My regular hairdresser for 10 yrs had moved a few years back, and I have been lost ever since. Been to a few places in Kailua and in town, not very impressed with anyone. I saw a Groupon for Paris Green Salon for a Brazilian blowout, which I've been wanting to do for awhile. I checked out their Facebook page, and saw they had a 1st time customer special for $60 a haircut and color touch-up. I was so fed up with my hair, which my highlights were faded from being in the sun the last month, and unruly from the weather, I called them to make an appointment. I didn't even think that they could fit me in before the holidays, but she said I could come in that same day! Excited, I made the appt and hung up. I then realized I couldn't make it in till 5pm. Saddened that I may have to re-schedule, I called back, and she gladly said that my hairdresser Al was working late that evening. YIPPEE! You always get a little nervous when you go to a hair salon the first time, but they were very nice on the phone, and gave perfect directions. The salon is tucked away in Kailua, behind MacDonalds, where the old Gee, it's a Deli area was in a Coral building. It looked small from the outside, but very cute, clean and quaint inside. They use Paul Mitchell products which I like, but also Morrocon oils, which was a great product on my hair. I had been wanting to cut off 3-5 inches off for awhile, and was trying to grow my bangs out, but still liked them. My highlighlights had gone brassy. After I told Al my woes on my hair, he seemed to know exactly what to do! After seeing myself in the mirror, roots drenched in bleachy goo, I got nervous, but he assured me that I will love the rich color, and my highlights will still shine through. We put a Paul Mitchel Shine conditoner, which I like, he was right, the color was a winner!! Now the crying game, watching my locks being cut.. but before i knew it, I was already transformed to a Movie Star!!! He kept my bangs but "swooped" them to the side, and I still had length with my layers. I usually have them Flat iron my hair, which always make you look hot, but I can NEVER do right at home. Al showed me how to blow-dry it with a round brush that gave it more style, still looked straight, and easy to do! I got many compliments the next day at work, people were calling me "The Glamour Girl", and loved the color and new style. Frizzy hair gone, hello new look! Thank you Al!!! Being a military spouse I move A LOT and I always do a lot of homework when looking for a new stylist. Therefore, I read a lot of reviews before choosing Al at Paris Green Salon. I'm so grateful I happened upon his reviews and felt the need to post my own for the next new girl in town looking for a new stylist and salon. Al gave me a consultation before we began and listened to what I wanted before he provided recommendations to fit my face, hair type, and the low maintenance I was looking for. He gave me beautiful, bright, natural looking beach blonde highlights and a cut with long layers and face framing layers that honestly made me feel like a runway model! My hair has not felt or looked this good in so long. Al brought my sexy back and I definitely recommend him! Ps. For those of you that just want some quiet or reading time during your salon experience, Al made nice friendly conversation but also allowed me to relax and was not too loquacious. I was looking for a Paul Mitchell hairdresser and this was the 1st place that popped up on a google search. I am always very hesitant seeing someone new because I have a LOT of very fine aging hair with waves & frizz and have experienced terrible cuts and very damaging color. I am stoked to report the guy who picked up the phone when I called, Al, did an amazing job with my cut, color and style. He also turned me on to really great products. Products that are waaaay better for my hair than what I had been using. About Al DeGrate... Al shared that he is originally from Texas, lived in England for 8 years and traveled throughout Europe...my kind of guy right there, as I love Europe. He is Kamaaina, living in Hawaii since the 80's. Al is charming, friendly, courteous, very attentive and just has a super nice personality. Some hairdressers I've seen in the past seem to pretend to be in the moment with you, but are really off in their own world, going thru the motions of their service. How refreshing to be with a genuinely caring, fun, interesting and positive person who makes 2 hours feel like 45 minutes! About the Salon... A true hideaway tucked back behind Hungry Ear on Kuulei Rd. I should have parked in the municipal parking because all you do is walk out towards the Kuulei road side and WA-la, theres the 1 story coral building that houses Paris Green Salon. Walking in it feels tiny, but in a good way....cozy chic. Its tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Obviously Suzanne the owner, (I think that is her name) has an eye for art. Best Brazilian Blowout Ever! This was the fastest yet most detailed Brazilian Blowout I've ever received! I've had a Brazilian Blowout done in other states and they cannot top this one!! Al was an amazing stylist who took great care of me with precision and swiftness. The price for the Blowout was affordable, scheduling an appointment was a breeze and accommodating for my schedule, and the appointment was under 2 hrs for lengthy hair(waist length). Most importantly, my Brazilian Blowout was long lasting which isn't usually the case since my hair is extremely curly/frizzy hair(afro). My wife & mother-in-law have been going to Al for quite a while and my wife finally convinced me to go to a"stylist" instead of my usual barber because she was tired of seeing my shaved scalp every time I went...LOL...so I decided to go on my lunch break one day. My hair had not been styled in over 1 year. Pulled back-twist-clip was my every day style. Yesterday I decided to finally get my hair cut. After researching and reading reviews for several salons I chose Paris Green Salon. Al was my stylist and I was very happy with the results. He took the time to understand what I was looking for in length/style etc.. He was pleasant, professional and reasonably priced. He also shared tips on what products to use when swimming in chlorinated water, and when dyeing your hair at home or in a salon. Again, I am very happy with the results. I was frantically looking for a hair dresser last min for a professional photo shoot. I needed to get rid of the tired balayage back to natural black to look more professional. Al accommodated me at the 11th hr and turned my hair to rich, darkest brown. He gave it a wonderful finish with a blow dry and it just was so bouncy and shiny. This review is long overdue! I've been going to Al for years now, and he never disappoints me. Everything he does is always on point! My cuts, highlights, trim and especially my Brazilian blowout! Suzanne Green is a deliteful stylist. She listens to what I want and does it in a good amount of time. The salon is small with three chairs but very comfortable and stylish. This is a small but cute hair salon in Kailua town. It's not really visible from the street. It's in a coral colored building. I usually park at the large public parking lot near Zippy's then walk over. I've gone to Suzanne at Paris Green for years. She is a consummate professional. She has cut, colored and permed my hair for over a decade. I've never had a bad haircut or blowout from her. She listens to what you want then delivers. She doesn't try to impose her idea of what looks good on you. Her prices are comparable to other salons. I feel like a million dollars when I leave the salon. A co-worker once told me that my hair looked like a model's. This was said a day after my cut and blow-dry. Too bad I can't always replicate Suzanne's great results on my own, but that's my fault not her's as my blow drying skills are those of a five year old. read more

My wife and I both visit Caroline Richardson at Paris Green. My wife started visiting Caroline when she returned to Oahu 2 years ago. Caroline was at another studio then and then left Hawaii. It hasn't even been more than a day since I went to Al for a Brazilian Blowout & I've already been given massive amounts of compliments. I have naturally wavy/curly hair that gets annoyingly frizzy because of Hawaii's humidity, so I normally do Japanese straightening perms. But after a while I got sick of my hair looking unnaturally straight & limp, so I went to Al to do a Brazilian Blowout for the first time. At first I was really nervous after having many bad experiences at other salons, but Al made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire treatment & gave me some very helpful tips. There is no designated parking lot for the salon, and if you would never see it from the street if you were driving. All parking is metered parking. This review is for the Japanese hair straightening treatment. Your hair changes as you get older and won't get as stick straight as when you were younger, but I still wanted to get it straightened. Al was fast and reasonably priced for this treatment. Much cheaper then any other place in Hawaii. He is also fun and easy to talk to. I'm going back for another treatment. read more

I am new to the area, and chose to give Al a try because of the good reviews I read on here. I arrived at my appointment and told Al that I just wanted highlights. He wanted me to color the base of my hair brown, the same color of the faded low lights someone before him had placed before, I told him no, that I just wanted to touch up my highlights. Al got very upset at me, and told me that unless I let him color the base of my hair brown (which I absolutely did not want) that he would not do my hair. I showed him pictures that he pointed to and bluntly told me that I was lying that my hair always looked brown. He has a very high pitched voice and talks at and over you. My ten year old son was there with me and when he left he asked, "Why was he screaming at you?" I told Al, let me get this straight, either I let you dye my hair the color you want or you're telling me you won't do it? Well, thank you very much! You won't be doing my hair." He was so spiteful, that as I was walking out he followed me out the door still yelling at me. What a controlling, imposing, aggressive person you are. I did not appreciate getting yelled at for ten minutes in front of my son. I actually had to sit in my car and catch my breath before I could drive and stop crying. This was a horrible scary experience, and no one should get yelled at for not agreeing with a hair dresser. Just ridiculous. Ridiculous man, and so sad that based on his responses here he thinks his behavior is completely acceptable. Please don't waste your time coming to see this man, there are plenty of kind, calm hairdressers in the area. No need to put up with an imposing yeller. read more

We had such a hard time finding a stylist that could handle our thick Polynesian hair, but once we found Al, our hair problems disappeared. He had us fall in love again with our look and gave us each a style that fits our life and personalities. He is very professional and is a delight to be around when we come to the salon. Im am a hair salon virgin. I was fortunate to have my first time with Al at Paris Green Salon. I went all out for a the first time with a Brazilian Blowout. I am pacific islander so my curls can get wild but they are also not as coarse as ethnic hair which gets real tricky because it can't handle extreme chemicals since its thinned out. So it was great to visit with Al who was knowledgable with hair on both ends of the spectrum. Visit was great, on schedule and parking was hassle-free. Al was great ,thorough and talked you through the whole process. Especially for a first timer being told what is being done and the importance of each step helps in maintaining your hair. It has been 3 months and my hair is still straight and natural looking which is hard to come by. I don't even need to straighten it. I just blow dry and comb through when in a hurry. Thanx Al.
