I don't normally leave negative reviews but I felt like I needed to make an exception this time. I don't want to single out any specific hairstylists but I will say that the hairstylist in question was also reviewed by someone else with similar complaints. I went in for a partial balyage hair treatment at paramount pampering on 4/27. When asked what my desired look would be I showed the the stylist a photo from her very own Instagram page, an Ashy blonde balyage style. When I showed her the picture she said she didn't remember what she did, but she had a general idea of how to get me there. She never mentioned multiple sessions, so let me put that out there before I receive a response from management saying that multiple sessions were an option. I would have had NO problems if she could have gotten me to my desired color with multiple sessions. Long story short it ended up looking like I had thick blotchy highlights, not at all a balyage and she kept celebrating her work and repeating that there were no brassy tones when I clearly spotted a few. Two showers later I had an ORANGE HAIRED DISASTER. My hair was FRIED, orange and just horrible. I called the salon multiple times to remedy the situation, but the salon was closed, or on lunch, or understaffed at front desk, and FINALLY on 5/03 I got through. When I expressed my issues to the stylist in question she got extremely defensive, telling me I probably did something wrong and she told me there was no way my hair could get to the color I wanted. (Yeah, it actually can, I've been there with my stylist in NY. Unfortunately I couldn't get to my usual stylist because she just recently had a baby and is on maternity leave until further notice.) The stylist at Paramount called me in to see what she can do, but told me my hair will always stay brassy/orange because that's the type of hair I have (TOO BAD). It was very upsetting, but I needed to get it fixed so I rushed in for an emergency appointment to tone my hair on my 30th Birthday because the following day I was leaving for vacation. When I got to the salon, the stylist was very rude, barely gave me a second look, put toner in a bowl handed me off to someone else and then had me deal with the managers. This is when things went really south. The toner obviously didn't get me to the ashy beige blonde I was looking for, and then the managers dried a handful of hair to reveal a chunk of brassy burned hair. Let's face it, she destroyed virgin hair and toner was basically a bandaid over a gunshot wound. The managers then singled me out by the texture of my hair, told me my curly hair could never get to my desired color and, get this, tried to up sell me more treatments and salon products! One of the managers said I should book an appointment for a Brazilian blowout to "reduce frizz" while the other one said I needed blue shampoo for my color to be less orange. They also proceeded to blame me for why my hair did not retain the color. They told me it was my shampoo, that I probably don't use a sulfate free one and that I SHOULD TAKE BETTER CARE OF MY HAIR!!! First off, I pointed out that I used the SAME shampoo they sell in their salon, the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Ginger SULFATE FREE shampoo. The managers then told me I probably bought a knock off because hair care is only sold to Salons. I told her I bought my shampoo from Ulta so she told me that buying from Ulta was the problem. She claimed that Ulta waters down the formula and Paramount pampering can't control product quality at Ulta Beauty. Well then ULTA BEAUTY CORPORATION owes me and a lot of other women a WHOLE lot of money back. And I'll be contacting them with this allegation as well. OMG WHAT A NIGHTMARE! Ladies in the central Jersey area BEWARE!!! Only trouble lies ahead if you book at Paramount. There is no sense of accountability and THAT is what lead me to write this review. read more

I went to see Ahlyza for a balayage to refresh the highlights on an old balayage, bring the highlights up, tone them, and brighten up the existing highlights. She asked me to show her a pic of what I wanted to achieve, but she began working before I was able to. She was chatting with friends/family who were visiting the salon. And she spoke more to them than me (she didn't know me, and I was a first time client). I felt that the experience was very impersonal. My hair came out looking NOTHING like any of the photos she posts to her instagram account. She did not take my before/after photo either. I believe Ahlyza gives more effort to friends/family/long term clients or those she hopes to post on her instagram account. I'm going to attach a picture of my balayage 5 months after I had it done by Ahlyza at Paramount Pampering salon in Somerville. I have not touched my hair, toned it, or visited a salon since her services until today. My new stylist in NYC SAVED my hair from the chunky, uneven, sloppy balayage highlights Ahlyza provided me with. The salon was in shock and said my hair bleached super easily and toned beautifully so there was no reason for the sloppy mess I was left with at Paramount Pampering. I will attach a picture of my results on the left hand side, the right is the incredible correction my new stylist did today for the same price... be careful, not everything on social media is what it's cracked up to be! This place is expensive, paid $100+ just for having long hair. Price I didn't mind, but my new stylist said my color placement and results were not even worth $5. He saved my hair! My hair looked like at at-home ombré gone wrong! Thankful for my new stylist he was worth the train ride from NJ to NYC. Beware of instagram! I originally booked online to have a full balayage and when I came in I told her I had never done anything to my hair before and she kindly recommended starting with a partial balayage before committing to a full. This salon is great and you can really tell that they care about customer experience. The area is very clean and professional in appearance and setting up appointments is very easy as they have an online system where you can view past appointments and easily rebook. I went here for a haircut and blowout from Ahlyza, which came out to about $65, which is slightly more expensive than most places but reasonable. She was very sweet and took the time to make sure that she knew what I wanted. I was very impressed by the end result and will definitely be coming back! I have very mixed feeling about this salon. It is a very cute location, and much bigger than it appears to be from the outside. Not terribly impressed with the reception area-both times I have been there the girls are talking among themselves and didn't acknowledge me. I sat down until they were finished and still not being welcome, I went in to tell them I was there. But it the scheme of things, not terrible -most salons are like that.But what bothers me is their prices. And trust me when I say I am not terrible price sensitive. On my first visit I had a partial highlight and haircut that ended up being $300! I do have a lot of hair but seriously people this is NJ, not NYC. They e-mail you your receipt and when I got home noticed that there were two charges for partial highlight. Assuming they made a mistake, I e-mailed them, but was informed that the price was indeed correct. For the record on the website the price for a partial highlight is $80+, so $300 was kind of a shock. While my hair looked good, it wasn't $300 good. My second appointment was just a haircut. I have long straight hair, with no layers except in the front. Seriously, probably one of the more straightforward hair cuts there can be. The stylist cut my hair dry (???) and 15 minutes later she was done. Grand total for 15 minutes work (no shampoo and obviously no blow dry, no styling) - $45. This place does a competent job, but I will be looking elsewhere for the price. For these prices I would expect a very high end salon. This is not a high end salon, but slightly better than a middle of the road place read more

Cielona did a half balayage on my hair and understood exactly what I needed. She had another client close to me so Gigi finished with my shampoo and blowout. I tried to walk in for a mani pedi this afternoon and unfortunately they were booked until 5:30. I did make an apt to go back and I'm glad I did. Rosa did my gel mani and regular pedi and it was great. She paid very good attention to detail and I love the way both the mani and pedi look. Salon is very nice and all of the girls working are very nice. They all seem to know each other and all of the customers which is nice to see. A few reasons I'm rating this a 4 rather than 5. 1) it's a little pricey, especially for Somerville area - gel mani and pedi was $55. 2) I think they use the same towels for hair treatments and nails which is a little gross. 3) 2 hours is a very long time for mani pedi, especially if you have to pay for parking (after 5pm is free). very happy with both mani and pedi....will return for another visit. read more

I brought my daughters here for a mani pedi treat prior to a special family event. The salon is lovely, clean and the staff is very friendly. We all got gel manis and a regular pedi. I would come back in a second except for one major issue. Online the services we got were listed as a dynamic duo for $50. My girls each got a design that I was told would be $2 each for a total of $8. When I went to pay I was charged $165 for the duos and an additional $11 for the designs. I explained the website listing and what I was told the designs cost. While she apologized, no accommodations were made and my bill was my bill. What a disappointing ending to a lovely afternoon. I strongly feel that a business should honor its advertised prices. UPDATE- the next morning I received an email honoring the listed website price from Naomi and they also posted such on Yelp. okay so i came here because i heard good reviews about alyhza.. first time i got my hair done wasn't too bad she gave me a blonde balayage look expect for the fact that she told me she wasn't going to let me come out with brassy yellow hair yet i left with that on the top but the bottom was really blonde so i didn't mind since i liked the bottom look came back the second time around she gave me a 2 minute haircut! i kid you not i never got a haircut that fast in my life! hair cut was horrible and choppy! then i told her i just want it retouched she ended up giving me dark grey balayage it looked so horrible! it was dark grey in the ends and that brassy blonde once again towards the roots... came back after this mistake to get fixed by the boss! and she used a color corrector to bring it back to the way i came in with.. so i basically spent my money for a brassy root color.. showed the boss a picture of what my old hairstylist in miami achieved in 2 sessions and was told they couldn't do it and did my hair get damaged from that! no it didn't and i don't see why i would spend a fortune for these sessions that not only get me further from my goals but has left me with short hair and more damaged as well. she also told me the brassy color blended well?! no..i would advise not to come here! my friend also had the same problem and i didn't listen.. so be warned. read more

I would not recommend this place for blonde highlights. I have gone to probably ten different stylists in the last 5 years (I am really not picky and will usually take any colorist who is free) and never had an issue matching my previous highlights until this salon where they made my hair ashy and grey. They fixed it as much as they could the next day and did not charge me full price but it's still much darker than I wanted even though I was assured they could match the color I came with. I ended up having 4 different stylists trying to help with this, so it's not a problem with one person. I came here because of the great reviews but I want to warn others so they don't have the same bad experience as me. This place is not worth the risk, even if you're just trying to get your roots touched up like I was. read more

This was my first time visiting Paramount Pampering Salon. I was very happy from start to finish with my visit and specifically my stylist, Ahlyza. The salon called me 45 minutes prior to my appointment to let me know if I was available, that I could come in earlier. I was greeted by name by the friendly receptionist when I walked in (I guess I was the only appointment at that time). The salon is clean, modern and has that spa like feel. Ahlyza sat with me first for a consult. I came in just for a trim and to have my layers cleaned up. She cut my hair dry and then gave a great shampoo washing. She blew my hair out exactly as I wanted. She was quick and thorough but without me feeling rushed. She gave me a quick tour on the way back from the washing station and made me aware of the other services they offer such as massages, manicures & pedicures. After my last experience, I can say that I will not be back. I have gotten full balayage x2, full babylights x1, partial babylights x2, and a haircut x1 and I have had 3 different stylists (Cielona, Ahlyza, Jeannie). While I have only been extremely disappointed in one service (a full balayage), I have never been WOW'ed. I do appreciate management reaching out after my subpar experience with a balayage but after receiving 3 services since, I am still waiting to be WOW'ed, especially for the money they charge. I really want to love this salon but after continuously being excited to get my hair done, I am always leaving with, "yeah, this looks good" but it's not one of those beautiful transformations as depicted on Instagram. I walked out feeling completely satisfied with my cut, which is very rare for the first time you work with a hair stylist, and a testament to the initial time and care he took to discuss what I was looking for and his checking in several times throughout the cut to make sure all was going as planned. So I got microblading done here and I was so happy how they came out!! So good! Yohannan did my brows and I love how she gave me a consultation before she did them! She Made sure I felt comfortable and relaxed before we started. I was very particular with the look of my brows since I have a round face, and she took in every account of what I said. She also reassured me that she wants to make it look natural to fit the features of my face and still give me the look I want. She took the time to carve out my brows which I very much appreciated since i have very sparse brows to begin with. Also the place is very clean, neat and amazing; so chic and sophisticated. I've been to paramount on several occasions where I saw different stylists each time. It's conveniently located to my home as opposed to traveling to the city. It had good reviews so I gave it a shot. I went in with specific pictures of what I wanted to achieve. My goal was cool toned dark blonde hair from level 5 medium brown hair. Long story short, my experience was very similar to Asmara's below. My hair is all different colors. There's a mixture of ashy pieces and brassy chunks-no where the desired look after spending $900. They tried to mask the brassiness with toner that doesn't seem to stay in past 2 washes with good hair care and maintenance. I found it odd that after three sessions they didn't even get close to the color I wanted when I've previously had this color achieved before at a different location in less time while maintaining the integrity of my hair. After a consultation at my previous salon, I have to glaze to my natural color to balance the multiple colors in my hair and start over. Overall, I kept giving this salon a shot because it's close to home and the girls are nice and the owner is nice, but in my opinion the stylists don't have enough color experience for the prices they charge. read more

I would NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE. My first visit to this place was AWFUL. The receptionist was GLUED to her phone, TERRIBLE attitude, employees were huddled in the back taking selfies, the automospere was unwelcoming.. I was scheduled to be with Ahlyza. I ended up getting cut by someone else but I overheard the employees saying Ahlyza could not do my hair because she is not LICENSED and not only that I overheard that there are MORE people in the SALON who do not have a license.... they were all nervous on what to do. I will never come back here again and will tell ALL my friends and family about this issue... The prices are high & work is mediocre my hair cut was uneven and not layered correctly...I had high hopes since the salon itself is gorgeous but not worth ANYONES money or TIME.
