I'm in love with the food! One of the best fried wings I've ever eaten. The red beans and rice and fried catfish couldn't have been better prepared. The layout and ambiance of the dining room is a little too elaborate and doesn't quite scream Soul Food, but who cares.... A little less ballroom and a lot more Teddy's Juke Joint motif would bring it all together. A Pappa's location on Magazine in Nola would be a gold mine. read more

I met the owner and he said he's been in business 17 years in this location. Don't let the outside fool you, the food is great! We ordered 3 dinners :2 smothered pork chops, mustard greens with red beans and rice and a fried pork chop dinner with beans and rice and greens and corn bread- All was tender and it the spot. My daughter came in and said the service young lady working there seemed unfriendly but she was very nice to me. I was talking to her about Yelp and their reviews. There are daily specials and other items offered all the time.. I've never had a bad experience. This place gets extremely busy during the wk during lunch hours so IF you can get them to pick up the phone call your order in. Got lunch to go here today, walked in and there wasn't any employees, we waited a couple minutes and a lady came out of the back, we start to place our to go order and she acts like she couldn't care less, very rude but we payed and waited anyways, so food comes out, she gives my boyfriend a hot canned drink when he paid for a large but oh well. We both got the Okra tomatoes and shrimp dish it was really good! The sides I got, which were greens & candied yams, both tasted like it was from a can but still can't complain, my boyfriend got potato salad he said was good. Late post; the stuffing was the best part of the meal. Not to take away from the pork chops and gravy I ordered, which were good. However, the stuffing was awesome, moist, and packed with flavor. Good lunch today at Pappas! The home style soul food is stellar, but service needs a bit of massaging. Let's start with the good. Upon entry, we were greeted with a smile and provided with today's lunch specials. I decided to go with the smothered pork chops over rice , mustard greens and potato salad. They were out of the green beans and cabbage. My hubby chose red beans and rice with fried chicken wings. Both were served with cornbread muffins. My pork chop was seasoned perfectly and very tender. The gravy was delicious and both the greens and potato salad were prepared very well. My husband loved his red beans and we both agreed the wings were very good as well. On to where improvement is needed. Okay, I get that there is a short wait - understandable, but there is a disconnect between ordering, sitting and getting drinks and orders. Unfortunately we didn't receive our drinks until after we begin eating. Several times (at least 4) we were asked what we ordered. The place is not that big, so I have no idea why after ordering we were just not handed our drinks or brought them right away. The couple next to us were a bit irritated as the wife received her food and began eating and after a significant wait, the husbands food came out. The wife was practically finished. I'm sure if she would have waited, her food would definitely have been cold. Otherwise, good visit. Very friendly and food is very good. I'm sure we will return. read more

The BEST in town!!! The service is always perfect for me and my good buddy. We eat at Pappa's once to twice a week. This place is great, they always have the best food. I have yet to find anything bad there. My friend and I try to order something different everytime, and it is all GOOD! I just wish they had later hours, but I will take what I can get. I give this place no stars. I'm really not the type of person who likes to talk bad about a restaurant or to even bother writing reviews but I had to today. When my fiancé and I left this restaurant we were not happy. We ordered our food with the cashier when we walked in, then we took a seat. She gave us our tea (brisk tea with so much sugar) 30 minutes after sitting down. We seriously waited about 40 minutes for our food and they were not busy. There was probably 4 tables with customers and that includes our table. I ordered the red beans and rice and wings since they were out of pork chops. The wings were good and the corn bread dressing was too. The mashed potatoes tasted from a box and the beans tasted canned. I did not finish my food and my fiancé did eat all of his catfish but said it was not worth it. We do not recommend this place. read more

Had a bug in my food and all i wanted was a refund and the lady insisted that the bug flew in my food when i opened it. When i opened it i saw something moving , the top wasn't even off all the way when i noticed it. I just wanted a refund and for her to hound me this was unnecessary . I visited Pappas on Friday May 11 for the first time and the experience was horrible. 1. Parking is horrible, drive around the backside of the restaurant and you see at least 10 broken down vehicles taking up parking spaces ( front parking has about 6 Spaces . 2. Ordered red beans, rice and chicken wings, 15 mins after being seated we were told that they ran out of beans (poor Communication between kitchen and front desk staff). 3. Went to the restroom ( disaster waiting to happen) non of the electrical outlets had covers, could have been shocked while turning the light switch on. 4. Since I couldn't get red beans, I settled for rice and gravy, which had NO season (tasted like water). My wife asked for salt and was told that they had NO salt shakers "really"??? DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, my wife and I will NOT be returning!!! read more

Today was my first day going. walked in the atmosphere did not feel clean. The food was horrible the red beans barely had sausage maybe three at the most. It looked as if it was smashed out the cane and didn't look or taste pleasant. The fried chicken was not crispy at all no flavor. The cornbread taste like cake. Lord the yams was nasty so light in color couldn't have been cooked correctly. I did not finish my food at all ! Never Again ! WASTE OF MY DAMN MONEY!!!!!!!!! read more
