I was walking around Downtown Cedar Rapids on a cold drizzly day looking for a warm lunch. After about 20 minutes nothing that was listed on Yelp looked inviting until I passed by Debs. It wasn't until my second pass that I decided to give it a go. My recommendation is come on in!! Special was homemade spaghetti with garlic bread. Yummy!!! It hit the spot just like moms. The iced tea was perfect. Very clean place. Nice Midwest hospitality from the two woman working there. It's like having lunch at mom or grandmas. I'll come back again. The ice cream is divine and they have all kinds of different flavors, it's hard to choose sometimes because they sound so good. They even have a Happy Hour where the ice cream is $2.99 for two scoops, so you can get any two scoops for that much money every weekday from 2-3, which is neat. Go check this place out. read more

While walking around the downtown farmers market we were about to start melting from the heat when we saw Deb's Ice Cream shop. Kelly's son was immediately excited about this, but not as excited as I was. Kelly had the Kitty Kitty Bang Bang (oreo's and strawberry or raspberry in vanilla ice cream), Jackson had Chocolate, and I had the Amaretto Cherry. Mine was really good and Kelly said hers was as well. I made it almost all the way to the bottom of the cone without it dripping. I was so impressed with myself. The service was pretty good, they weren't very busy considering the farmers market right outside their doors and the sweltering heat. Downtown Cedar Rapids is sorely lacking on dessert options, so Deb's is a nice find. read more

Had already eaten lunch and since I had the kids with me (seriously, when do 16 year olds ever get full) and we decided to stop in for a scoop. Imagine my surprise! First of all, it was "Naughty Hour", two for one on scoops of ice cream. I love a bargain! Two scoops for everyone!!! Secondly, samples. This is a great thing, because there were so many different flavors of ice cream I couldn't decide. There was a dark chocolate named Zanibar that was so dark, it looked like black velvet. It tasted just like a dark chocolate truffle. Amazing! I really can't comment on the food, because I've only been back for the ice cream. I work downtown, so Deb's is a great "treat" place. Go for happy hour which is daily from 2-3: 2 scoops for the price of 1. I have had the pistachio ice cream and the rainbow sherbet. Do not eat here!! I was overcharged $2.49 based on the menu hanging in the window, the prices in the dessert case and a hidden upcharge for the bread for my sandwich. When I asked for an explanation regarding these issues, the owner said, "Oh yes, we are running a shady business here. You just need to eat someplace else from now on!" After that she refused to listen to my complaint and walked into the backroom. This is clearly unfair business practice and I strongly urge you to avoid patronizing this establishment with your business! read more

I am giving this business a 1 star rating because of the way customer are treated. I went in to buy a breakfast sandwich and was waiting to pay when another customer walked up. This customer had called in an order, however I had already been standing waiting to pay for my sandwich, and the owner of the business rang up the other person first. This is not the first time I have been treated poorly by the owner of this business. I have been told if I did not like what she had to say to me I could take my business elsewhere, Well guess what? after today I surly will. Can't speak for their food but I loved their ice cream. I made note of their 'happy hour' and planned to come back between those hours just for fun. My husband had never been there and one day we were out running errands and decided to stop in for happy hour. Once we walked in, we realized we were about 15 minutes early- so we decided to just sit at a table and chat for a bit before the happy hour began. The girl behind the counter yelled to our table "Are you seriously waiting for happy hour????" and then laughed uncontrollably so every patron could hear her making fun of us. I said "yes, we are" (with no smile) and she said "Oh my god, that is the funniest thing I've ever seen.. I've NEVER had anyone wait for that". It would have been one thing if we came in and made a big fuss about needing to wait for 15 minutes-- but we were sitting at a tabling chatting and just passing time-- we hadn't even said anything to the staff. I think it was extremely rude of the girl working (not to mention- embarrassing) and we were ignored by other staff members after this girl went over and told them that we were going to WAIT until happy hour. I really love their ice cream but I will think twice before going back. Looks like from other reviews that I am NOT The only customer to receive attitude from the staff at Deb's. read more

First time there was a truly bad experience. We thought we would order the SPECIAL. The nice waitress behind the counter told us it came on white, but we could choose any bread. I chose a croissant. We got a side with the special, and my friend opted for the soup, and I opted for fruit (in place of the macaroni salad it came with). The special was $6.25 each. When we were rung up, the total was almost $17.00. When my friend said that the total was wrong, the owner gave him a lot of attitude, and said that the croissant was $1.00 extra and the fruit and soup were extra since we substituted. We were never told this upfront, and would have gladly paid the extra had we known. But we felt deceived and mislead, and to make matters worse, the owner gave us a lot of attitude when we questioned it. She told us that we ordered the SPECIAL, it was called the SPECIAL for a reason, and if we changed things in the SPECIAL, there was a price to pay for it. It was a very negative experience all around. The food was good, but the experience did not allow us to enjoy it at all. After talking with friends on Facebook about it, we discovered that this is a common experience! A lot of people have been treated rudely by the owner at Deb's. We will not be going back. read more
