite its small location, everything is organized very well so that their stock is actually pretty good. Staff is very friendly, nice, and helpful! If you call to have them hold something, they hold it till the next closing day (rather than until closing that night). read more

So I just might be the least "crafty" kid around; the attention-to-detail region of my brain has apparently been chipped away over the years with cheap beer and even cheaper vodka. But a girl can appreciate from the sidelines, right? No, really. Am I right? I'm pretty sure I am (always right), so walking into ye olde Paper Source is always a pleasant surprise. I mean, it helps that the best roommate EVER, Liz G., slings paper here but that's beside the point. Who doesn't like stunning wrapping paper sold by the sheet for an absolutely outlandish price, but it's just so goddamn pretty that even my Edward Scissorhands just HAVE to have it? And the rubber stamps are ridiculous; I have a plate of french fries stamp as well as a fortune cookie stamp, both procured from this gem of a store. They look fabulous when stamped on either my chartreuse or vermilion (see, I know my colors real good) Paper Source stationary set with matching envelopes; so what if the actual end product is smudged and smeared with ink and my handwriting is (to say the least) absolutely illegible? It's the motherfucking thought that counts! I also like helping with inventory here because a. they pay me, b. the people are utterly un-pretentious and c. they hook up the snacks! And pizza! And really, what's better than counting pretty greeting cards, marvelous stacks of paper or cheeky books at 11pm while eating? Ok, don't answer that. But do go there, go there now! read more

I am a totally crafty chic and totally see this an outlet for my creative energy. They sell just about every type of paper product, (well probably notl toilet paper) and the best part is that their patterns fit whatever style you are drawn to. This is a great place to venture to add some flair to the boring beige and off white that everything comes in. From what I understand, the website offers workshops that are pretty cool. This place is amazing! I can spend hours just wandering around browsing their books, cards and paper or chatting with the knowledgeable, friendly but not pushy staff. You can ask for help on current projects, or for ideas and they never give you a high-pressure sales pitch. Having said that it can be expensive - I don't think I've ever walked out of there without being $30 poorer with more beautiful items to add to my massive box of card-making materials tip: Check out their do-it-yourself stamp kits - they're 50% less than the pre-made stamp sets. read more

Super cute cards. They're not inexpensive by any means, but they're designs you won't find elsewhere. I went in looking for cards for all the events coming up in the next month and walked out with the four I needed. However, in the process, I had to restrain myself from picking up other cards that were just perfect for other birthdays or events way later in the year. They have a cute selection of unique and fun gifts, lots of wrapping paper, and specialize in custom items (think invitations). It's high end, but I think it's worth it to complete the effect of the amount of thought I plan on putting into writing inside the card. Their staff is also very friendly. I've walked by this place for years and wondered what it was like, but never made it in. When I needed an appointment book (in February no less) I thought I was doomed to buy some crappy one at Walgreens. Then I remembered Paper Source. The only appointment book they had left was a kit. The assistant manager was terrific and put the kit together (gluing, binding, measuring, cutting...all the things I'm bad at) for me. The appointment book looks great! Great staff, too, two of them spent almost an hour talking about day-of-the-dead themed weddings with me and it was like I had just found two crafty soulmates. I never NEED anything from here, but for some strange reason, I always walk out the door with about $30 worth of stuff. I'm big on writing thank you notes....or notes in general to my parents and other friends. I think getting fun mail is about one of the coolest things ever, and I've always liked it. It just brightens your day to know that someone was thinking of you and wanted to commemorate that with a piece of mail that cost them $0.42. That being said, the Paper Source has the best paper stuff ever. This is a brilliantly cute store, I love it! I came in looking for some stickers (which the didn't have) but I stayed to look at all the interesting items they did have! There are so many cute little things, books, journals, cooking tools, and of course PAPER! The paper is beautiful. This place is so inspiring and fun! I love to go to Paper Source when I am planning a party - it has inspiring invitation ideas, favor ideas, and many other detail oriented things that allow you to create the perfect look. They have great cards here that are originial, beautiful (many great letter press ones) and much cheaper than Papyrus up the street. They also do gorgeous gift wrapping. Once I was desperate to have a gift wrapped, and although Paper Source did it quickly (and for $9), it really looked like a work of art. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I have mixed feelings about this store. I'm always drawn in by all the pretty stuff they have hanging in the windows and on the shelves. Then I get inspired by the sample projects they have on display only to have my hopes of being the next Martha dashed by the harsh reality that I don't have a creative bone in my body and when it comes to arts and crafts I always end up with more mess on the table and myself than on the actual project. I love this store. This store is inspirations galore. I browse through scrap paper patterns, offset print cards, cool gadgets, books and the environment is more than appropriate. This is far from the Michael's environment and far more appealing than PaperZone. This store has tons of character and I can chill in here for hours. I get inspired to play with different patterns or create my own patterns from the hundreds of wrap paper. I collect single sheet scraps of paper so I can scan them and incorporate them in designs as textures and whatnot. I have to carry around my sketchpad with me when I am in here because I am hit with a train of ideas. I can spend hours in here. My method is browsing Paper Source for an hour or two and crossing the street to The Grove to order myself a drink and sketch out as many ideas as I can. This definitely inspired my packaging product in one of my design classes. read more

I think I'm in love...as long as my credit card doesn't go out, the possibilities are endless here! I had to get gift wrap and I wanted something original. When I walked into paper sources there was more than enough to choose from- I picked two papers (one was a japanese tattoo-style goldfish, and the other to offset it was an orange paper with white polka dots) they wrapped it for me and picked out my ribbon...LOOKED AMAZING!!! They also have lots of custom invitations, toys, stamps, art materials and cards...I can't wait to go back and play more in that store! read more

The ladies at this store in particular are super nice and friendly. Whether you have questions about the drying time of ink stamp pads, width of ribbon, or paper projects, they are incredibly kind and helpful. (Even when I bumped into the kiosk and knocked a bunch of stuff over). The stamp collection is by far my current obsession and they have a great selection. You can even take one of their workshops to carve your own! Rubber stamps are not cheap though, so I have to remind myself to take it SLOW. The single sheets of paper are also gorgeous, I've been using those to make mini-books and was astounded at their collection. They also have a great sale section in the back which is 50% off. I took the holiday card making class here last week with a friend and I'd highly recommend it! The class was held in the small workshop in the back that holds 6-7 people. They walked us through each step and taught us how to use various equipment and we ended up with four very high quality cards. I believe we paid $30 for the two hour class which included all of the supplies which I thought was worthwhile since four nice cards would end up costing the same amount. And at the end of class they give you a 10% discount voucher, but there was no pressure to purchase anything. read more

I try to stock my work space with as much stuff as I can find from here just to have a bit of pizzazz in my cube since nothing says productive office worker like cheerfull paper and great looking cards lining your desk. So many delicous papers! I always love coming in here, even if it's just to get inspired. I shopped here for wedding invitation, and while the choices were beautiful and the prices were reasonable for letterpress, I couldn't really justify spending so much money on something that would end up in the trash or underneath a car seat. I did, however, purchase juicy-colored papers for signs and such, as well as an embosser with custom plates (one with our address, one with an "asterisk" that adorned our invites). I was very happy with the service I received when I placed the custom order., and they came in right on time! read more
