So I have been supporting and enjoying all big burritos concepts since day one but I was enraged…read morewhen I heard the other day that there employs have been told that if they are feeling sick or under the weather to just get some rest and power through. I'm not sure if this is a corporate policy, but with this being flu season, I would think a they would take every and any step to keep not only their entire staff but their customers safe from being exposed. I have been a corporate manager in the same industry in the past and this type of management enrages me. I have also heard that are told if they are having mental or hormonal issues they should deal with them on their day off. Im not sure corporately who manages the managers but they really need to do a better job at appreciating their employees and customers and the city that has made them a possibility.

Big Burrito aka Big Catering did a superlative job for a reception I organized this spring. The…read morefood came from Alta Via in Fox Chapel, and it was delicious. Robin at Big Catering helped me select menu items, understand quantities and prices, and confirm all details. I asked for the food to be delivered and set up (we did not need servers during the reception). The delivery arrived exactly on time, and setup was perfect. The guests enjoyed the sight and aroma of the beautiful buffet. The delicious selections encouraged people to sit and chat, and then wander back to the buffet for another helping. We received many compliments about the wonderful food. Everything was packaged sturdily. Our family was able to take very tasty leftovers home and enjoy them. I highly recommend Big Burrito for catering, and Alta Via for menu selections.

For $35 a person, we got a ton of food with delicious Tea Forté tea and a lovely set up with the cutest cups, plates, and teapots. They do high tea on the second Sunday of each month. Calling and making a reservation was super easy and they worked carefully to cater to any allergies or food preferences our party of 10 had (they switch up the menu each month!). They took my credit card information down ahead of time on the phone so all I had to do was sign the check at the end of high tea. There's also a large designated parking lot for patrons on an adjacent block. They took the time to show us their outdoor space and I can't wait to come back and check it out when it's warmer!

There's also a courtyard at the back and it seems like a fan favorite during warmer months. Great selection of pastries and bite size sandwiches. Not to mention, their amazing tea section and of course the beautiful tea cups. Overall, very generous portions. If you're looking for more than just a Hi Tea experience, they also cater to your event needs. The lady mentioned they've hosted fundraising, business meetings, weddings etc. can't wait to come back for more hi teas!

We didn't, but somehow got lucky snagging seats at the bar... which honestly turned out to be a perfect spot to eat too! The beet salad was SO good I could've easily ordered a second without hesitation. I had a self-proclaimed Reuben connoisseur with me, and he declared it the best Reuben he's ever had (second only to his own, of course ). It's not your typical version either--no standard Thousand Island overload. The corned beef was perfectly peppered and packed with flavor, and even the bread stood out. Fish tacos? Absolutely a yes. Fresh, flavorful, and just done right. We split sides--tater tots for one dish and the homemade chips for the other. Always go for the homemade chips here. WOW! They had this subtle sweetness that made them seriously addictive. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and food that lives up to the hype. Totally worth it! One quick heads up: there's a 3% fee if you use a credit card, so plan accordingly.

What an improvement over the tiny little order-at-the-counter spot with the free wine and rickety folding chairs! The food was good before, and it's still good, but the place is now a full service, upstairs-downstairs cozy spot. We had fried pickles, a sunshine salad (as a side salad), and a couple of hot dogs--the bacon dog and the Picklesburgh dog. Pickles were a tiny bit greasy but crunchy and substantial. The side salad was absolutely delicious with lots of textures and crunch, both acidic and a little sweet all at the same time. I would order it as a dinner salad for sure. I didn't try the bacon dog, but my husband liked it. The Picklesburgh dog was a delicious mess--truly, it was so messy--but it was crunchy and salty and briny, and totally worth ordering next time I'm in the mood for a dog. I shouldn't have waited so long to go back to Brick and Mortar; I'm glad we finally checked it out.
