I searched Yelp, found many salon options near me with decent ratings and then noted some allowed for online reservations... bing bang boom, I got lucky and found a spot on a Saturday night a couple of hours after searching. The confirmation of my appt was almost instant too. I met Mariam and she was spot on what I needed this evening. She asked lots of questions about how I like my hair, what I use on it, what I am looking for, etc. I'm a low maintenance hair person but still appreciated all her ideas and suggestions for how to work with what I have. We did a cut, wash, dry and style for a definitely way too reasonable price compared to similar salons downtown. I definitely recommend seeing her for any hair needs. read more

I've been to this salon twice to have hair extensions done by LaRae. Salon Rating: 4/5 stars. You have to pay for street parking but there is a decent view of the park across the street. The salon was clean. Service Rating: 1/5 stars. I've never had hair extensions before and wanted to try them since I had an event coming up. I did a consult with LaRae through text. She recommended I buy my extensions down in Portland where the shop would help match me. She recommended I buy at least 2 packs of extensions. When I went to her recommended store they were not very helpful. I bought 3 packs of extensions as I have thick hair which was A-line cut. The first time she did my tape-in extensions I'd give her 3.5/5 stars. I asked her to blend the extensions by cutting my hair and the extensions (in the front around my face) so it wasn't so obvious. She also told me afterwards that I'd only be able to curl my hair and not wear it straight. She informed me of how to care for my extensions which turned out NOT to be the way extensions should be maintained. By the time my 7 week return appointment came a handful of extensions had fallen out and those that remained had slipped. For the 2nd appointment, LaRae showed up 10minutes late. Halfway through my appointment she realized she'd double booked herself. Rather than explain to the other client, she rushed through my hair and only put 2 1/4 of the packs of extensions in, left my hair damp and she did not style it so it looked terrible. Absolutely TERRIBLE. I went to another stylist about a week later because my hair was THAT bad. I only wish I'd done more research. LaRae should NOT offer tape in extensions until she actually learns how to correctly install them and advise clients how to properly maintain them. The new stylist I found was only able to salvage 1/2 of my remaining pack. Meaning I had to throw away nearly 2 1/2 packs of extensions (about $375 worth of hair!) because they were damaged by me being misinformed how to maintain them from LaRae. The new stylist also had extensions in her salon so she could perfectly match my color. After installing, the new stylist BLENDED the front of my hair that I'd asked Larae to do and she clearly didn't know how to. The other stylist also provided the correct way to maintain and gave me a starter kit to properly maintain extensions that included: shampoo, conditioner, a specific brush, and satin scrunchies. I left a review and LaRae did refund the cost of her service without me asking but this experience costed nearly $400 in extensions that were supposed to get up to 6 installs and only got me 2. A hard and expensive lesson to learn. read more

I almost hate to write this review because I fear it might make Lynda even busier, but she truly deserves the recognition! Lynda is FANTASTIC! This was my first visit after moving to the area, and I was eager for a change that would suit the local climate. I shared some photos of myself with shorter hair and asked for her thoughts on whether to keep it long, cut it a little shorter, or go for a pixie. With a confident smile, she replied, "Let's cut it all off!" From there, we looked at a few pictures and discussed my likes and dislikes. I genuinely appreciated Lynda's honesty and assurance throughout the process. Her confidence in her craft made me feel comfortable, and I knew I was in great hands. The result? First off, I have to say I hesitate writing this review, as I'm afraid Miriam will get too popular and it'll be difficult to schedule an appointment with in the future! Miriam is the quite possibly the best colorist I've ever encountered (and I've been around!) I needed to have my hair trimmed and colored, along with some corrective work. I couldn't get an appointment at my regular salon, so I took a chance after reading the Yelp reviews for Parkwest Studio. Miriam CAME IN ON HER DAY OFF to do my hair on short notice. Who does that?? Miriam does. And she didn't rush - she took her time to get to know my hair, asked lots of questions, and got to work. She took away the brassiness, evened out my color, and gave me a great cut with lots of movement. She even recommended a great place for Mexican food (which we tried and loved!) so, BONUS! The salon itself is lovely, clean and has a gorgeous view of Esther Short Park. It's just a pleasure to go to this salon, and Miriam is now my regular stylist. read more

PW is a fantastic salon in heart of downtown Vancouver. Easy to find parking. Amazing stylists and a newly remodeled interior makes it an even better experience. LaRae is so talented with color and cuts with any hair type! She has even helped get my hair back to a sense normal after chemo curl regrowth from cancer. I walked in and set up an appointment when I was at the farmers market. I was set up with Kelsey. I also had a chance to meet her while I was still there. She was very friendly. On the day I was a little early. As soon as Kelsey as done with her other client, she greeted me. We had a good consultation on what I needed from my hair and she did a wonderful job on my hair. If the only way I would be allowed to use Pureology hair products would be to fully abide by their credo, I'd seriously consider it. This includes becoming 100% vegan. oooh... but I really like chicken.... but... I really really like the way their shampoo and conditioner makes my hair feel super light and shiny and sexy and sulfate free and smelling soooo good for days. Thankfully I don't have to change my ways just yet, which is fortunate. I'm not sure how long I'd make it honestly. My hairdresser recently went on maternity leave I figured I'd just wait until she returned to get a my cut and color done. But when I walked by the mirror and went "AGH!" after seeing the state of my curly locks, I realized I needed help sooner than expected. I've never really been the 'girly-girl' type so to find a new hair stylist and get what I wanted done is just terrifying to me. So I've spent the past few years walking by Park West when I'm out on strolls during lunch at work. I figured I'd see if I could get in sometime in the next month, it was always busy so they must be doing hair well. Surprisingly I got an appointment that week which I quickly accepted and crossed my fingers that all would go well. It was amazing. Seriously the most thorough cut and color I've ever had... Jo did a spectacular job and was fun to chat with during my 2-1/2 hour appointment. I'm terrible at small talk, especially with people I don't know... and hate those long awkward silences that always come up. Park West is in a great location, just across from Esther Short Park in Downtown Vancouver. It's a fun environment of 8 stylists and a nail technician. I had an appointment on a Saturday afternoon and it was fun to watch people on their way to the farmers market and other events stroll by the storefront window. Though a little more expensive than other places, it's a worth every penny from consultation to drying and tweaking. And lest we not forget that glorious shampoo..... Park West was my salon for years. My mother and I first met the owner a long time ago, before she opened her own salon (about 20 years ago now??) and we were excited to hear that she was starting up her own. The location she found for Park West is absolutely amazing with a fantastic view of Ester Short Park, and flanked by delicious coffee and restaurants. The ambiance inside is fantastic. Stylish, comfortable, flooded with natural light and full of chatter. The best, of course, is the stylists. Joni is an amazing and talented hair stylist and her team of artists continue to amaze me every time I visit. I'm in Seattle now, but my mother still goes in for her monthly appointments. Every time I see her, she looks young and fabulous with flawless hair! A note on price: It's true that the prices at this salon are a little higher than the competition. BUT you get 110% of what you pay for. The products, the service, and the final result are all worth the extra time and money. Keep up the awesome work, Joni & crew! I hate to give such a bad review on this place because of one person but if you decide to go here make sure to do your research. I had LaRae as my hair stylist for the first time. She wasn't very friendly, she was talking to other hair stylist while doing my hair. She seemed very distracted and like she didn't want to even do my hair. I had told her I'm getting my hair done because I'm getting married this month, she said "oh it's going to be beautyful " " I'm really excited for how it's going to look" she did not take before and after pictures and I'm assuming it's because she new she did such a horrible job on my hair. She messed it up so bad that I will have to get my hair done AGAIN before I get married. This will mean three times in a 30 day period! So after I had it done the first time about three days later I stayed to notice how horrible it really was. It was so choppy, not blended and the color turned out really gross looking. So I contacted her and told her I wasn't happy with what she had done, and I asked her to fix it. She did not reply to me for days... so I contacted the manager and told her what had happen and sent her pictures. She said " I can't believe she let you leave like that!" I asked her if I could have a refund so I could get it fixed some where else. She didn't not want to refund me.. so she said that she could reschedule me with "the best she has". Currently I am still unhappy with the color and how much blonde the second lady had to do to try and "fix" what larea had done to my hair. I had told both of them I want a balayage done. My hair looks nothing like what I wanted. I'm so disappointed in this place for how they messed up my hair and didn't want to just refund me for what happen. I recently relocated to Vancouver, WA and I've used Yelp for all kinds of things. Restaurants, doctors, places to get my nails done and to shop. But by far, the most nerve wracking decision I had to make was where to get my hair done. For the majority of my life I've had the same hairdresser who just happened to be family. So going to someone new is always a challenge for me. Luckily, as soon as Frank called me back from Park West, I knew I was in good hands. I had scoped out the joint a few days before my appointment, enough time to back out if I didn't like the look of it. It was a bustling business and all the people leaving looked pretty darn happy. Definitely a good sign! So I showed up a little early for my appointment, introduced myself to Frank, and sat down to wait my turn. Just watching Frank he looked competent and able - like he knew what he was doing and I felt immediately at ease. This was helped along by the fact that he is the nicest guy and totally easy to talk to. This made the whole experience, along with AWESOME color, really fantastic. I've been going to Park West for a couple years now, and I love this salon. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because the only service I've used is a hair cut by the BRILLIANT BRITTANY, so I can't speak for the other stylists and services. But the location is terrific, great people watching, (Esther Short Park is right across the street, there's lots of foot traffic in front of their terrific view), the people who work there are friendly, accommodating and know their stuff. I have crazy hair - curly on the bottom and straight as a stick on top, and Brittany is MAGIC. Every time I leave I feel that I've reached a new hair style nirvana. I got an appt with Jolena, and she did a thorough consultation and went to work. My haircut and color looked fantastic when she was done- their prices are similar , if not less, than JC Penney and the work is 100% better. So I am always turning to yelp for help and Parkwest Studios got great reviews. So I decided to give it a try. Now mind you my son hates haircuts and I am gunshy after a few bad ones. But we decided to give it a shot. Katy met us with a smile. She was so personable and professional it put my son and I at ease at once. My son loved his haircut (which is very rare). So I decided to let her cut mine. She did a fabulous job. I have gotten so many compliments on it. Katy is a wonderful hairstylist that takes the time to know what you want as well as what your hair can and will do. She did an amazing job. I will definitely be returning to her. Ps Not only is she great at cutting and styling hair she is a blast to talk to and get to know! If your reading this, thanks Katy! Oh PSS The one person that said it was a horrible salon is well....not all with it to say the least...and some people just aren't. Really unhappy with pretty much everything about this salon. I went in for a first time haircut. My old stylist moved so had to find a new place. I got awful bangs that are nothing like what I asked for an a blunt horrible cut. I am typically pretty easy to please too I have long hair with lots of layers. Trim it up and good to go typically, I don't ask for much. Also the stylist put NINE products in my hair which is crazy it was so greasy and heavy when I left it had to be washed which is a bummer because typically its nice to leave it styled all cute for as long as possible. She also talked me into purchasing a product for my hair that I was allergic to, I clearly explained what I could not use and she was insistent. I used it once and got hives all over so went to return it. She said that would be no problem, I had to return to the office three times to return the product because I was told no one working the first two times was allowed to do sales or returns.
