    Handy Toyota

In the last 20 years or so I have purchased many Toyota's. I bought a new Sienna from White River…read moreToyota, at least 4 new (3 Prius, 1 Sienna) from Berlin City (NH), a used Sienna from Heritage, a used Corolla from Berlin City (VT) and now two cars from Handy. A new Prius Prime and a used RAV4. Up to 2010 Berlin City in NH was by far the easiest to work with and the best deals. Some people like car shopping and the whole experience where they believe they are making the best deal. Not me. I know what I want, I don't need to test drive it, I have no time for your BS. In the past only Berlin City would give firm trade offer and finalize a deal completely by phone or email. Then deliver the new car, pick up the trade and be done and gone in under 40 minutes. We once spent 3 hours at Heritage when we had already selected the desired used car from their website and had cash, so no financing required. Anyhow, I digress. In 2017 I had located a Prius Prime and secured a trade offer from Berlin City. I paid a deposit and then they were unable to obtain my desired car. I contacted Handy and shared the offer from Berlin City. They said we will match it and I was like, game on. I already knew if I tried Heritage, they would tell me to come in for a test drive and they would need to see the trade before committing. So I bought from Handy, September 2017. Then in March 2018 we wanted to trade our 2011 Sienna for a used RAV4 (2015-2016, low mileage). I downloaded Carfax, car gurus, autotrader, cars, edmunds and began the search. First up, Berlin City. They had an acceptable vehicle and offered $9,000 for the Sienna. The earth went on. I knew the "value" of the Sienna to be closer to $11,000 if I sold it and $10,000 if traded. My friends at Handy had a few used cars I liked and I told them I was trying to sell the Sienna for $10. They promptly offered 10, sight unseen and I was like, game on. After we had a deal in place, the windshield cracked. A big crack. I was pissed and assumed they would attempt to screw me by dropping the trade offer. They did not. There was no deduction at all. Color me happy. I'll be back.

TLDR: Handy Toyota told me they could provide me a new RAV4 Prime XSE with both a kick sensor and…read morehitch installed - the kick sensor would just be relocated, no worries. However, instead of relocating the kick sensor, they removed it and disposed of it. Now I'm out a kick sensor... and apparently they can't actually produce the car they sold me, one with both a kick sensor and hitch installed. In 2024 I was considering a new car, but only if it was the right one - information I shared with the sales person when I emailed to ask Handy Toyota if the kick sensor on the RAV4 Prime XSE worked with a hitch. Handy Toyota responded that "If you get the Toyota hitch they relocate the sensor so its nothing to worry about. Aftermarket ones wont do that." I relied on their expertise as a Toyota dealership to my own detriment, as it turns out this is NOT true. After some run around, and a complaint to the VT AGO CAP, asking them to show me where my kick sensor was now located, as I hadn't been able to work it since the hitch was installed, the General Manager of Handy Toyota acknowledged that the kick sensors "are not able to be relocated on the Rav 4 Prime" and that my kick sensor was "physically removed and disposed of at the time of the hitch installation." The only explanation I have received from Handy Toyota for why their sales person misrepresented the compatibility of the kick sensor and hitch on the 2024 RAV4 Prime XSE was that "the technology in these vehicles is complex and ever changing." It took Handy Toyota approximately six months to provide me this rationale. I have not received an explanation from Handy Toyota for why nobody reached out to me to confirm that I did not want my $340 kick sensor returned as I'd specifically requested the four blank lug nuts that my new locking ones were replacing. I paid for those, and I paid for my kick sensor. After sharing a draft of this review with Handy Toyota to contest, they made a limited offer to buy my car back; however, they still won't provide a replacement kick sensor (nor reimbursement, outside of the conditions they've stipulated) for the one they told me would be relocated, but instead was removed from my car. Handy Toyota will only provide a replacement kick sensor in conjunction with their removal of my hitch and returning my 2024 RAV4 Prime XSE to original stock as well as a refund for the hitch and installation labor determined by them, plus they'd pick up and drop off my car while leaving me with one of their loaners. I don't trust them and I won't have them work on my car, even if it means eating the costs and getting the work done elsewhere. If you are looking for Toyota sales or service, I recommend skipping this option.

They claimed my credit was not good enough which is why they got a rate of 3.99% for me at RBC bank. I have an excellent credit score that goes between 710 to 720. The only reason why my credit score goes down is because of the credit checks. The dealer also Included the transport charges and other charges for a used Demo car. I tried to resolve with them amicably but the two Assistant Sale Manager (Real Tetreault and Hugo Lalonde). I spoke with treated me so badly. Real Tetreault said he order the car to be sold as new and he said he did not want to be mean. While he maintains a cold look and a condescending attitude. Hugo Lalonde called my witness  "Arrogant". My witness spoke on my behalf because I could not explain well. My witness asks why he insists a demo car is a new car. He also walked away disrespectfully from the meeting when I pointed out that calling my witness "Arrogant" is unkind and not nice. The sales Agent Sebastien Bouchard kept insisting that a demo car is a new car and never took responsibility for the misled misrepresentation of calling a Demo car a new car on my contract. The accessories on the car are used accessories and were not my choice since Sebastien Bouchard claimed is mandatory and is written on the website that is sold with the car. The Sales agent kept telling me and my witness that a Demo car of 3367KM is a new car. The $2000 I negotiated with the Sales Agent Sebastian Bouchard to remove from the sale price. He never removed it from the final sales price on the contract. The General Sales Director is horrible. His name is Frederic Clermont. He hang up the phone on me and he would not let me talk and explain how badly I was treated by his other employees. It took a couple of back and forth tweets with Toyota Canada before he felt is necessary to call me. He called and his call did not last 3 minutes, He hang up... Instead of putting me on Toyota Finance at a lower rate, they went to cut the deal with the bank and put me on a higher rate with RBC. They make me lose the loyalty of 0.5% with Toyota Canada. Plus Real Tereault lied to Toyota Canada that my credit score isn't that good that is why they put me in the bank. I have a credit score that ranges from 710 to 720. They sold a demo car at a retail price, and did not remove the $2000 I negotiated, plus, on the contract they never indicate is a demo car, they wrote is a New car. The transport charges and PDI charges were all added to the transaction. I will run from dealing with this car dealer in the future. They are not approachable and trustworthy after you sign the contract. They will treat you like a piece of trash. They also wanted to sell me a remote starter and Toyota App for over $1000. Note the remote starter came with the car, and the Toyota App is free of charge for the next year or more. The dealership treated me in a very bad way after signing the contract, The Assistant Sale Managers are the worse. I will never deal with this dealership again. They feel happy ripping me off..

I was greeted by a very friendly staff member who directed me to the tech advisor. Nice guy trying to do his job but oh boy....I mentioned it was my first time and that I was coming from Spinelli Pointe Claire and it seems that was his cue to try to sell me every possible service. I just wanted an oil change lol. I know they have a job to do but I felt like it was fire at will. On top of that I found their prices not competitive at all. Compared to my local garage, it was down right highway robbery. Sorry guys but it was my first and last time. I'll support my corner garage guy from now on.
