Do NOT go to Richard at Achor Counseling. Me and my boyfriend went to the Achor Counseling Center…read morein East providence. We had the owner and social worker Richard Figueira as our counselor for 3 sessions. He NEVER showed up for our 4th session at 10am. We waited almost a half an hour then left him a note and left. I expected at least a phone call with an apology and an attempt to reschedule. NOTHING! I even called the office about 1-2 weeks later and spoke with someone who answered and explained what happened. She apologized but we still never heard form our therapist Richard Figueira. How thoughtless and unprofessional. At first I thought his blunt straightforward style would be helpful for couples to get to the heart of the matter quickly and effectively. Instead, he was just plain negative and rude stating "You two have lots of problems that I do not know if they can be fixed." I think it's more that he is incapable of fixing anyones problems as he obviosly has too many of his own.

I've built up a great relationship with my councilor, which is why this review gets 2 stars instead…read moreof 1, but it didn't really help me too much and was hardly professional. She would use the phone during our sessions, would barely talk, and even misgendered me multiple times for months after I came out to her as trans (I had to aggressively ask her to stop, and I will say she made an effort but it wasn't too effective). I basically fidgeted with toys and talked to myself for 3 years. Never was really offered many coping skills, tips, etc. save for a few pieces of paper with activities that were clearly not aimed at my age group (saw her from about 15y-18y) mostly just had someone to talk to. She was frequently late, and quite a few time was not even there for an appointment (many times she was sick or had very good reason not to be, but no one contacted me and I ended up waiting for an hour or more) no secretary or person to ask questions in the waiting room, just a tiny window to the main office that usually has its blinds pulled. Good luck getting any help with scheduling or payment there. I went to their resident psychologist (no longer available I guess, thank heavens!!) to get prescribed medication. They did not take insurance and I spent ~2000 dollars to get laughed at and handed a piece of paper with "prozac" scribbled on it. I'm not kidding. This Dr. did not give a shit about me. She actually laughed when I told her about my past problems with drugs, suicide, self-harm and abuse, and then didn't even discuss treatments with me. Honestly, if you're looking for someone to talk to, be my guest. I only went here because they were one of the few places that accepts neighborhood, but there are many places out there that are probably more than worth the price.

I started receiving services here under another Psychiatrist who left (for another job that offered…read morea shorter commute, not for any dissatisfaction.) When they left I was going to find another Psych/office simply for the fact I prefer a male therapist/psychiatrist. When I explained this over the phone while they were trying to set me up with an appointment with Dr. Berry they said I would only have to see her temporarily until they hired a new Psych (another male to replace the one who left), so I said 'ok sure'. My first appointment with her ended up being scheduled for the day I found out my mom committed suicide, literally scheduled for what ended up being 2 hours after I found out... I'm sure that was a first for her (previously scheduled appointment with a new patient who walks in almost right after finding something out like that)- however she handled that appointment as calmly as though it has happened a hundred times before. She gave me great insight into processing what happened, while also being a great listener, and not once ever 'saying the wrong thing' which can happen when you're in that sensitive of a moment. Well, I saw her after that with a concern over a undesirable side effect of the medication I was taking and she recommended me something that the previous Psych I had seen didn't know of, that is able to help with what I need AND not have this particular side effect. I am currently still waiting for them to hire a new male Psych, because Dr. Berry's case load is too much to take on new patients on a permanent basis- but I just wanted to write this review to exemplify how I do have a preference for gender relating to this field of medicine/situation, and she was able to impress and satisfy even me! As a side note their offices are very nice and the waiting room area is very appropriate for this line of work.

On Friday I sent a follow up message in the am. No response. I called around 3 and was told by doctors Assistant that the covering physician would send over later that night. It is now Saturday, no prescription as been sent. Guess I'll call again on Monday. 8/14/22 Update They do not answer messages on the portal. They do have a new answering system that forwards call to their doctors assistant to leave a message but still no call backs. I do not understand why communication is so difficult for this company. I would love to change my primary provider; however, initial visit wait times are close to a year for other faculties. Guess I am stuck for now. While my doctor is amazing, the office staff is outrageously rude and abhorrent. When calling for any reason expect to be on hold for 20-50 minutes. When they finally get around to answering your call they will then immediately hang up on you. When you call back, should you be so lucky to get someone on the phone, if you complain about the hold/hang up, they will rudely explain it is their automated system, not the office. They have had this "automated system" for about 4 years now. I have been complaining about it for four years. No wonder they have such low rantings. They must not care about their outdated, useless technology, or are hiring shit staff. It should not take less time to drive to my doctor's office, visit the staff, drive home, then it does call waiting

Their phone system says "your wait time will be no longer than 4 minutes" and then transfers you to…read morethe primary care physicians assistant, who doesn't pick up either. You then leave a voicemail to have someone call you back. They may or may not ca you back that day. Then, they'll tell you to use the online portal to schedule appointments and message your doctor, of which neither functionality is available. The only appointments you can make online are for the urgent care center, which isn't helpful. Then, your primary doctor will be unavailable and you'll have to follow up with one of their physician assistants. I like my doctor, but their patient satisfaction needs some work here. Not a good place if you need long term follow up from a primary care provider.

This is a place that…read moresupposedly cares about others and praises mental health, well I do not think I have enough space and time to explain my horrible experience. From Judith Johnson, Ben Johnson to Lizzie Olmsted, it was just the worst experience and a very sad reality when I think about mental health providers. Horrible communication, problem for appointment, no assistance with provider/doctor/therapist......just a lot! I reached out to Judith (never heard from her) reached out to Ben j (more than once) and he did replied while after and "apologized" explaining how the clinic was working on "fixing communication" but it never got any better. No one ever called me even though I left MULTIPLE messages and the reply was an email from Lizzie that fixed nothing! I am sure not all providers are the same, but my experience was garbage and unacceptable. If you need counseling, struggling with mental health THIS IS NOT THE PLACE!!!! If the administration, office manager, CEO can not assist with something so simple...just reassures this is not a place that will think about anyones well being (knowing how important and delicate is when someone is struggling with mental health issues and reaches out for help). This is just another money making place that does not care about anything else, but their own financial growth! STAY AWAY BIANCA S MARTINEZ

I'm honestly not someone who usually writes reviews, but my experience with Marisa has been so…read moreimpactful that I felt like I had to share. I drive over an hour each way to see her and it's been so worth it. I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. If I do wake up, I can fall back asleep easily, and I'm even dreaming a lot which I take as a sign I'm finally getting deep, restful sleep. I've seen such drastic improvements that I genuinely feel like I have a new baseline. I feel so much more in control of my anxiety now and honestly like a completely different person than I was just a few months ago. It's been truly life changing. I honestly wish I could see her weekly. The closest way I can describe how you feel leaving a session is like you just had a massage; you're so relaxed, grounded, and at ease. Marisa has truly touched my life. She is genuinely an angel. She listens, she cares deeply, and she is incredibly dedicated to her clients. If she doesn't have an answer right away, she always follows up, whether by email or the next time you see her, which says so much about the level of thought and attention she gives. I don't feel comfortable around many people, but there's something about her energy that is so light and reassuring. She creates such a safe, welcoming environment, and it makes all the difference. I'm so grateful to have found her and truly can't recommend her enough.
