So thoughtful and tailored the tasting to our specific flavor profiles (granted, it was a slow Monday afternoon, but still so generous of her to listen to our requests). Had a really nice time tasting at Parsonage recently! While tasting rooms are plentiful in Carmel Valley Village, apparently big bold reds are not, that is unless you come to Parsonage. Unlike most of the tasting rooms in town, they offered two red only flights. The two flights were the premium, which offered 4 tastings and the reserve, flight which had 3 wines. Since there were two of us and I'll take any opportunity to try new wines, we did one of each! We let the tasting room associates know that this was our plan and they accommodated by switching up the pour order so that we could try all of the wines from lightest to darkest and were able to do a side by side of some. We came on a Saturday and didn't have a reservation, but we were able to be sat in the raised tasting area out front. The indoor tasting room is fairly small so if you are hoping to taste indoors a reservation is recommended. We had a nice little heater that was very powerful and kept us toasty outside. The tasting room associates were extremely attentive and didn't let us go long with an empty glass. They were also knowledgable about the wines and history of the winery. My favorite wine of the day was the estate pinot, which I ended up taking home with me! read more

Came here after having a not so great experience with tasting elsewhere and this place was exactly the wine tasting we were hoping for. I recommend this place for sure. Everyone working there was super nice. While bringing out the wines for us they actually told us a bit about the wine and the label. It is so cool that the labels are pictures of quilts! They have some quilts in the tasting room and the detail is just crazy to me. Anyway back to the wine, our party bought 2 bottles each. All the tastings were really good. The bdl, cyrano, the Syrah, and the wild card red wine were all purchased. I would come back to their reserve tasting next time. read more

The wine is outstanding, the people and service top notch. We came here in March hoping to enjoy a wine tasting, but unfortunately had to leave due to our son's retreat being cancelled. The women (forgot her name) was so sweet, she served us a small taste as we explained the situation (we had sat down, looked the tasting offering, etc). We bought a bottle of the Syrah 19, which we later enjoyed at home. We came just this past week as we wanted to try the full tasting and it did not disappoint. We sat on the patio as the day was breezy and warm. Christy was there that day and is an absolute delight ... knowledgeable about the wines and winery (the wines are named after the sons, the labels are quilts the mother made, etc). Turned out our families have a lot in common and it was enjoyable swapping stories. If you love bold reds and friendly service, this is your place to go! read more

My husband and I loved this dog friendly wine tasting . It was a beautiful day so we sat outside but dogs are allowed inside as well . There were 2 choices for tasting . My husband did the first which included 5 reds. I did the reserve tasting with 3 reds . I loved everyone of the wines in the tasting . There were bold reds . I had to narrow down which wines to purchase but I got the BDL which was a more everyday wine and then the Tucker Cabernet . We only paid one $30 tasting after buying wine . Beautiful outdoor seating area & knowledgeable staff. Be brave and taste the wine from the wildfire!! It's interesting & strange to learn how the devastating fire altered the flavor. A friend and I celebrated our 30th birthdays in the Carmel Valley. Our first tasting room was Parsonage, and I immediately had a connection. This is a family Winery, and everyone has a part to play. The wife makes quilts-beautiful quilts, that are displayed in the Tasting Room, both in actual their quilt form, and digital photographs (so they don't fade), in addition, they made up the wine bottle labels. I myself am a sewer, so it was neat and fascinating to me to see quilting displayed so elegantly. Such a treat, and definitely added a unique touch to the Tasting Room, that I will not soon forget. The wine of course was delicious. Reds are the way here. The best was their Syrah, and a unique red blend. Summer, the host that day, was another reason we loved this Tasting Room so much. She was such a sweet, friendly host, and we interacted easily with her. She remembered my friend who had been up to the winery a couple months before. She talked with us easily the whole tasting, and seemed to be genuinely invested in the product and devoted to the family behind the product. We were here on a Friday afternoon, so we were the only ones in for a while, she had a couple locals come in to drop or pick something up, but she never forgot we were there. Lovely luscious reds for tasting. We had to get a couple bottles of the cab-syrah blend, so balanced and deep. The reserve petit verdot was incredible. A lovely tasting experience. We did not have reservations, but we got there right when they opened and they were able to seat us. There are only 4 outdoor tables right now because of Covid, so next time, I would make a reservation. All of the tables had a heater next to them and the patio is covered. There is also hand sanitizer on every table and they are dog friendly. They have 2 different tasting flights available, and we chose one of each so we could share and taste everything. The Syrah and the blends were standouts for me. We purchased 3 bottles, which more than waived our tasting fees. read more

Had quite the experience at this joint. It was pouring rain and we went here with 8 people. We walked in and there was a small group tasting wine and we wanted to experience the same. But.....unbeknownst to us, they still have COVID rules. We were told that they couldn't sit us together due to those rules and that they didn't have room, even though there was 2 4 tops and a 6 top available!!! Never have I ever been treated like this. We were made to feel very welcome and their tasting room is positively inviting. Our somm was extremely friendly and a total pro - she handled a room full of people on a Saturday afternoon by herself with grace and timeliness! We didn't love all the wine (a little too smokey/peppery), we liked most of them and could appreciate them. For $15 a tasting which we shared (I was DD), the pours were generous and she allowed us to taste a few off the menu she thought we might enjoy. While we didn't end up buying any bottles (a tad pricey when we didn't fall in love with anything, I'd totally give them another go! read more

First visit, Sunday, April 1: Another small tasting room with some strong wines-best known for Syrah. Although I thought some of their other wines were a bit better. I visited a Second time (April 4th) with a group of 9 people a few days later...... and we had the opportunity to visit the actual winery a big rarity but something that was arranged through our hotel and meeting planner. Our guide was Frank (who is the son-in-law of the owner Mr. Parsonage) and he was very kind to show us all around the 7 acre property and allowed us to taste not only the bottled wines but also from many of the wines still in the barrel. This is a small, family-run winery with only 2,000 cases a year production. Our group had a wonderful afternoon walking in the vineyard and seeing the production area and learning about wine. We very much enjoyed their Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon/Petite Verdot blend and many other delightful selections - all named for the 5 grandkids - Tanner, Xandro, etc. The concierge at our hotel the Carmel Ranch and spa were the ones who arranged this private behind the scenes tour and it was fabulous - we paid $25 per person and tasted about 9 wines including all of their high-end bottles ($80 retail) directly from the barrel. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to go beyond the simple tasting rooms of Carmel Valley. read more

We are big fans of big, bold reds and when I saw the fantastic reviews for Parsonage's wines and the beautiful custom wine labels, we had to see just how good this place was, and we were so pleasantly surprised! This is a little family-owned winery/tasting room, though the two ladies who work there are the only two non-family members. They were kind, knowledgeable, and told us stories about the family and the artwork in the room. Parsonage is best-known for their Syrah (it is truly incredible), and their Grenache blends are also delicious and sweet, very drinkable. I have a new favorite in Carmel Valley! Parsonage is a small boutique winery that is making some amazing reds. We visited on the recommendation of another of my favorite Carmel Valley wineries. Frank, the winemaker, conducted our tasting and what a tasting it was. We ended up trying not only the rose and four reds in the regular tasting, but also the three reserve reds. I enjoyed every one of them! We ended up buying two bottles that day - the Wild Card red blend to enjoy while still in CA and the Bixby Bordeaux blend to take back to VA. I regret not becoming a wine club member, but sadly the small boutique wineries we love are starting to experience issues shipping to VA. It will have to wait until I move back home in a year or so. The tasting experience was such fun. We learned about the winery's history, the wines themselves and Mary's quilts (a huge quilt and glycee renderings of her quilts adorn the walls of the tasting room). Mary's quilts are simply gorgeous by the way. To top it off, we were offered a military discount on our purchase. I am so impressed with Parsonage and can't wait to visit again! read more

We drove to Carmel Valley to taste at this tasting room last weekend. Summer was serving, and she was delightful, informative and very welcoming. She gave us just the right amount of attention and history of the winery, some great tastes, and we left with 2 cases of excellent wine! The Cyrano-modestly priced- was delicious and will be this seasons house wine! We chose a couple of wonderful mid-priced blends and a couple of cabs and syrahs, all just great! Roll over! this is a hands down 5 stars and more! I had the pleasure of tasting Parsonage Wines outside of their tasting room and in a very casual environment at a recent charity event. I met Brian, the tasting room manager, and he was by far the friendliest and coolest wine pourer I've ever met. He had great insight into the wines and brought such a great variety that I could see how spectacular parsonage wines can be from reds to whites. Especially when it came to their Chardonnay, I was surprised since I'm not usually a white wine person that it was delicious and well balanced on the palate. Suites just about every meal! Their Syrah is truly spectacular and even my white wine loving bf was drawn into the smoothness of the syrah. I feel like Parsonage is definitely a gem, something many people have yet to discover which is why their wines are such FANTASTIC value for money. It used to be that you can only taste their wines by appointment only. Not only did you need to book an appointment but you had to know someone that knew Mr. Parsons himself. I was lucky enough to experience some intense barrel tasting that left my mouth craving more. (Thank you Hunter!!!) I ended up buying a mixed case of some of the most extraordinary wines I had ever tasted. I cannot beigin to describe the sensation that you feel when you take your first sip of their wine. After a little swirl in the glass the bouquet will just arouse your senses. One sip and then you get this amazingly smooth liquid just resonating in your mouth. Automatically you will start talking to yourself spitting out words like. Balance, Body, Juicy, Fleshy, Jammy , Fruit-Forward, Bold, Meaty, Full-Bodied, Rich, Robust... You will say these things even if you are not a wine connoisseur and you may surprise yourself and think, "I didn't know I had it in me." Honestly it is that good. I'm fairly young in a sense that I'd say the majority of people who enjoy wine have been drinking as long as I have been on earth but I used to be in the industry and I've tried wines from all around the world and LOTS of it. So I definitely do know a good wine. I mean, I think of it like this, everyone has their favorite steak house and you know how your mouth waters up when you think about the restaurant or when you know you will be visiting it shortly. Well that is the feeling I get when I see the word Parsonge. Mr. Bill Parsons has done a magnificent job creating hand-crafted wines with his family. His wife Ellen has done an extraordinary job decorating the labels with her gorgeous quilts. When you visit wineries and tasting rooms, there are a few things you should expect out of them. 1. Great atmosphere. 2. History behind the winery and different wines. 3. Ability to interact with the staff in a fun and friendly way. We got all of the above at Parsonage. Frank was welcoming upon us walking in the door, telling to browse all the local art as well as the different wines available. We were able to interact with him one on one about the wines, the history of the vineyard and how he is an integral part of the development of the wine, in a hands on fashion. It was refreshing to know that people are still 100% invested in to building a business from the ground up. The other interesting aspect of the winery is that all the wines are named after the children in the family, which coincides with the labels and artwork for all the wine labels. We all learned a lot about the winery, the family and how it came about, which was awesome. We signed up for the wine club with them as well because their distribution isn't high, but they have some of the finest wines I have tasted from the area, especially the Bourdaleis. I would not only return to this winery, but highly recommend it to anyone for a fun day of learning and tasting at a local winery. read more

I'm a self proclaimed wine snob. Living near Napa/Sonoma will have that affect on you. Anyways, I'm at my friends place and she pulls out a bottle of this Parsonage 2014 Grenache Rosé. This Rosé was exquisite- perfectly sweet with a clean, bold finish. I slurped down every drop. Fast forward to me visiting Grandma in Carmel Valley. Duh had to go to Parsonage. This cute little wine tasting room is in the heart of the Carmel Valley Village. I prefer wine tasting right by the vines but this is a great alternative! Service: 4/5 We had a lovely blonde woman helping us with our tastings. She was super attentive and bubbly which really added to our experience. Only downside was we weren't given a list of what we were tasting nor did they have waters on hand. Vino baby, Vino: 5/5 2014 Grenache Rosé: the sultan of swat, the great bambino. If you are a Rosé fan, you will love this wine. 4/5 2013 Syrah: Their infamous Syrah which has won many accolades. A big bold red with a clean finish. Though I'm not a Syrah fan, this was my second favorite wine. Decor: 3/5 Tasting rooms are never as fun as being right by the vines. Parsonage was my favorite stop on the wine trolly. I loved that they offered yelpers a free tasting! The ambiance was cheerful and it was great to see variations on the label art displayed around the room. The woman pouring shared details on the wine and answered questions cheerfully. She also offered a candied nut to accompany one of the wines which was delicious. This was not only my favorite to place to taste, but also my favorite collection of wines. Came here on a Saturday...not too busy but there was a steady flow of people coming in. The lady who helped us was really great about tending to everyone; she was super friendly but knew when to leave us alone. I loved that we can walk through the art gallery as we tasted the wines. I'm more of a white wine kind of girl but was sold on their Syrah. This syrah is a MUST try. They had us taste the syrah with some spiced pecans and omg I was really FLOORED and so impressed with this pairing. SO yum. They definitely know what they are doing as I was SOLD and ended up buying both the syrah and the pecans! And remember I'm a white wine girl. I'm used to visiting Napa/Sonoma and Livermore wineries as both are a lot closer to home. Tasting in Carmel Valley threw me off a little as the vineyards weren't right outside the tasting rooms. But don't let this deter you. Parsonage definitely holds their own against the Napa and Livermore wineries if you want to go by wines alone and not the setting. I loved this place! We were waiting for a restaurant to open next door so we stopped by Parsonage. I'm glad we did. Their tasting room neighbors an art gallery that had some paintings and some photography. The tasting attendant was nice enough to let us taste our wine while appreciating the gallery. He even poured our next taste while we were in the gallery! Their wine were all very BIG and BOLD! I loved them all, however, with just a couple tastes, you can be sure to walk out of Parsonage tipsy! read more
