Let me start by saying that Las Tiendas Courtyard is a beautiful location for an outdoor party,…read morerehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, etc. The covered patios that surround the courtyard make the location ideal for an outdoor event because everything can be moved to be covered from any inclement weather. Now, let me give a short form of my experience.. I do not live in Amarillo, so planning was a little more difficult, however, I was able to keep in good contact with the owner. In the end, there was still a ton of miscommunication. ALL I wanted was for my ceremony and reception to be small and very casual. We ended up having about 130 people, which was later considered by the owner to be, "too big of a party." My wedding party was forced to move their cars, to make room for guests, just minutes before taking pictures, causing them to get sweaty, dirty, and have their boutineers destroyed. I was urged several times to add more decorations, flowers, etc., which I did not want. We ended up having a lot of rain, so my guests had to move everything onto the covered porches. Not a big deal, until, the owner decided she was going to kick us out 2 hours before the contracted time that we had agreed upon. We supposedly got a discount, which I really appreciated, however, I now say that went towards the 2 hours that we were cut short. Several guests stayed through the storm and had a great time dancing. Because of our dancing, the owner thought we were drinking too much and made our caterer shut down the margarita machine, which we paid for and paid extra for bartenders, leaving us with several bottles of mix and tequila. The undercover police officers were actually laughing and were the least bit concerned with any behavior, but the owner lied (one of several lies) to my parents and the DJ saying the police officers were concerned. She told the DJ to only play country music, so we would "drink less." Whether there was too much drinking going on or not, we took measures to protect ourselves and Las Tiendas by having the appropriate insurance documents and hiring 2 police officers. As well as having designated drivers for our guests. Enough with the alcohol issue... We were allowed to leave everything until the next morning because of the weather, so my mother and sister went to pick up the remainder of the decorations, flowers and leftover cake. The cake had been taken, as well as the flowers. My sister was able to get the flowers back from the owner, however, she made a poor excuse as to what happened to my cake. Therefore, my wedding cake had been stolen. So, needless to say, I was not completely unhappy with my ceremony and reception, but I will not recommend this location to anyone. It's really unfortunate because this is a very cool place. If you are to have an event there, I would recommend under 100 people, no alcohol, lots of decorations and nothing other than country music. Really just no music at all!
