We've been with Seahorse Academy for 4 years. We've had all our kids in their swim lessons,…read moreincluding one of our kids who has autism with limited verbal communication. We tried community pool classes previously, and though our kids learned swim skills, they found the group experience more intimidating and less engaging since the instructor's attention was divided. Growth felt slow. Even though the classes accommodated our son with autism through having 1:1 special-needs helpers, the inconsistency of aides and instructors made it challenging for him and us, so we took a break for a season. It became stressful for all of us, and he wasn't gaining much skill in a group setting. Four years ago, we had a summer vacation planned that would involve a lot of beach time and swimming, so we felt the urgency to get our youngest ones water safe! They liked being in the water, but didn't have any basic safety skills mastered yet despite prior group lessons. We found Seahorse Academy, and thankfully, a couple spots opened up not long after being on the wait-list, and we have done private and semi-private lessons regularly ever since Seahorse was at the Bend golf club. Amanda has been so kind and encouraging and welcomed all our kids, including our son with autism. It was a relief to see her patience and care for him. She got to know each of our kids, met them at their level and kept lessons fun and engaging while also guiding them to gain skills and confidence. Our older kids did the swim team once they mastered skills, and our younger ones continue to take private lessons. Having the same instructor each week who knows them has made a big difference in our kids learning and maintaining skills. Thankfully, Seahorse's location on Greenwood has been more convenient for us, too, and we appreciate Amanda's attentiveness to keep chlorine levels safe and the pool clean. There's always something fun for my kids to play with or engage in while they wait their turn for lessons, plus changing stations, bathrooms, and a shower. Swim lessons like theirs can be pricey, but it's been a worthwhile investment in this season toward their safety and building an important life skill.

She finally responded when I held off paying an invoice, and rather than acknowledging the delay, she responded dramatically and defensively, made ridiculous accusations about my intentions, and abruptly removed my daughter from the schedule entirely. Despite my request for a conversation to repair/start over, she once again never responded. I had prepaid for my son's next session and was owed several makeups from Amanda's own cancellations (which I had also reached out about multiple times), but given the hostility, we decided we'd rather walk away and absorbed the loss. I later learned from other local parents that experiences like mine are not uncommon. Before enrolling, I'd encourage prospective families to read reviews carefully and also spend time on the website itself. Even the FAQ page, written by the owner, should give you pause.

A great elevated tee shot with incredible views all around. Finally my Third favorite hole, (actually a tie since I birdied them), 17 and 18. Call ahead on before the turn order your drink and or snack. The club house staff, and pro shop staff are all just top notch. The nicest and friendliest golf staffers around! As a below average player I thought the course was fun and challenging, and somewhat forgiving. The greens were hit and miss for condition, some were great others beat up. I'm not sure if its standard but they let us have a free bucket of range balls to share before our tee time - nice! As we went to get our carts, they were turning them around quickly (spraying with water), one was soaking wet yet the young lady seemed miffed we asked for a towel to wipe seats down. The 9th hole was a train wreck for me - it dog-legs left; what you can't see is that it splits after that around a water hazard; you'll have to choose the 'high road' or the 'low road' lol. Recommended, i'd love to come back and play all 18. On Memorial Day it got pretty stacked up; relax, its golf and its a holiday!

Fun fact--The course is the most ecologically responsible course in Oregon. It was created to utilize waste water. That said--and on a related note-- there are 9 ponds and a river that meanders through the course. Not to mention 62 bunkers. It's studded with weeping willows and other trees, but not a ton of shade and the trees are not your biggest hazard (the water is!). The front 9 made me feel like a good golfer and the back nine (hole 13-watch out!) whipped my fanny. We opted to walk the course as it's fairly flat. It took us 4 hours to play the course at a leisurely pace. The course wasn't busy. The staff was very friendly as were the golfers! Ron's Comfort Cafe is a good place to get a breakfast burrito or a bite before or after hitting the course. The food is about like you'd expect from the name. Good beer selection. Staff is very friendly. I highly recommend a visit to this fun, beautiful, challenging course.

Literally were meeting and having conversations with the groups in front of and behind us as we bunched up waiting to play the next hole. The front nine we saw the Marshall three times and he was trying to move people along. The back nine, he must have just given up because we never saw him again and the play came to a bear stand still. The course is fine and in good shape. Everyone was friendly but they really gotta space people out better. I know it can be a ripple effect but we were with two other groups at the first T . Just ridiculous.

Played the Nicklaus course for the first time on a sunny, fairly warm Saturday. One of two courses…read moreon the property - the Fazio being the other - Pronghorn Nicklaus gets rave reviews from Central Oregon golfers. COVID protocols: Only fair. They have the usual mask requirements in the pro shop but don't even attempt to enforce them on customers. Staff wear masks but the snack bar folks aren't so good on wearing them properly. The most egregious failure in this regard was the starter's insistence that golfers riding single in carts pair up because they didn't have enough carts. I was OK because my group was a threesome and I got the second cart. Other area courses seem to have enough carts on hand. Pronghorn is a high end operation - during these times of a pandemic they need to respect social distancing practices and provide more carts. - Richly designed course but with awkward yardages off the tee for short hitters, even from the gold tees, and a lot of hazards. Course plays harder than the rating, I think. This is not a track where high handicappers - particularly short hitters - can hope to score well. - Greens are in good form and roll fast and mostly true. Not as super smooth as I expected but it's early in the season. Some holes cut such that being above the hole meant little chance of stopping it close. - Fairways decent with few bad spots. I thought the grass was cut too short, though. Most of my fairway shots were from a tight lie. - Being in the middle of high desert sagebrush country, that's what you'll find if you stray off the fairway: sagebrush interspersed with lava outcrops. Best to stay out of that. - Quite a few water hazards, including a hole where the stream to the right is hidden from view of the tee box. One par 4 has a huge piece of water between the tee box and the green, tempting long hitters to drive the green. Mere mortals must hit to the fairway on the left, carving out however many yards they think they can carry. - So many bunkers. Way too many bunkers in fact. I think the course is protected well enough from the layout, water and sagebrush rough to not need that many bunkers. Many are quite punitive with high lips. Sand was average for a public course. You won't be able to hit PGA-quality sand shots out of most of them but you can generally get out. - Carts are very nice, electric, onboard GPS (which occasionally erroneously declared I was at the wrong hole), and super comfortable seats. No complimentary tees in the cart - you need to grab them from the starter's box. No complimentary white towels. - Cart path layout is good. Although the course twists around on itself a bit, there are directions signs aplenty. - Beverage cart showed up quite often and it wasn't even that hot of a day. - Complimentary range balls but the range itself is a bit small for a two-course operation, at least as defined by where the range balls were laid out. They could have opened it up more. Same with the practice green and practice bunker. All were a bit crowded. - Slow round - about five hours. I saw not a single marshal on the course during the round. I think the slow pace was due to course difficulty, not slow players. Still, I expect to see a marshal patrolling the course. - Snack bar closed at 3 pm, which is ridiculous, especially on a good weather Saturday. Why only three stars? Price, and unreasonable difficulty. I frankly don't think the golfing experience is any better than at Widgi Creek or Juniper or even Crooked River Ranch. Yet Pronghorn charges way more. The course is also too difficult for me. Golf is one challenge after another, of course, but my round was punctuated by quite a few well-struck shots that still found trouble because of extremely narrow target areas. On several tee boxes, I was faced with no good shot. At one par 5, I had to hit a hybrid off the tee because my driver couldn't carry the sagebrush feature plopped in the middle of the fairway. I can't not hit a driver on a par 5 and hope to avoid a double. That's not a rewarding challenge. 180 yard par 3's from the gold tees are also not welcome. As another reviewer mentioned, Jack Nicklaus prides himself on making golf accessible to the average golfer. He fell short of his goal at Pronghorn Nicklaus.
