Parlor City has been a staple since I was a kid. It's not uncommon to see a line of cars going down the street for some of their ice cream or fresh hot food similar to what you would get from a fair (but lots cheaper!). My favorite is a vanilla crunch kone! read more

Boyfriend and I love to stop for ice cream anytime we go outside of our "home base" area. We love to stop at mom & pop/small business to support :) My boyfriend likes to do this thing where he overestimates how much ice cream he & I can eat, so he was convinced we should get mediums, but I said smalls, and I'm glad we did. I got a small twist ice cream and it was yummy! Not as chocolate-y as other places, but I didn't mind! My boyfriend got a small hot fudge sundae & was also yummy (had to sneak a few bites in). Both were plentiful and yummy and enough to where our tummy's didn't hurt on our drive back home. Their drive thru was busy but they were working fast to get their ice cream orders out. Great place to stop for frozen treats. They really have a huge variety, and it was hard to decide what to try. My husband tried a pineapple shake, and I had a green apple slush whip. I would highly recommend the slush whips. It may sound weird to mix a slushie and ice cream, but it is one of the most delicious things I have ever had in my life. I moved here from another state, and this is the first place in Iowa I have seen that has a slush whip. We did not try any of the savory foods, but they also had a menu with burgers, tenderloins, coneys, and appetizers. The prices looked really good on these items, so I'm thinking it would be a nice, cheap place to stop for a lunch as well. read more

Friendly service. Always a long line of cars. If you want to park and eat outside you can...They even have a bug zapper. There is no dining inside. I have never had their food but their ice cream is the best! Why go to Dairy Queen when you get larger portions and better prices with a smile. Dont change anything, I go here somtimes twice a week! They have a different flavor every week or so between wildberry, black cherry, coffee, irish cream, strawberry, peach, raspberry, lemon chiffon....I think those are most, if not all of the flavors, but I may have missed one or two. Those are just the flavors I've had... :) I'd skip the food menu and stick with all the yummy frozen goodness...we tried a couple of things, bbq beef sandwich & corndog. Our favorite place for a quick ice cream. They serve soft serve ice cream. I love the drive thru. It's easy and quick. They also have hamburgers, hot dogs, and other fast food items. My daughter got a large strawberry cone. It was huge with strawberry swirl. I got a banana split. It was huge, enough for two people. $6 for our order. Very reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful if you have questions about flavors or food. A great neighborhood place! When we stopped by today, some kids were eating outside on the tables. They had their bikes and were happily eating ice cream cones. I love that this place can be a neighborhood spot for kids to have fun and ice cream. There is also a Subway in the same strip. Stopped by last night during a SUPER busy hour, but my family and I managed to beat the rush. Lots of people had already piled into the drive thru, so we decided to step outside and stand in line before other people got the same idea. I had a "monkey tail," which was a frozen banana with chocolate. It was great and cheap -- $1.75!! My family had ice cream, also priced very inexpensively. Overall, we had a great experience here, from customer service to quality of the food. The only downside was the parking -- we could barely find a spot to park, and it was horrible getting out of there because the drive thru line took up the entire parking lot space! I have been coming here for many years and after trying other soft-serve ice cream businesses, this is the one I always go back to. It the only place that consistently makes a good soft-serve treat. Parlor city is a locally owned, much better version of dairy queen. The sizes are bigger, the prices less and the quality of the items are much better. They also have a weekly frozen yogurt flavor that is also very tasty. I've never had their food items so not sure about those. read more

Good Food Made Bad By Terrible Customer Service I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED BY ANY SERVICE PROFESSIONAL AS POORLY AS I WAS TREATED BY THE MANAGER OF PARLOR CITY ICE CREAM. This past Friday evening, I ordered a meal through the drive-through window at the Parlor City location in Marion, which I took home with me to eat. After a few bites, I realized my order was incorrect and immediately called the restaurant, intending for the situation to be easily resolved. Three days and several phone calls later, this simple mistake, which anyone is capable of making, has not only been left unresolved, it has been made far worse for one very specific reason: Terrible customer service by an unbelievably rude manager by the name of Sarah. Sarah's mistakes included: Wrongly accusing me of not originally asking for what I claimed was missing from my order, and when I stated I had a receipt with the missing ingredient itemized on it, she then stated that I was at fault for not immediately returning to the restaurant and exchanging the product. Additionally, Sarah stated that she had already had a conversation about the error with the Parlor City owner, Angie, and that Angie would not be calling me to discuss the situation further, despite my request for her to do so. It's too bad. The food--despite not being what I ordered--was still pretty good, and reasonably priced. But it was nowhere near tasty enough to prompt my return to Parlor City after this experience. I remain FLABBERGASTED over the degree of rudeness this manager, Sarah, demonstrated over what was and should have been a very simple fix to a very simple mistake. Interestingly enough, when I tried to call the other location to see if I could speak to the owner directly, the number: 319-393-4867, was out of service. At least, according to the two different phone lines I called from. They must not want mine or anyone else's business very badly. read more

Parlor City is a great place to take the family for ice cream. They have a very wide selection of cones, sundaes, shakes, and other frozen treats. They also have a limited amount of hot food, which I've found to be good too. In comparison to fast food places, their prices can be a little on the pricey side, but that's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. Despite the fact that they are all the way on the other side of town, this is our "go-to" place when we're in the mood for ice cream. Because they are so good, be prepared for a line at both the window and the drive thru, but they are fast and efficient and the lines go pretty quick. read more
