The only problem was that sone of the slips closer to the shore were extremely shallow but we parked our boat in a shallow spot (3ft) and we were fine but this is probably not going to be a problem for you because the lake was lowered by 2ft because there was a hurricane going up the coast and the mild thunderstorms that would reach the lake would probably flood it. We were unsuccessful after calling, going online, and speaking with the park attendant at the gate. Not a big fan of the east coast and the prices nature parks charge here. Living in the mid and west coast you can literally pull up and park at almost any lake with your hammock and it cost you nothing. Here on the east coast not only are you paying for ok scenery and rude attendants that look over you depending on how you look.

I'm not really sure what her purpose was or what she's supposed to be doing but she interrogated my family the entire time. She kept asking us how many people are supposed to be coming and kept saying "this isn't the place to have a party." She butted into every single conversation we had and was breathing down our necks the entire time. Literally every time any of us used the trash can, she changed the trash like she was annoyed we were using it. I swear the trash was changed 7 times in short amount of time we were there. I didn't mind changing it when we were done either. She screamed at one of my family members very loudly over something he said in a PRIVATE conversation he was having with one of my other family members. Mind you, the conversation had nothing to do with her or the lake. She also screamed at somebody else's kids because they were throwing sand. I understand not throwing it at people but there was nobody around and they were just being kids. My family and I did nothing wrong and I don't think it's fair that we were made this uncomfortable at a public lake. We are good people. We minded our business, were polite, cleaned up after ourselves, and even fed the lady because that's the kind of people we are. I understand if we were being rowdy but we were just literally enjoying family time together. Definitely will never be going back to this lake again.

There are some nice playgrounds for the kids, not big but they get the job done. The pool is small, but nice for kids to play and hang out. There are no fire pits at the spaces so that was a little disappointing. The spaces are very small, but paved. Lots of roots and trees around, so there is not much even ground even for sitting at the picnic tables. Definitely a more family friendly feel, and with the space is being so close. It's not a very relaxing campground with peace and quiet if that's what you're looking for. It wasn't overly loud or people partying it up or anything, but just not a private campground if that's what you're looking for. For $40 a night, I would say that it is well worth the money and our kids had a great time!

Drive all the way to the end of the road to reach the playground and beach area with shallow water that is perfect for kids. Bathrooms are clean and include lots of changing stalls. We saw many hiking trails and will be back to explore those. Nature was pristine -- so well maintained, no trash, absolutely gorgeous. We felt like we were in a magical place on a vacation, not right within Durham. We will be back regularly!
