After searching for help in the planning and planting of our front yard I found Paradise Farm. Celeste was very knowledgeable and came to our house to measure and find out what we had in mind for the yard We then met at the nursery. She gave us a preview of the plants and layout she proposed for our low maintenance yard. The plants she chose coordinated with the style and color of our house. She was also helpful in recommending a gardener and even placed the plants in the yard before they were planted. We are very happy with our beautiful new front yard. I had an interesting interaction at this nursery last weekend. My gardener was working at my home, and I immediately needed some decorative plants. I went to Paradise Farm as it is close to my house, and we always used them as Doug Knapp. Unfortunately, this was a mistake. As I walked in, I noticed a beautiful plant with a "sold sign" on it. And while I understand the meaning of sold, I always ask just in case. An employee told me that the owners wanted to plant, and would not be willing to sell it to a customer. I was told that it was $95.00. I told the employee I'd be happy to pay that amount, and that she could check again with the owner. She returned and told me they would not sell this plant but could order one. She also told me that maybe if I "begged," they would let me buy it. Well, I don't beg for anything. And then I started looking around again and noticed that the plants throughout the nursery looked sickly and moth-eaten. I couldn't see any plant that equaled the one I was willing to purchase so I left. This incident begs several questions: Isn't the customer always right? Doesn't it make sense that a merchant would sacrifice their own selfish needs for the sake of their patrons? Are they taking all of the nicer plants, and leaving the second-rate merchandise for their customers? I have no answers, but this experience led me to one conclusion: Neither my wife nor I will ever return to Paradise Farm. I will never recommend Paradise Farm to anyone. And even if I have to drive further to get what I want, I will only shop at nurseries that value their customer's needs. read more

Plants are some of the healthiest I have ever seen. This is due to the passion of the owners and workers. Not only do the plants look amazing and healthy but also a wealth of knowledge from the owners. They will make sure that no matter your experience with plants that they set you up for success. I definitely found my nursery that I will be going to for all my gardening needs. They also have an amazing assortment of hard to find varieties of fruit trees. I went in to look for some plants, and they were very friendly and helpful and gave all kinds of great advice. They were very knowledgeable. Their prices were also very reasonable. Beautiful nursery, with quality plants at reasonable prices. I bought a tree there and by May it hadn't taken well after planting. I was at my wits end trying to figure out my (3rd) landscaping plan - armed with a list of "sure to be great" new plants I met Celeste who quickly explained why those choices would not work and how she could put something together that would be gorgeous and happy - she offered her design service for free as part of the purchase price of plants. I spent two hours with this garden genie this morning as we placed the beautifully curated plants - textures, colors, heights - and she even taught me how to clip my dozen Iceburg Roses for ultimate success! I am thrilled. I have learned an amazing amount of knowledge about how to take care of my plants, my dirt and pests. Janna at Knapp Nursery is a life saver! Last minute I called her in a panic to see if she had two fruit trees I could purchase as decor for my wedding. Not only did she respond promptly, she sent me a variety of options with photos! I asked her to please pick a lemon and lime tree with fruit on them to be delivered right to the wedding venue on the day before the wedding. The trees delivered were beautiful and full of fruit. And they were the least expensive we found in the area! AND the only company I could get to deliver on such short notice to a remote destination (for only $50!). Today, we met Matt at Knapp nursery. While we had been there many times before, this was the friendliest, and kindest person we had seen at this nursery. While we always love this place for its excellent plant, flower, and tree selection at reasonable pricing, at times, a very unfriendly young woman is at the counter, which sometimes makes us think twice of going there. Matt explained to us what to do with a matilaja poppy plant, was extremely knowledgeable, and he was a pleasure to deal with. Apparently, he is the son of the owners. Knapp Nursery is a little hidden gem in Goleta, tucked away in a neighborhood between Fairview and Glen Annie, off Cathedral Oaks. We found them quite by accident, while shopping online for hedge ideas. Owned and operated by a delightful couple for 30 years, they are a very knowledgeable and helpful, ask the right questions, and will give you the honest pros and cons of each specimen you are considering. Had a bit of an emergency because we bought some protea plants a few weeks ago and we almost lost two from lack of water. I thought I had understood the watering was once a week but it turns out when the plants are in the buckets they get hot and need more water. The person who answered was not only knowledgeable but very friendly and helpful. She saved my plants. read more

I came here with an unusual looking pot/vase (tall with long holes on the sides) that I wanted to put a plant in and keep indoors. When I asked the lady who worked here about it, she had a creative suggestion about lining the inside of the pot with moss, pouring in some potting soil, and then having the plants poke out through the holes. She suggested that probably my best bet was to go to Home Depot because they have a good selection of indoor plants. I really appreciated the fact that her goal was simply to figure out a good solution for me and my strange pot, rather than to try to sell me something that didn't quite work, or to dismiss my question. So for that, I'm giving The Knapp nursery 5 stars. Also, their selection looked nice too -- just mostly outdoor plants. :-) read more

I stopped by this weekend in search of a new blueberry bush, and they have an excellent selection! There's multiple varieties kept in pots that all look quite healthy. Walking around, this looks like a great nursery to purchase fruit trees, vines, landscape plants, and succulents. In the winter, they have a nice variety of bareroot berry plants and asparagus, all at great prices! I was really impressed with how organized the nursery is and how all of the plants appeared well-maintained. The folks working there were very outgoing and helpful, as well. read more

Knapp Nursery is a wonderful, serene place with an excellent selection of all kinds of plants. I've enjoyed giving them my business over the years. I was that kid who loved watching my dad mow the lawn and tend to the garden, and awaited the moment where I'd be old enough to do so on my own. Trips to the nursery were FUN for me, especially because we'd usually frequent Knapp. To this day, I continue to patronize them - though my yard may only be apartment-sized. :) I've found that much of the staff has remained in place for several years, and I know I can always go to them for any sort of plant-related question I may have. Every staff member there has always seemed to be friendly and welcoming to me. Additionally, their huge array of plants and trees always seem to appear healthy and vibrant. It's a peaceful experience walking up and down the numerous aisles while planning a purchase. One day, I will own a home in the Santa Barbara area. When that day comes, I wholeheartedly plan on utilizing Knapp Nursery for my landscaping needs. For now, I will continue to swing by for my smaller purchases. Keep up the great work, guys! read more

We visited Knapp recently and had the best experience! The person who helped us was incredibly knowledgable and friendly. She walked the nursery with us, answered all of our questions and offered suggestions when asked. She and another employee helped us load our truck. The prices seem to be on par with OSH and Home Depot and a bit less than our other local nurseries. I will return again and again to Knapp...a great environment with wonderful customer service! read more

Over the years this place has become less and less consumer friendly. Their prices are middling below some competitors but the attitude of some of the changing staff is strange at best. Often there is no one around to serve. For example I bought a bare root tree recently and asked for it to be packaged in some of the material they keep them in until I could plant it. Refused.--"we use that." Yet the salesperson insisted I get it in the ground asap to protect it from drying out. read more
