Granted the weather was not great, however they did not deliver things within their control. They charged us well close to $300 to end up in cold tents, being fed a "VIP Dinner" that was a $3 burger wrapped in foil. No refreshments. Not a single trace of Valentine's day decor of any sort. The weather was in the low 40's and tents were supposed to be heated, however they were not, so we froze the entire time we were there. A few of the other guests and I were commenting on how much this resembled the #fyrefestival. None of our money was refundable either. What really frustrated me was that while they were telling us due to the weather the balloons would not go up, they were still selling non-refundable balloon ride tickets at the entrance. If this is not a robbery, I do not know what is. Don't ever support this organization or its events! Also, their events purposely have it set to where you are not able to leave comments because there are sooo many people who have also been scammed out of money. Today, on May 13 we went and paid $5 entry per person (not for the child under 2) and $2 per…read moreplastic bucket, we bought two, (both filled was about $50 on top). We filled both buckets with mostly ripe delicious strawberries. The kids still need to refine their picking skills. We then got snow cones, brisket and sausage. The kids played and had cotton candy. This was an extremely fun 3 hour activity. I was surprised to find so many delicious ripe strawberries this late in the season. In the end we spent a little over $100. The snow cones were super delicious- actual shaved ice. There are amazing photo ops and I took beautiful pictures of my kiddos. There are several fun pockets and experiences on this farm and it's very kid friendly. As a mom, I'm always having heart attacks because kids love to do crazy stuff, but here I felt very relaxed. Next time I would have them wear mud boots (our tennis are caked with mud). The strawberry fields weren't extremely muddy, but there were pockets of mud out there. We are eating the strawberries and my toddlers are thrilled and proud because they collected them. I just need to get a jam recipe to make this day last a few months. My 2 year old was free. $2 for a bucket (must use a Froberg's bucket for picking). We bought 2 to share among the 4 of us. We filled both close to the top (close to 6 lbs total). I'm not sure how much it cost per lb since I didn't pay, but i think it was $5/lb. Credit card does incur a 3.99% fee. We also bought some bbq: brisket sandwich, hotdog with turkey sausage and jalapeno sausage, Arizona green tea, bottled water, and 2 sausages to-go (jalapeno pork & deer sausage and regular sausage). It was a lot of food actually for $48. We also bought some baked goods to-go (especially enjoyed the oatmeal cookie, chocolate cookie, and pecan pie) . Cookies were $1.50 each or $12/dz. The medium pie (about 4 servings) was maybe $6-7. Being a Friday, there was not much to do at all because all the rides, games, and food trucks only run on the weekends. I guess it saved us money at least bc everything cost $3-4 (tokens). We still managed to stay 2 hours (it made our 1 hr drive worth it) because we ate the bbq at the shaded picnic tables while my 2 year old played on the playground. It's a small playground, but it had her favorite things- swings, slides, and a tire tower to climb. She had fun. I may go to Blessington for the pumpkin patch this fall (based off reviews), but fruit picking is pretty fun here.

This is the second year we've come here in May to pick blueberries and blackberries. One of the…read moreworkers said that blueberry season is really a short 4-6 weeks time frame while blackberries are most of the summer. This year 2025, the blueberries are sweet but on the smaller side. The blackberries were not as good as some of them are tart or even sour as some seem to start fermenting? However in 2023 the blackberries were soooo sweet and juicy that even my husband liked them and he usually doesn't like blackberries. Maybe this year just wasn't good for blackberries. :/ The busket (basket bucket) is $1.50 and berries are usually $8-10 per lb but they ran a Memorial Day weekend promo for $4 a lb. We filled up our busket about 2/3 of the way for 2.7 lbs or $11 in blackberries and blueberries! Cheaper than Costco! Although it is a 45 min drive for us. Giant sunflowers were available too but all the wildflowers were picked already. Things to bring: Busket - if you already have one! Sunscreen - protect your skin! Hat - it's sunny! Water and a refill of water - it's HOT and you easily drink through 2 water bottles, plus if you use any to clean your pickings. neck towel / fan - nice to have I would also consider looking for a parking spot in the shade, usually to the left by the Farm Funland. I also put up our cars sunshade which helps too. This time, my 4 yo said her car seat wasn't that hot (whereas she will usually complain if it is), so i think jt worked! We only spent about 1.5 hours though from 1030-12noon, as it was getting really hot and the kiddo was over it. Overall, fun experience and some good berries but do come prepared for the heat!

Reason enough really but then I learned that if you volunteer you get free beer. Free beer?! I'm all in. After volunteering now three years in a row I've learned there is more to this than beer. We raise funds for needy organizations and have fun doing it. Wow. Back to the beer ... there are hundreds of different taps, bottles and cans of craft beer to be tasted. From the big names like Ballast Point, Dechutes, Shiner and Goose Island to the Houston favorites like Buffalo Bayou, 8th Wonder and Karbach. Most of the brewers have their pro staff nearby to tell you more about there brewing process and some of the subtleties of that blend which you may not pick up right away. Kinds of hops, barrel wood and water source aren't often written onto the can ya know!? Live music is played on two stages while people walk from booth to boot and sample. Other booths have t-shirts, mugs, and other fun stuff for sale. Many of the sponsors have booths set up with deals at venues like Top Golf, Remax and so forth. Food? Man there are all kinds of food stalls available ranging from my favorite the Venezuelan "Essentials" to my second favorite which serves lobster rolls. Held in the small town of Hallettsville, TX, the Kolache Fest is a cool and tasty way to have a…read more fun day. There's lots to see and hear as well as many delicious things to eat! The Kolache Fest is held at the Knight of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville., TX. It consists of games, arts and crafts booths, a classic car show, live polka music, dancing, a BBQ judging, food demos, a Biergarten and of course kolaches. The kolaches are provided by Kountry Bakery. As we drove past the restaurant itself we noticed how packed it was. After trying their kolaches at the festival, we can understand why it was so crowded. The kolaches are great. We wanted to try them all. Kolaches are sold at the festival by the half dozens and available in fruit varieties, cream cheese and as they call them, "pig" (sausage) with and without cheese and jalapeño. The events themselves are held at various times and offer something for everyone. Besides the above listed events there are many more - too many to list! We especially liked the food demos and the crocodile show as well as the classic cars. The live polka music and bands were talented and put on a lively, toe tapping show. Food items for sale are homemade by some very good bakers and benefit some well deserving organizations. Homemade sweets make any event that much better. There is lots of seating in a covered pavilion with huge ceiling fans that give relief from some of the heat. Hallettsville is a small town and this event has a big turnout so arriving early is the best way to ensure good parking although the lot is large. A trivia bit we learned is that it is the only town in the world with the name Hallettsville. It has the friendly, welcoming, small town type warmth that isn't always found within they city. If you like good food and friendly festivities the Kolache Fest is something you'll enjoy.
