If I had gone on a day when the temperature was in the double digits in Fahrenheit, I might have…read moregiven this park at least 4 stars, but when I visited on Father's Day, there wasn't really much to do. Scorching hot temperatures scared everyone away because none of the kids would want to play on the playground there, though I did see one family just sitting there, possibly resting during a long road trip. Otherwise, it was literally a ghost town minus the tumbleweeds. I stopped by this park to just get away from city life. Well actually, I wanted to visit the nearby Nekter Juice Bar because they a Father's Day promo going on that would only work for that day and that day only. I had already visited the other Nekter location in the Greater San Antonio area, but wanted to pay a visit to this location aloof from the urban life. Bullis County Park and Nekter are just across from one another, opposite Borgfield Dr. After leaving Nekter with smoothie in hand, I drove up Old Blanco and parked in the parking lot right in front of the playground. As I mentioned, nobody was playing in the playground. I did see a pavilion, which allowed me to rest in the shade and take more photos of the park while sipping on my smoothie. The park wasn't the greatest, I can say. Let's just say the grass is greener on the other side lol. I was, however, fascinated by some rock and log formation near the pavilion. There are a handful of picnic tables in the pavilion that you could throw a party at. However, you'll need to reserve the space beforehand; call in advance to do so! On the south side of the park, there is a softball field, which surprise surprise, nobody was there during my visit. However, I was fascinated by the number of dandelions I saw in the outfield. Nice to see, but I'm sure outfielders will be trampling over them while trying to catch a fly ball. To the west, there is nothing but trees. The grounds immediately around the pavilion have seen better days. Grass isn't very abundant here. It almost looked like the cows have eaten most of the grass here! Not that I'm comparing this park to Brackenridge Park, which I had visited the weekend before, but it was kind of a boring visit overall to Bullis County Park. Then again, if school were in session, I'm sure it would have been loads better with kids enjoying the playground and possibly frolicking through the flowers. I say this because it's real close to Timberwood Park Elementary School, and it would make for a nice place to unwind and relax after school, if the weather were nicer, that is. 3 stars for now. I still recommend stopping by if you want to stretch your legs, but don't expect anything memorable here. The only thing memorable about my visit to this park was sipping on my cold smoothie, which allowed me to stay at the park for a while without burning in the hot sun.

04 Jan 2026 This is…read morea cute,small wilderness area. It butts up against a neighborhood on one side and up against a water dam of some sort on the other. The trail is basically fenced in. This is a dormant time of the year. Nothing flowering, did not see any deer, no insects. Hell, there weren't any birds, either. There was a lot cactus. The trail is a loop. Less than 2 miles. The husband was taking pictures and we were done in less than an hour because as I said, nothing much is happening. We'll go back in two or three months when hopefully things are hopping.

This park has been renamed Mission Park Pavilions, and aptly so. It has three or four pavilions,…read morebut who's counting, right? Call 210-335-7275 to reserve one of them. All the outdoor pavilions have huge ceiling fans in them and that makes it a good pit stop for the sun baked, tired travelers traversing (see what I did there? Alliteration LOL) the Mission Reach trail. One of the pavilions has a cool setup that is great for concerts and dancing. There's a stage with a huge open area that can fit at least 100 people, maybe more. Stage lighting is included, but a speaker/P.A. system is not. There's also an indoor pavilion but it was locked up, so I didn't get to check it out. It might be air conditioned, but I don't know. Call the phone number above to inquire. There's a water fountain to refill your jug, a dog fountain for your four-legged family members, and a playground for the short ones. If you are kayaking/canoeing, it's about a 100-yard hike from the edge of the park to the closest access point to put your rig in the river. There are a couple of other access points nearby in each direction too. There's a TON of parking at this one folks. Keep in mind, this park is operated by Bexar County, it's not a city park, so the rules are different here. Learn them, know them, live them (loose quote on a favorite movie - message me if you want to know where it's from - or if you know where it's from).

Three cheers to the San Antonio River Authority for making this such a special and beautiful place. This is quite a nice park. There are restrooms around, check the maps posted around the park. They offer baseball diamonds, and plenty of places to sit under a tree and watch the breeze blow. It's a great place to take a bike ride. There's all these bike lanes and wide bike paths so you don't have to worry about the traffic. I really appreciate this park and all it has to offer!

The group was comprised of less then 10 people, with half of them having prior kayak experience. Well...the group I came with had no kayak experiences but Stacey and the others were very accommodating. They gave us tips and guided us through the small (yet adrenaline rushing) rapids along the Guadalupe. By the end of the session, I was exhausted (and sun burned). Overall, great experience. Stacey Banta is a top notch guide. Highly recommended.

We thought maybe they'd rent us a couple of life jackets and it wouldn't hurt to ask. They first ignored us as we stood there waiting for them to greet us. When we told them our predicament and unusual request, they were extremely rude. One of the workers told us we could buy (not rent) a couple, and never once made eye contact or a "have a good day." While I can't blame them for not renting them without a board, their customer service was awful. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Maybe this is the city's plan for duck relocation they were talking about on KSAT 12 last night. 11 Mar 26 - Ever wonder how many ducks can fit into a Walmart bag? The answer is two. Now how did they come to be in the bag you ask. Well, since there is only 600ft between the two stop signs on South Ellison Dr next to the pond either a driver was speeding recklessly between the stop signs or purposely targeted ducks. Smash carcasses is common around Heritage Duck pond. Do you enjoy observing animal cruelty and harassment? Then come on down to Heritage Duck pond where you can watch both children, adults, and unleashed pets terrorize, chase, and strike wildlife. It exceptionally riveting, seeing adults throw rocks at ducks and turtles. Do you love fishing with zero responsibility? We got you covered here; just abandon any wanted fishing line, hooks, lures, and bait you don't want. The waterfowl and turtles might be horribly mangled by it but hey it's their fault for being there. While you're visiting don't worry about using the few trash cans on site. Nobody else seems to do so and it's just so much easier to toss the garbage into the water or on the ground. Solutions: Local residents/visitors throw away your trash, manage your kids/pets, feed wildlife proper food. If you see others being tools then say something. San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department should consider installing trash cans along the S. Ellison Drive side of the pond, update signage for wildlife care, regular cleaning schedule for shoreline and waterway. ACS/Game Wardens/TWPD /Park Police regular visits to park to manage animal cruelty / harassment. Fishing license enforcement with TWPD / SAPD/ Park Police San Antonio Public Works should consider installing speed bumps between the two stop signs on S. Ellison Dr next to the pond.

We had heard about this little waterfall/dam that was easy to get to and made for some nice…read morephotographs, so we came early in the morning to avoid the heat. The water is very blue, but there were signs saying not to swim in it. There were lots of ducks and geese looking for food, so you may want to bring peas or corn for them. I didn't see signs that said not to feed them. There is a playground nearby and a bathroom near the parking area.
