TriMet was having major issues today. Long delays. First time riding the green MAX. We sat on the…read moretrain between stations waiting on a backed up schedule to clear. Had to get off a green that was taken out of service, get on a blue, just to catch a green again at Gateway, a main hub. After arriving at this station, the tracks were switched so it was confusing. There was a heatwave too, so waiting on the platform was really toasty. Luckily things were back to normal for the ride back. It is a nice station though. Clean and with signage that matches the right trains on a regular day.

Let's paint this town orange!…read more After five years of planning, Milwaukie is now all about the Orange (Line). I don't think I've ever seen such excitement in downtown Milwaukie. Streets were closed, the Sunday Farmer's Market was open on a Saturday, it was free comic book day and folks in character costumes wandered the streets. There were food carts, live music and orange everywhere you looked to celebrate the long awaited grand opening of the Orange Line to Milwaukie. Kudos to the event organizers. This is the main station in the downtown area. There is also one more station further south where the line terminates on SE Park Avenue and that station has a large parking structure. The biggest difficulty here were the traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. I don't think they are timed quite right just yet and hopefully they'll make adjustments to help the flow of auto and foot traffic around the station. But, aesthetically it is nicely designed with some cute sayings printed in the concrete like, "On trains we stand shoulder to shoulder." I hope the businesses in the area get a nice little bump in business.

I will stay here when rooms are booked at McMenamins and since I have a trailer, why not. I personally like this place. It's clean, it's quiet, and the people are so kind (employees and residents). I love watching the people walking by with their dogs. I feel like it's a doggy parade. I do appreciate that everyone follows the leash rule and keeps their doggies on leash when walking them. It just makes it safe for other dogs. We have stayed on the creek side only but I may venture to the river side next time. One the creek side it is quiet. I know the river side is closer to the I-84 so I am curious how much louder it will be. I guess I may find out this summer. I definitely recommend staying here when you have something going on at Edgefield or honestly, just stay here just because it's a great place.

There isn't any parking lot but the orange bikes are stationed here. A few businesses like Nike have employee shuttle vans that pick up and drop off here. On one side of the station is the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. The trail entrance here is paved and many people enjoy walking this trail. On the other side is a drive way where the bus and vans stop.

There aren't usually many people waiting here for the bus or train, and I've always felt very safe here. Just a usage tip for the train: be sure when you get on the train at your first stop that this blue-line train says Hillsboro or Merlo & SW 158th in the appropriate train windows. If the sign says "Hillsboro," you will be able to get off at all the stops all the way to Hillsboro. If it says, "Merlo 158th" on the sign, that is where the run ends (which is near the west-side Tri_Met garage).

This is not my usual bus line but if I need to make a detour to get to downtown PDX this bus line will suffice. I really feel strange riding this bus line but when I got to do what I got to do. This TriMet bus line is strangely very popular since the 1980s hence the Kate Bush song. Now this is a Stranger Thing I can stand by. This bus goes across the famous Steel Bridge. If you miss the TriMet tram, this is a great alternative to getting to the city. If you live in the "suburbs" this bus is a rarity but a true gem to ride on. I will ride this bus line if I got the time. Only issue is that I wish it better connected people living in the "suburbs" with downtown PDX. It would be a very nice though.

I'm going to have to claim full disclosure here as my brother drives on this line for TriMet, so the "la familia" connection might have something to do with this. But like I said in my check-in comment yesterday, this bus runs from far SW Portland (up right across the street from PCC Sylvania (and oddly enough I used to live a couple of blocks from there several years ago) and ends up at Pier Park (and oddly enough just a couple of blocks from where I live now). Must be the symmetry of having lived at both ends of the line, but when I see this bus coming, I know that it's going to get me home, end of story, period. I don't have to transfer to any other buses. The drivers are all easy to get along with (especially my brother), and over the years I've seen some wonderful instances of kindness towards passengers. Sure, there are some jerky drivers, but then there are some jerky passengers, so it all evens out. One of my favorite parts of the ride on the North Portland side is that it traverses Willamette Boulevard (all those beautiful homes and view) through University of Portland (gorgeous campus) and somewhat close to the Cathedral Bridge. I enjoy it so much that it makes me forget I'm tired at times and even puts me in a better mood to go home. My brother notwithstanding, I'm a fan of this line. It gets me where I want to go and home again along with some friendliness and great views!

Once we arrived in Portland to pick up, the bikes were ready and the team walked us through them. They also spent time with us sharing some great roads to add to our agenda. We returned them in San Francisco and had an equally easy time there. We got there a little early to allow time to unpack/repack into our travel bags and once we brought the bikes in it was a quick and easy return. The shop offered to let us keep our bags there while we explored the Bay Area for the day. I recommend them to anyone traveling the West coast. To top it all off, their prices were great!
