A dental assistant flossed a few of my teeth, did a quick polishing, and then the dentist, Michael Slater, came into the room to finish the procedure. In all previous cleanings/checks I have had by other dental offices, a dental hygienist has done the cleaning, polishing, checking the teeth, etc., before the dentist came in to do a thorough check of each tooth. However, at this visit, the sulcus depths around the teeth weren't checked and my teeth weren't scaled by anyone--except for the lingual surfaces of my mandibular anterior teeth, which were done by the dentist. Flossing wasn't done between each tooth after polishing. The whole process seemed out of order and the result an incomplete exam. I was disappointed in the services I received, and will look for another dental office where the cleaning/exam is done by both an effective dental hygienist and dentist.

At my follow up cleaning in September, I confronted him directly about the ongoing billing issues and the dismissive treatment I'd been getting. He told me, "We will get this taken care of," and took every document I brought - the estimate, the bills, phone logs - everything. I finally thought someone was taking this seriously. Instead, nothing changed. A few weeks later, I received the exact same $2,500 bill with no explanation, no update, nothing. When I called again, a staff member offered a payment plan but then told me the amount I could actually afford was not accepted by the doctor - he needed double the monthly payment. When I asked for time to figure things out, communication suddenly stopped. My calls were not returned, my messages were ignored, and even my email received no response. I was calling weekly with no progress. Today, after months of trying to resolve this with the office directly, I found out they sent my bill to collections without notifying me. After everything, this was how they chose to handle it. I have never dealt with such poor communication, lack of follow- through, and disregard for patient's concerns. Dr. Dawson and his assistant were excellent communicators and eased my high anxiety through constant reassurances and I must tell you I was so happy and so impressed during the whole process of removing 10 teeth! I was awake during the whole time. It was close to 4 hours of surgery, and it was awesome! The care during the surgery was so wonderful and I was cool as a cucumber. The gas used and local shots were administered with my relaxation and pain level in check. I go back in for a bridge and a couple tooth inserts. I'll follow up with the next visit. It took about a month before I got a letter from my insurance company telling me what they would pay. I called the dental office and made a 20 percent down payment before setting up the appointment. On the day of the procedure, I showed up on time after preparing by following the printed instructions I had been given earlier. Someone called me a couple of days before my appointment to make sure I understood. Dental procedures can be scary and produce great anxiety, but this one did not. The staff and Dr.O were so calm and reassuring, my procedure was done before I realized it. Having IV sedation helped that along, of course! Dr. Carter and his staff made me feel comfortable and walked me through each step of my care. I was in a good deal of pain when I first saw him. He was able to identify the issue and was able to fix the problem. In all my years of going to a dentist, I would dread the pain from the numbing injection. Dr. Carter has a wonderful method when he gives a shot. I barely feel anything! Services says a lot about this group. I went in for what I thought was going to be a pretty invasive procedure and was happy to find out that a minor correction had my problem solved. I love the fact that , options were considered and very extensive evaluation's completed. All equipment is state of the art for 3-D tooth x-rays. And the office is immaculate and personnel are courteous, professional, caring, and very knowledgeable. I have been in to this office before and received outstanding care on that occasion as well. Highly recommend this office should you have any endodontic needs.

I was referred to Midwest Endodontics for retreatment of a root canal that was approximately 15…read moreyears old and had developed an infection. Because my appointment was scheduled months in advance, I was informed that Midwest Endodontics would verify my insurance coverage and expected out-of-pocket cost. I was told they had checked my insurance, that the procedure was covered, and that my portion would be approximately $600-$700. My appointment later had to be rescheduled, so nearly six months passed before I actually had the procedure done. During that time, I contacted the office again, more than once, specifically to verify the cost. Immediately before the procedure, I was again told that my insurance would be paying approximately $900 and that my portion was around $600. Based on that information, I put my portion on CareCredit and proceeded with the treatment. About 4-5 weeks later, I received another bill for approximately $600. When I called, I was told this was in addition to what I had already paid and that my insurance had actually paid only about $235. I was then told that Midwest Endodontics was OUT OF NETWORK. This was completely different from what I had been told repeatedly before treatment. When I questioned it, I was told that the amounts were only estimates and that I had signed paperwork acknowledging that. I was also told perhaps there had not been enough time between the estimate and the procedure to verify everything, which makes absolutely no sense considering my procedure had been rescheduled for approximately six months later and I had personally contacted the office multiple times to reconfirm the cost. I then contacted my insurance company directly. They confirmed that Midwest Endodontics is out of network and told me that the amount charged for my procedure was substantially higher than what other providers in the area typically charge for the same service. I understand that insurance estimates are not guarantees and that benefits can change. What I do NOT find acceptable is repeatedly asking a provider to verify coverage and cost, being told multiple times that they are in network and that my responsibility will be around $600, paying that amount based on those representations, and then being billed approximately another $600 after the procedure because they were actually out of network. Had I been given accurate information beforehand, I could have made an informed decision. I could have financed the full amount, found an in-network endodontist, or chosen to have the tooth extracted instead. I was denied the opportunity to make that decision because the financial information I was given before treatment was wildly inaccurate. The dental treatment itself is not the reason for this review. My issue is entirely with the insurance verification, cost estimate, and billing practices. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering treatment here contact their insurance company themselves, confirm whether Midwest Endodontics is actually in network, obtain the insurer's estimate of the allowed amount, and get everything from Midwest Endodontics in writing before agreeing to treatment.
