7 Day is still our fave for its great customer service, outstanding plant & fruit tree selection, and a fine selection of fountains and water-features. 7 Day is one of my "Go To's" for special gardening tools. In past years they were the only source for the "Root Slayer" (serrated edges shovel) & the dandelion-weeder with curved metal pry bar. Their Hori Hori and Daiso Japanese wooden Sawyer blades make for easier hand-weeding in the garden. Parking lot is a challenge. But, just go park down the ramp in the nearly empty lot across from Cox communications if you aren't loading big bags or heavy pottery. read more

I bought a plastic watering can and a small bag of cactus mix here on 8-3-26. It came to $74. The receipt did not list the items I bought or the price for each, so I found what seemed to be a low tech price sticker on the can for $60, which seemed like a lot for a plastic watering can. There are multiple power tools at Home Depot right now, for example, for less than $60. I returned on 8-7 to the store with the unopened can in its original packaging and the receipt and asked to return it. The staff said I could only get store credit b/c I did not return it within 24 hrs. I said a refund was needed rather than a credit. She excused herself, left with the receipt, and returned saying a 20% restocking fee would apply instead. Then she tried to KEEP my original receipt. I told her she could make a copy of the receipt but that I wanted it back and that receipts absolutely belong to the customer under the law. After some pushback she gave the receipt back to me. I do not think this store understands fundamental consumer protection procedures under CA or federal law. read more

Very negative experience. I bought a gardenia whose blooms turned yellow and dropped before opening. Woody, pruned incorrectly. I should have noticed more before I bought it. But I tried to call to get help for it. No one returned my message. When I went back after 2weeks all the manager could say was it needs water. I had watered it!!! He just kept repeating that. I think he doesn't know what he's doing, is defensive. I will never go back there. read more

I felt comfortable getting this plant even thought I'm notorious for killing plants, even succulents haha. I love the layout. It's peaceful and there's a lot to see you just have to dig around sometimes. Decent prices I think, but I don't know what the prices of plants run so... I guess they're fine. I came across 7 Day Nursery one day in the middle of my run. I had recently started getting more into gardening and pursuing the educational side of things so I decided to cruise in and see what they had to offer. Let's just say my run was cut short that day and I have been back about 50 times since. For a small, parking lot nursery 7 Day really holds a nice variety of stock. My biggest interests or the things I search for most in a nursery is affordable soil, a wide variety of tall house plants, hanging indoor plants, colorful, budding succulents, air plants, and genuine, affordable pottery. I would have to say 7 Day has all those things but the affordable aspect could use a little work. Upon arrival you can park in their tiny little lot on the side or use any spaces in the massive Gelson's shopping center lot. There is a front entrance from State St and a side entrance to the left if you are facing the front and to the right if you are coming from the back lot. Parking is never an issue! From the front, all the succulents and cacti are in the back left. The hanging indoor plants and tall house plants are inside the back room in the center. The sale is the weird little nook to the very right of the nursery (which usually just consists of massive terra cota pots). And the nice pottery options are either next to the succulents or in the back of the center back room. The people working here are very kind and helpful. They will offer to clean things up for you, patch holes in pots, wrap things if it's a gift or breakable item, and help you find things to match each other if you're not the best natural home decorator. The man with the dreadlocks and the kind older woman, specifically are the most helpful! They say they get in new stock about once a week or so, so I tend to stop by about once every 2 weeks. I would recommend definitely checking this place out if you haven't already, especially if you are into varieties of small succulents, Egyptian pottery, and/or indoor plants. read more

#1: Everything in this store is over priced! You would think you are getting Organic at this rate, but nope-all conventional. #2: All plants I bought from here died with in one week or several months later! I thought it was a joke because I planted the Avocado tree and it died within one week, so I figured that was the horrible joke played on us and the reason they call themselves 7 day nursery-because their plants do not last longer than a week! When I called them to discuss, they said to bring it in and they would do an exchange. However, I live in Los Angeles and it took me a while to find the time to dig up the dead tree and drive all the way to Santa Barbara just to bring them the dead carcus. When I got there and showed them, they said they do not offer refunds of any kind. #3: All the other plants I got from there infected my regular garden with an infestation of mold/fungus! I have been growing 80% of my food at my home here for 17 years, until I brought plants home from this nursery-where the infectious soil infected my plants and killed off over half my garden!!! I tried natural remedies and them heavy chemicals, but to no avail! Do not re-use the soil from their dead plants as it is INFECTED!! #4: The only reason I even went to this place was by a friends recommendation after he bought thousands of dollars of plants for his new place from 7Day. He ended up bringing them all to my office to plant and within months they are now all dead and my other plants now have this white mold/fungus growing everywhere! I highly recommend that you DO NOT BUY from them. You'd be better off buying from the 99Cent store rescuing plants instead of destroying your own food source you have taken years to build! I am extremely dissatisfied with their plants, their customer service, lies, and bad attitude. It's not OK to tell your customers one thing on the phone and then when you see them in person the complete opposite! If they would have told me in the first place I wouldn't have taken the extra 6 hours to dig up the dead tree, drive to and from Santa Barbara wasting gas and taxing the environment just to be told in person they do not do exchanges! I had been looking for a Monstera Deliciosa, and I've also driven pass this place multiple times and never thought to go in! They had exactly what I wanted - happened to be the last one left. I originally went in just to buy some potting soil, but after seeing their amazing selection of indoor houseplants... I had to make a purchase. The employee who helped me was so kind and helpful. I was driving through Santa Barbara and decided to stop by this nursery to pick up a new plant for my home. Unfortunately the customer service was so awful I couldn't in good conscience give them a dime. None of the 5 or so people working there said a word to us for the 40 minutes we were there, but were quick to greet and help the older white people wandering around near us. In fact, I was clearly looking at a plant and considering purchasing it and an employee literally took it away at the request of another customer who wound up buying it. The employee didn't say a word, just took it and sold it to someone else! I found other plants I liked but considering how rude they were (ignoring us, taking the plant, and overall hostility) I decided to get back on the road plantless. These people could use a lesson in "diversity" and I'm not talking about plants. read more

7 Day Nursery is beautifully laid out with a variety of lush, robust plants - vines, shrubs, fruit trees - you name it, 7 Day sells it. They also have an ample selection of luxury ceramic planters, expensive enough to take a round trip flight to Europe or Southeast Asia, but, lovely all the same. You can't miss it perched on the corner of the busy intersection at State St and Los Positas with its bountiful trees and elegantly, manicured shrubs. What really sets 7 Day Nursery apart for me is the exceptional level of customer service by its staff, and the knowledge and passion they seem to have for horticulture. Some nurseries or hardware stores seem to employee people who are there to earn a buck but have not been properly educated about the products. That is not the case with 7 Day Nursery. When you ask questions, they give thoughtful, intelligent answers. It feels as though I am speaking with an expert or authority on horticulture. On my most recent visit, Ryan was a wealth of knowledge and eager to help me find the perfect plants for a DIY landscaping project at my home. He was delightful to work with and I'd go back just to interact with him for future plant purchases. I've had similar experiences with other staff at 7 Day Nursery in the past too. I love that they'll pot plants for you for a nominal fee. It's so convenient when you're in a hurry. I find the plants themselves to competitive and reasonable. Planters are a little on the pricey side but that seems to be an industry standard. I think I'll have to take up a pottery class and create my own one day! This is a super cute nursery, and I hope that some day they have room to expand to their full potential. For now, everything is a bit cramped. However, it is cramped with beautiful plants, pottery, and gardening supplies. There is not a clear cut path through the nursery and the organization is minimal, which gives you the sense of walking through a wild garden crossed with a thrift shop. Scavenging for the best deal/plant feels like an adventure! I chose a small lime tree, a tomato plant, and a mint from amongst the plethora of vegetation. I'd never grown citrus before, and the staff was super friendly and willing to teach me everything there was to know, including a pruning demonstration. Today I was looking for a specific succulent at Trader Joe's, which they did not have. I was heading back home and I remembered 7 day nursery, I have always seen it sitting on the corner, but have never stopped in. I thought I'd check it out. I was so surprised! The inside has such a variety of plants, flowers, succulents, knick knacks, seeds, etc! I right away asked for help and the fellow was more than helpful, showed me exactly what I needed, gave me a tiny bit of starter soil. I was so happy. My purchase was less than $5, and I think the cashier would have preferred cash, but was more than cordial finishing my transaction with my debit card. Eh... This place isn't so bad. Its a small quaint little nursery on State Street in Santa Barbara. Yes.. its small.. but has lots of little nooks and crannies to explore and peruse. They also have a decent selection of plants, flowers and garden food and tools for their size. Come on! The place is located in the parking lot of a Gelson's! They only have so much space to work with. My wife found a couple of unusual plant finds here as well as some eco-friendly pots. Solid 3 stars. Could be better - but also could be alot worse. I will always have this nursery close to my heart. I used to work a few blocks from this place. One day, looking for lunch outside the office, I found it... And, instead of lunch, I got plants! The people who work here are very knowledgable about all the goods and bads of caring for your lovely plants, they have incredible landscape ideas and, sometimes, some rarities (succulents gallore) are available. I've been a loyal customer to this place for over 10 years. But it's all been downhill the last few months. I bought a couple of plants and a small tree and all three died within six months. I went in and talk to the manager Billy and he basically gave me this passive aggressive response saying that I must have been responsible for their deaths. Maybe he didn't realize who I was a landscape engineer with a passion and significant experience in all things gardening. After he kind of dismissed me, I asked my husband to join me and we both talked to him and it was even worse. This is literally over maybe $400 dollars worth of purchases. Having spent well over $12,000 in recent years, I was shocked that he would not take care of us. I have found a new nursery and hope 7 day nursery can turn things around because the way they do things now is misleading. read more

I visited this nursery while on vacation over the summer and I must say as a hobbyist of orchids and succulents, that this place is awesome. The overall feel of this place makes you want to stay and look around for a long time. There is a good selection of drought tolerant plants, air plants, orchids & pottery. I was here with my family and the most impressive area for me was the air plants and the wall of wood mounted Laelia orchids. My son was intrigued by the air plants and wanted to know more about them. We found Joe close by talking to another customer and waited to talk to him. Joe gave a very detailed talk about air plants - the many varieties available, where they came from, how to care for them and the many ways on how you can display them. At the end, each of my kids ended up getting an air plant, along with some metal displays for the air plants that you can screw onto a wall. I must say, that I have not met too many nursery employees who are as passionate about their work as Joe is and I have visited a few dozen. He's a good guy and makes sure you take a home a plant that will thrive in your growing environment. Overall, this place can serve as an escape of everyday stress. The employees are nice and attentive. Selection is great. I plan to make this a regular visit every time I am in Santa Barbara! read more

The other evening my fiancee and I went to another popular Christmas tree lot, and were left with about 2 decent choices that I figured I'd have to settle on. After a rude interaction with a worker, we decided to leave. Disappointed and driving home, we spotted 7 Day Nursery and I had only heard great things about them. Surprisingly enough they were still open even though we arrived around 8! They had an amazing supply of BEAUTIFUL Christmas trees and wreaths! The man and woman working that evening were so kind and thoughtful, I'm sure they were trying to close and go home, but they were so wonderful and kind, allowing us to look all around, and eventually helping secure our tree to my teeny car. Their prices were so reasonable and worthy of the charge. From now on 7 Day Nursery is my go to for Christmas trees and I'm telling all of my friends to come here! read more

My friend and I spend a lot of time gardening, spend a lot of time in nurseries, and know what to look for and feel we know what should be paid for it, as we both have also worked in a nursery. This layout is a little odd, yet it's functional. It seemed the real estate was portioned by vendor. And then the checkout was a circular building in the middle of the forest. A lot of the cacti and succulents, native plants, bedding and landscape plants, and some of the pottery were priced competitively with their corporate big box counterparts and the majority were of much better quality. However, that cannot be said with the overinflated price tags of house plant land and some of those poor things needed some water or they were so root bound from hanging out so long that they were begging to be reduced in price so that someone would take them home and repot them into something bigger. I only saw one employee working, first I saw him outside unloading pallets of freight, then he went into the cashier circle to wait on me. read more

I think of 7 Day Nursery as the boutique nursery in Santa Barbara. They have a wonderful selection of different plants, vegetables, herbs and succulents that are of top quality. From the the curb, the nursery looks small, but don't let that fool you. If you want a great quality nursery or you are passing by, stop and take a look - you won't be disappointed. It's like your own little secret garden. The staff are very helpful and are determined to help you fulfill your wants and needs for your dream garden.
