    Ahi belly special
    Cindy C.

Sunday lunch was busy here but we were seated right away by friendly staff. They had regular menu and specials. I had their ahi belly special which came with caramelized onions and macaroni salad. It was very fresh fish and so flavorful and I appreciated not drowning the fish in sauce. It had perfect amount of soy sauce flavor. The ono sandwich hubby had was also very fresh. It had salt and pepper flavor and topped with tomato and coleslaw; an absolute perfect combination. The restaurant didn't have AC as most restaurants in the area don't seem to take advantage. However, they had all the windows open so the breeze that came through felt nice. Highly recommend!!

Delicious! We had a party of 6 and everyone liked what they ordered. Our server was excellent and food was delicious!

We stumbled upon this place, and we were pleasantly surprised. I thought that because it's a touristy spot that it may not be so good. I was so wrong! The service was great. Our server was efficient and helpful. The food was really good. One of the better pastrami sandwiches I have had! The papaya chicken salad was so unique and delicious. They even had cocktails! Such a bonus. This is a great spot to stop on your drive.

Once we escaped the orbit of the resorts on the west side of the island, the food became more delicious and made with love. That was the case with Hana Hou. After a long hike at the volcano and some beach time, we stopped by for lilikoi lemonades, hot sandwiches, and a loco moco. It really hit the spot. The food had soul and old-time Hawaiian charm, with portions that made you feel like ohana. I would recommend going out of your way to have a taste!

One of the best loco moco it is a bit on the saltier side but it was so good!!! service was friendly & fast! Parking was easy for us but we didn't go during a rush!

7/24/25 Hana Hou 95-1148 Naalehu Spur Rd Naalehu, HI 96772 We stopped here for lunch on the way to South Point on a Thursday. It is the only restaurant in the area and it was really good. Parking is on dirt across the restaurant. It just opened and we were the first there, so service was no issue but good anyway. There is an interior table and chair dining area as well as outside, which can get windy. We ordered the "Sunday Loser" Spicy Chix Sando and the Butter Garlic Lemon Shrimp. Wifey's Chicken sandwich was delicious with a flavorful light breading, thick, moist and tender filet. The fries were also very good. My shrimp also had a light crispy breading in a mild flavorful garlic sauce. The Dill slaw was tasty with a light Dill flavor. Both dishes were exceptional, the chicken was one of the best I ever had. If you are in the area, this is a must stop. Definitely repeatable.

Fresh fish! It was super good, they had a special menu and I got the fresh seared ahi for market price which was $25 when I got it. It was very flavorful and when everything was combined was great. The rice was a perfect touch, the mac salad wasn't too strong so it worked really well. They were playing hawaiian music which was really nice and the nice breeze from the windows felt really good. A nice chill sit down restaurant. The service was prompt and great. Probably one of the best restaurants i've had so far in my hawai'i vacation.

While I read (mixed) reviews, the location was also recommended from the place I stayed. Honestly nearly $65 for one person pretty steep for (tasteless) Ahi burger, fries and something (terrible) in a small cup I think an attempt at coleslaw. Before leaving I grabbed a Dubai Brownie to go. Not very attentive service, it was quite could use a thorough dust/cleaning. Overall underwhelmed.

Love the place . The southernmost restaurant in the entire United States . I get family vibes when I'm there . Food was excellent! It's conveniently located in between Papakolea green sand beach and Punalu'u Black sand beach making it the perfect stop for lunch in between on your excursion . Tammy our server was awesome ! I recommend the smash burger or the ahi yakitori and the macadamia pie for desert . They had a refreshing drink made with unsweetened tea and local lilikoi (passion fruit)

After a long day in the volcano national park, we were recommended to stop here by a local guide, and it did not disappoint! We tried a variety of dishes, had a great bottle of wine, and the macadamia nut pie was delicious and unique (and not overly sweet)! We loved all the dishes: some of the specials like the Siamin, sauteed Mahi Mahi, and the regular items like loco moco and the Pastrami, plus the veggie pizza. So glad we made it, and were kind enough to let us stay past closing for the late meal!

Delicious and fresh! What a surprisingly unique find on the side of the road on the way to the Volcanoes National Park. The ingredients are all so fresh and all their dishes have unique spins. The chicken salad in a fresh papaya was delightful. The Haole Boy pizza was every Hawaiian pizza lovers dream. The dessert fridge was a party for the eyes. So many delicious and unique desserts from pumpkin pie to Dubai Brownies. There is something for everyone! The ambience is wonderful too! With local paintings adorning the walls and the restrooms. A must stop and must see! Also plenty of room for a crowd outside at the picnic tables in the front and on the side.

Visited this place while visiting green sand beach and black sand beach in the area and glad we did! The fish was amazing and really cooked with super flavor and just a good touch to seasoning. All the plates we had were really delicious and cooked perfectly and felt like 5 star restaurants meals! I would definitely recommend and eat here again! Just a good restaurant out of the way of everything that makes you feel good you choose it! The service was good and the ambiance had the feel of a locals dinner and lunch spot that really only locals and go to.! I will definitely be back again!

I love that they kept the marinade true to its roots--soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar. Served over warm rice with some mac salad on the side. Even felt that classic post-meal heartburn afterward with the deliciously tender fat. Perfect meal, no notes. We did the 3 meat combo: Garlic Chicken, Short Rib, and Panko Fish w/ adobo fried rice + sesame corn on the side. I typically would order a mac salad and garlic shrimp but wanted to switch it up randomly for this occasion. Also grabbed two of the Hawaiian Sun drinks for $3.50 per drink which was expensive, but convenient, as we were driving out to catch the sunset and star gazing immediately after picking up our food. If I were to reorder, I'd do the same 3 piece combo, highlighting that the panko fish was surprisingly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so this was a great option. I'd probably go with mac salad and give the kimchi fried rice a try. A friend did let us try the purple sweet potato salad side. This was a nice change of pace similar to the traditional mac salad.

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

The restaurant is inside the very old classic Volcano Lodge; complete with wood fireplace. Staying in the lodge made it simple to have meals; we ate at the Rim two nights, one night at the more casual Lodge restaurant Uncle Georges Lounge. All meals were prepared very well. For the first meal, we ordered a couple of Mai Tais that were nicely flavorful. For appetizers, I can recommend the Furikake Seared Ahi; gently seared with very flavorful colorful condiments. Plus, the portion was relatively generous as well. The chef's entree special was an amazing local fish prepared attractively and tasting marvelous. For our second night, the volcano was no longer erupting and the crowds of watchers had left so the meal was far less hectic. Did a less extravagant meal of Big Island Stuffed Chicken (great stuffing of Feta cheese and greens!) and it was a great choice. (I had the Seared Ahi again!) Straying from fish my partner went with the perfectly grilled 12 oz Hawaiian beef ribeye. Finished up with a fun crème brûlée with lots of burnt sugar!. Not a restaurant to drive 1-2 hours to, but if you find yourself on the mountain, well-worth stopping for a great meal here. but try to get there when the volcano isn't erupting or you'll be trampled, pushed, and find nowhere to park.

We were a party of three and all of us had the ribeye. First off they were out of asparagus so we had wilted spinach and fennel. So overly salted and the mash potatoes, they had to come from a box!!! The bread was good but the butter was excellent, the only reason this is getting two starts was our waiter and the butter!!! Our meal for three people nothing to drink but water the three ribeyes and one dessert for our 13 year old was 229.00. I don't mind paying for dinner when it's edible but we left almost all our steak on the plates and the waiter didn't even ask why. My recommendation is have dinner at the other restaurant get the view and pay way less. If you look at my review for tonight's dinner you will see I don't leave reviews just when it's bad. We had dinner in Kona tonight at fish hopper and it was excellent service and food with an amazing view as well.
