The perfect place to try out a variety of speakers. Other places I tried didn't have the same selection and made me feel rushed during the process. Andrew was very responsive leading up to and after the appointment, making sure my questions were answered. Bought an expensive ($4500) audio component from Park Ave at a good price with a credit card on Feb 11. Component to be shipped to me in CT. Less than 50 miles away...Still had not received item by Feb 23. Requested to cancel order and was told I would have to pay a $675 restocking fee. There was never any mention made of a restocking when when I made the purchase. Never. In fact, the item was shipped from Europe, unbeknownst to me and Park Avenue Audio never had the item in their possession when I canceled. Restock what? They never had the thing... So, bottom line, they have good, below-retail prices, but they are very slow to fulfill orders. And the hidden fees? Bad business practice, especially when it's never discussed with the customer...Make sure you ask about the mysterious RESTOCKING FEE before you order anything read more

Andrew Lorberbaum helped me put together a fantastic combination of equipment using his out of the box thinking and his deep knowledge of where true performance (relative to cost) in HiFi products exists. His patience was key -- while I could have pulled the trigger on Day 1, by not rushing me, Andrew managed to steer me towards a couple of excellent choices that I believe were far superior to what I had in mind originally. In the end, I'm a very happy customer! I ended up spending around 20% more than what I had planned for in my initial budget, but I believe the equipment I obtained easily represents more than 100% greater value than the equipment I had in mind at first, and was well worth the extra money and time. The choice to go a little bit higher than originally planned was entirely my own, and the result is that I now have a setup I can live with for the next 20 years, as opposed to something that I might have wanted to upgrade after 5 years. Andrew was both helpful and educational throughout the entire process, guiding me to where to spend my money and where not to. I appreciate his patience and strong domain expertise and can't recommend him highly enough. He comes across as extremely genuine and honest, and it's clear to me that he truly puts his clients' interests first, which is why his ratings on here are consistently strong. It was also a true pleasure to work with him. He was energetic and enthusiastic throughout the process, educated me about each component we ended up picking, and completely tailored my setup to my needs. Also, Park Avenue Audio probably has the strongest line-up of equipment available that I have seen in the NYC area, so it made comparisons between various speakers and amps pretty straightforward. I'd also say that almost every time I had a question, I'd get an answer within minutes over email. Basically Andrew was available 24/7 to me throughout this journey -- very impressive and dedicated. Lastly, if you are a newbie to HiFi (like I was / am), it can be a bit intimidating to walk into a high-end HiFi shop where some of the equipment costs north of $100k (my budget was far below that). Andrew helped me upgrade from a pair of KEF LS50s to some fantastic B&W 805 D3s along with a sub from JL and a Bluesound Node 2i. My purchase was motivated by purchasing a Mojo Chord and Sennheiser HD660S and hearing what music 'should sound like'. After I nearly purchased a similar price range Sonus Faber set, what stood out for me is that I was coached through the process in a very educational way that helped me to understand both the objective and subjective aspects of hi-fi purchasing while also being encouraged to 'go and do my own research'. Nothing's worse than being pushed to do something without a bit of time to reflect, gather information, listen, and then finally decide. Back in 2012 they installed a multi-room Sonos system. About a year ago it started acting up when playing Spotify, but I figured it was a software issue and a Sonos update would fix it. I tried everything, I tried rebooting, updating, reconnecting Spotify. I contacted Sonos support, I waited on hold, nothing. FINALLY I called Park Avenue Audio, and Andrew sent Rudolf over. In 15 minutes, Rudolf found the problem and fixed it! (I was embarrassed to discover/remember that I had connected a wireless router to my Sonos equipment in a way it probably shouldn't have been). He took me around the entire store explaining the differences among the various options. He's very experienced and matched the speakers to my room, equipment, music and budget. After listening to different models, and returning with my wife so she could listen too, we selected a pair of floor standing speakers. Great sound! Andrew kept in contact with me and about a year later we started talking about a home theater upgrade. We added components over the next 18 months. Each time he thought about our next step (even before me) to the point where I now have an excellent 5.1.4 system. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. When we were selecting speakers, the center channel did not come in copper to match the L/R front speakers. He called a VP at the brand and actually found one of two in the world in copper. Amazing. In particular, Luciano went above and beyond to help me choose the right system. He waited patiently while I auditioned various systems (I was deciding between the B&W CM9 and 805d), explained the different trade offs I would be making depending on which amps/speakers/cables/DACs/etc that I chose, he even went step by step to explain which cables would go where in my new set up, and was just all around great. Buying my audio equipment from Andrew at Park Avenue audio was an awesome experience. I didn't know much about what I was getting into, and Andrew took over an hour of his time to show me the ropes and extensively walk me through everything I needed to know about building my system. He immediately acknowledged that he generally sells more high-end and expensive products than what I was looking for, but still took his time to educate me and find the equipment that best fit my needs. Considering Andrew supplies some of the biggest audiophiles in the city, and routinely makes sales in the 5 and 6 figures, I was very impressed with the level of customer service and attention I received. He was extremely transparent about price points and how much money I should spend based on what I wanted, never tried to up sell me and even hooked me up with better prices than what I could find online! As an added bonus, he was super cool with my dog being in the store and told us to come visit anytime. We also had a good conversation and he even turned me on to some cool new music. Overall, this was an extremely pleasant and educational experience, and I'm glad I came in the store instead of trying to piece together my system using online reviews and online retailers. P.S. I didn't read the reviews here before going to the store, but having looked now I am quite shocked at the one star reviews... I noticed a few people mentioned that Park Avenue does not stock cheaper Audio equipment, which is definitely true as the products I wanted were not at the store. HOWEVER, even at my low price point, Andrew was super helpful in finding the right equipment for me, called his supplier, and is arranging a delivery at my house within a reasonable time window. Sure, I could've gotten these products on Amazon or another online retailer maybe a little quicker, but Andrew also hooked up a legit discount so I ended up saving a solid amount of money. I am a customer of Park Avenue Audio, a high-end audio retailer at 440 Park Avenue South. I want to commend the customer service of both Andrew Lorberbaum and Michael O'Keefe, two members of Park Avenue Audio's sales staff. Andrew helped me pick out my system, with which I am thrilled. Although I was looking to buy many components that were more expensive, Andrew correctly steered me toward some lower-priced, but great-performing and great-sounding pieces, each of which, when put together, made for a terrific stereo system with which I am very pleased. Andrew knew my budget and was able to come in under budget. He did not try and up-sell, even though he knew I had more flexibility in my budget. He also picked out terrific interconnect cables to complete my system. When I had a technical problem with a component several months after I purchased it, Andrew and Michael spent considerable time troubleshooting the unit with me, both via e-mail and inside Park Avenue's storeroom on Park Avenue South. Michael O'Keefe actually spent about two hours with me and my unit working through my issues. Although the issues were not the responsibility of Park Avenue Audio, Andrew and Michael worked together to address my issue to my complete satisfaction and did it on my schedule, not theirs. I had the pleasure of buying a Marantz NR1603 from Park Ave Audio and I could not have been more pleased with my buying experience. I spoke with my sales representative over the phone (forgive me for not remembering his name) who spent 10 minutes describing the exact advantages and features of the 1603 over the 1403. It was great service. When I went in the next day to pick it up, everything went off without a hitch. As noted, the prices are a bit steep but it's NYC and it's some pretty top level audio brands so that's to be expected. Overall, if you're looking to buy a higher range audio system for your home and the time to sit down and listen to different speakers/subs/receivers (they have 2 listening rooms set up)...Park Ave Audio is a real good bet. read more

6 Stars folks. Every time I've ever been here the staff has been SOOOOO great and super kind. I come in to browse whenever I'm in the area and have time to spare. I always make it clear that I'm just browsing/killing time and these guys NEVER hesitate to still spend time with me, chat me up and let me demo the super high-end equipment. Wanna try headphones? no problem, they let me try six pairs for over an hour. Wanna sample $1500 speakers... no problem? Done and done. In the same visit try $22K speakers NO PROBLEM they let me sit there until I was ready to leave. On my last visit one of the owners, Dennis, gave me a tour of the ENTIRE space (even the yet to be finish parts they're going to soon expand into) he let me sample even more speakers and headphones and even chatted with me about the art they hang on the walls. He even sat with me as I wasted time listening to speakers in each room and we held great conversation. It was clear the entire time that I was just browsing! And yet he took the time to really "hang-out". As I younger guy who's budget couldn't only gain access to about 10% of what they offer I was so flattered to be treated as though I was a long time FRIEND and customer there to purchase his second $70K system from Park Ave. Dennis is a stand up guy and he seriously made my day. Had a great experience here yesterday. I recently upgraded my speakers and proceeded to blow out the capacitors on my aging amplifier. I tried out a few other amplifiers and wasn't happy with the sound quality. My research had already suggested the Rotel RA-12 would be a good option, and happily they are stocked at Park Audio. I spent an hour going over my preferences, my set up and what I'd tried, and explaining my specific requirements. It was a really relaxing and engaging experience and I felt like the staff really understood exactly what I was looking for and didn't talk down to me even though I wasn't going to spend anywhere near the high-end of their customer base. I wasn't aggressively upsold on more amplifier than I needed even though my upper bound on price was probably twice as much as what I spent. A brief price comparison suggested I got a very fair price on the amplifier as well! I hope to come back soon the next time I need some audio equipment, or maybe just to relax and hang out and listen to some music in their beautiful showrooms. read more

Walked in on a quiet Saturday morning and was the only customer in the store. The sales person approached me to ask how they could help me and I said I was thinking of buying either a bose or polk home theater sound system and did he have an opinion about them. He replied curtly they don't sell those products. And that was the complete end of the conversation. I called with the intent on buying a DAC. the woman on the phone could not answer my question which was which dacs the store sold. 5 mins later i finally got a gentleman who told me which dacs they offered. i asked which chips were in each dac and he told me he didn't know. I said " you are selling this product, you should know". he said he didn't have time to look up the specs on each device and suggested i do it myself. This is not the level of customer service i was expecting from a high end audiophile store. i explained what chip i had and that i was looking for an upgrade. again he told me to check the website for the products they offered and that he did not have time. i took my business elsewhere. read more

I'm not sure why there are a number of 1 star reviews as I did not experience any of the things they mention. Michael was very helpful and everyone there was friendly and professional. Their location is amazingly convenient, well kept, and comfortable. I tried out a few pairs of headphones and had 3 separate employees ask me if I had any questions. If anything they are too helpful! They never tried to upsell, I never felt pressured to buy anything, and their prices are reasonable. I had plenty of time to test everything and ended up loving a pair of Audeze cans. They didn't have the headphones I wanted in stock, so they had to order them. They got there later than expected, so Michael offered to deliver them to my office in the area. I didn't take up his offer, but Park Avenue Audio is everything that an audio store should be and more. If you are in the market for a nice pair of headphones, earbuds, or home audio system, then stop by here first. read more

So I gave a very generous tip and then received a giant bill for the labor. We had a very different understanding of what tweeking is, and then I got a bunch of sales jargon when I tried to dispute the charge. There's no benefit to buying here. I stopped by Park Avenue Audio on a lovely Saturday afternoon. You would think there'd be a few customers. There were none. The first questions out of the salesperson's mouth was what I came in to buy and about how much money I was looking to spend. Fair question. No one wants to have their time wasted. When I told him up to 1200 dollars for a pair of bookshelf speakers, he said the lowest price was 2000 dollars, unless I wanted to buy a floor sample. I've been an amateur musician my whole life. I know what good sound is. It's hard to believe that a store which wants to do any type of business doesn't have SOME sort of stock for people looking for the beginning level of audio equipment made by high end and or respected audio companies. If you have three customers walk out empty handed who might've bought a 1000 dollar pair, you won't even make up the loss if one customer bought a 2500 dollar pair of speakers. People can rail all they want about how online stores are killing "real" businesses. And in many ways they're right. But if a business doesn't use better business sense than Park Avenue Audio does, there is no excuse. The only reason this isn't a one star review is because the salesperson was nice enough to suggest a place I could go to buy speakers within my price range. read more

Listen, I have been buying and selling audio equipment for thirty plus years. We all know there are people who are welcoming/unwelcoming, informed/uninformed, empathetic/snobs, nice and well...not so nice. There are people who only care about up-selling or pushing whatever they want to get out the door or get the best mark up on. Rarely do you find someone who wants to listen to you and think about your home, system, needs, and budget. That is where Andrew Lorberbaum at Park Avenue Audio comes in. He is a fun, interesting, energetic, thoughtful, caring person. He lives, breathes, and loves high fidelity equipment and wants to get excited with you about all the things that matter to you - the customer. This is unfortunately too rare with many retailers. He, as we all are, is obviously in business to make money, but he is equally on your side with high ethics and high quality as the most important factors. I came in looking for a solution for a system of mine that was not going to work in my new apartment. Andrew thought about it for a good 15 minutes and then said, "Look I can give you a solution for under $1000 or one for fifty times that, and I will tell you both and everything in between, and then you decide." And he did! He came up with a great $800 solution where other high end retailers were trying to sell me $20,000 of equipment. I thanked him, left, thought about it, and came back a few weeks later to make a purchase. He was just as happy to see me even though I was an "$800 customer." We talked about music, audio equipment, architecture, kids, New York, and people who love what they do. It was a pleasure. I did finally end up radically changing (and upgrading) my system over the next six months. Andrew was there every step of the way to help me. Tracking down hand made speakers from Europe I wanted in time for the holidays, finding the exact custom cabling systems required, calling in favors from Binghampton to Bern, from California to Coney Island. He called me on Thanksgiving Day from home just to make sure everything sounded great before my family arrived. He helped me assemble the system I dreamt about as a boy: modern, refined, elegant, easy to operate, and spectacularly beautiful with incredible sound. Today I had my first full day off since the holidays and I have been listening to the system for over ten hours. Effortlessly. With warmth. And joy. Quite frankly it would never have been this good without all of Andrew's expertise, advise, kindness, and tireless support. Everyone at Park Avenue Audio were pure professionals. As I said on another review. After dumping $35,000.00 on a system in 2006 they have been rude and unprofessional. It almost seems that it's a cover for another operation. Because I truly don't know how they get any business! Every time I called for service I would have to call as least 3 to 4 times to get a life sign out of these Dead People. Then they come and say the system is antiquated and when you want to purchase new components they NEVER call back, after just being at our house and saying they will call right when they get back to their office. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Maybe that's why they had to move from the corner location on Park Avenue, into a cheaper rental space. Hopefully the next stop will be a refrigerator box!! read more
