Rick's made my graduation cake, a custom princess cake, over a decade ago and so I was so happy to see this was still an option they offered. Aside from the cakes Rick's has so much to offer. The store smells like fresh waffle cones and they had fresh baked brownies when we came in. Highly recommend the brownies esp when freshly baked. We ordered a few of the specials: the "Caramel deLite" (like the Girl Scout cookie), the Homer (pink frosting), and the blueberry special. The CdL and Homer both had plain yeasted donuts as their base. Warm and light, they were soft in the middle with the slightest chew. Like many of the shop's offerings, the flavor and sweetness came primarily from the toppings. The Homer in particular tasted of almond and cherry. The blueberry was a seasonal special: cake donut with blueberries in the batter, and topped with blueberry icing. The flavor was unexpectedly fruity for a donut. A surprising treat! I plan to head back next month to see what new creation the shop has in store.

I ordered four bagels: two Asiago, one Chilli, and one Spinach, along with two plain sides of cream cheese. I waited more than 30 minutes for my order to be toasted. While I was waiting, I saw one of the employees putting cream cheese directly on one of the bagels. I immediately pointed out that I had asked for the cream cheese on the side. Another employee then told me that the order being prepared was not mine. I was reassured that my order was still coming, so I made the mistake of not checking the bag before leaving. Once I got home, I discovered that the Spinach bagel was missing, and one of the other bagels had cream cheese on it--even though I had specifically requested it on the side and had been told that the order I saw being prepared was not mine. After waiting over 30 minutes, paying for food I didn't fully receive, and getting an order that wasn't prepared as requested, I felt completely ripped off. With so many food businesses struggling or closing, experiences like this make me wonder why customers would continue coming back. At this point, I certainly wouldn't miss Einstein Bagels if it eventually closed permanently.
