Significantly more. I came for turtles. I like turtles. The park itself is lovely, but the turtle-to-sign ratio is wildly misleading. Feels a bit like a marketing campaign. A ruse, if you will. My boyfriend was so excited about the possibility of turtles. Then there were no turtles. Thanks, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. You made my boyfriend cry.

Parking is plentiful and there is also bathroom facilities on the property. Safety is also monitored by a park ranger who drives a pickup truck.

My contact at the town, however, told me that the grassy area used to be a parking lot years ago and most of the amenities were added within the last ten years. There's resident permit parking right out front and metered parking just across the street. As you walk along the sidewalk there are colorfully painted Adirondack chairs -- two per -- under umbrellas. And a shade pavilion with chairs. At the beach entrance are various signs with information. No dogs are allowed nor is cigarette smoking on the beach. The park is open 7 am - 10 pm. There's a display with life jackets hanging from it in case someone needs to borrow one. And some info re rip currents and water safety. Two shower towers are at the entrance, too. There are bottom water spouts for washing the sand off your feet after the beach, as well. One of the nicest things was the beach access path. There are two entrances to the beach and one is covered in a hard mesh -- perfect for wheel chairs or wheeled carts or if you have trouble walking. I took a short walk out to the beach itself. It's wide with clean, white sand here. Mid week it wasn't busy with visitors. Talk about a "chamber of commerce" picture! I couldn't resist taking a short video. We truly live in paradise and this park proves it.

Plus there is sort of a path that goes around the park (if you include the regular sidewalk on one side). There are a lot of nice trees, but I would say there is about 50% shade coverage. So for me that may not be enough. But for others who want to use the facilities and don't mind the heat, it could be nice.

The neighborhood was formerly part of the Twin Lakes CDP, but Twin Lakes North was annexed into Fort Lauderdale in 2005. This park is only a quarter of an acre which makes it a pocket park. Pocket parks are generally less than a half acre in size and can have different amenities for the public. This type of mini park arose from a desire in communities to have places for kids to play instead of another building or wasted vacant land. Thanks to the Fort Lauderdale Parks Bond Program this park is looking great. The voters approved an increase in taxes in order to pay for park improvements throughout the city. Three hundred thousand dollars were used to improve lighting and install a new shade covered playground by Burke. The park also has a water fountain, walkways, benches, and tables. Twin Lakes North Park is an inviting play space for children but it is also a great place to picnic outside. Note that there is no parking or restrooms.
