As an event planner, I've certainly gotten to know this location pretty well. Since COVID, however, my visits have become few and far between. And yet, I've still needed a couple of things over the last few months and it's been quite an easy process. I've done both curbside pick up and stepped in super quick to shop and both have been solid and safe experiences. Curbside is easy thanks to their website and the in store experience was quick and painless. The aisles have been widened, and there's plenty of open space to keep your distance and shop. Like many other stores, the floors are marked on the floor, spaced by 6 feet to keep shoppers apart and the check out counters have plexiglass in front of the cash registers to create a barrier between shopper and cashier. Just because we're in a weird, distant time, doesn't mean we can't pick up a few things to celebrate special occasions. I know our silly noisemakers, hats and masks made our quiet NYE celebration at home much more fun. read more

I admit that at times I'm the party pooper but this time, Party City is the one that put the poop in my droopy diapers. It's not horrible, don't get me wrong. It is huge and there is a sizable candy selection (which you can pick through either for party favors or you can buy one of their pinatas and fill 'er up). There are themed sections like Hawaii, Mexico, Halloween, Mardi Gras, etc. There are plenty of children's party stuff. But where my balloon got popped was... well... the balloon section. And the candle section. And the wrapping paper. And the streamers. Sure they had the basic colors. But nothing exciting or even all that themed. Everything felt really standard. I was looking for something a little more contemporary. I am almost better off at Target's tiny party section. I guess what I'm saying is that Party City is very Walmart/Hallmark and there is nothing special in the aisles. Everything feels pretty cheap. Though I guess if you need your Michigan State or UofM themed balloons, they've got those? And you can get your helium here, too. Even after trying five other establishments, I'm still going to search for some place that can offer some more 'adult' (er, NOT the XXX kind - just the more refined kind) party supplies. But in the meantime, if you're searching for partywares, you may want to check out The Rocket and maybe even Hollander's. They have quite the selection of party supply here regardless of the type of the party. Well as long as the party is rated PG or less anyway. They were vet busy when we came here, no one asked us if we needed help and they employees were not very cheery. If you know what you want, this is still a good place though. read more

What's a superhero without a mask? Seriously, I'm not getting deep here, just asking a real question. I was racing around trying to throw together the various parts of a superhero (well, sidekick) costume for a party and realized to my horror that I had no mask! Eeek! I have to admit I was sad when "Great Party!" closed in the location that Party City now occupies. However, I think that's mostly because my friend and I found it ridiculously funny to say the phrase "Gives great party!" when we drove by, not because it was really all that great of a party supply store. But Party City? It would beat Great Party any day of the week. Not only to you have seasonal goodies (St. Patty's right now) all the different color and themed tablecloths, favors, and supplies you might need to throw a celebration itself -- there's also a decent costume section in the back of the store year-round! So, if you need a costume of some sweet accessories or just a basic lil' mask, they might just have what you need. I left with one mask for me and several to share with my super-friends. Ordered a gender reveal package with a ballon pop that would reveal the gender by corresponding pink/blue confetti. Everything was great up until I picked up the box an hour later with pink confetti residue showing underneath the clear tape closing the big outer box. The surprise was ruined. Waited a good ten minutes while three employees ran the one register. Pretty pathetic since there were 7 registers but only one was used. There was a long line building behind me before I just gave up and left as I saw the line in front of me hadn't moved in a solid ten minutes. No employee even recognized the situation or apologized for the inconvenience. Not to mention not one single employee was on the floor during my shopping trip to ask questions to which meant if I had a question I would have waited in a long line just to ask a question. read more

I went to party city in Ann Arbor and they were way over priced and terrible quality I advise no one to go their and get balloons, their cheaper to literally do them your self. They charged us 100 dollars and forgot to give us a balloon and had to go back twice for another balloon because they were such bad quality when I got home and took them out of your car and the balloon flew away because the string was not attached enough, so over all not a great decision. it's devastating. read more

Waited EIGHT MINUTES to check out with one person ahead of me because the manager on duty, Joyce, refused to allow another cashier to man the registers. The cashier (whose first day on the register was today) was filling up three balloons and called numerous times for another cashier. Absolutely unacceptable and disastrous customer service. So I went in, not many customers 4-5 in the store including me and my friend. Looked around, well my friend got some peep thing she was looking for, took about 15 min or less. Saw 2 employees talking in the balloon area, and then wondered off to the back when we got in line. One employee at the register and a customer getting there purchases with them, she decided to talk with the customer about personal stuff, and continued to do so when we got in line. She finally decided to call for help when the line included everyone in the store. Honestly the slowest service I've ever seen, and the other employees clearly didn't care about the waiting customers or their fellow employee on her own. Kudos for the customer service at Party City!! Recently I placed a large, complicated order for balloons for a non-profit organization in Ann Arbor with Katy, an outstanding staff person at Party City. She made helpful suggestions about the type of balloon best suited for out-of-doors and the right helium fill for a hot day. She noted in the instructions that three separate people were going to pick up partial orders and that the full order needed to be separated into three and ready for pick-up after 12:30 pm. She entered everything accurately and completely in their system, and the staff delivered perfectly, including Katie ("ie" Katie!) politely confirming all my questions later before the order was picked up. I came here to buy helium balloons for my son's family birthday party. He was turning three. The store was quite crowded at this time, being the day before Halloween. After carefully looking at all the choices, my son picked out two $3.00 balloons; we waited a few minutes in line, and when it was our turn at the cash register, I informed the clerk which balloons we would like. She showed them to us, deflated, and said that it would be a "couple minutes" if we wanted them blown up. I said that would be fine, we would wait, and paid. The cashier then told to wait off to the side; indeed, there was a long line behind us, and other customers in as much of a hurry as we were. The couple minutes turned into a few, and then into several. All this time, both my son and I had been watching the counter, anxious to get our balloons. During this time, I observed the clerk who checked us out answer two phone calls, each involving questions that other staff members had to help answer, and she cashed out at least six other people who had been waiting in line. There were also two other clerks up at the front, someone who I found out later was a manager watching the long line, and two other employees continually moving from the back to the front of the store. By this time, my son was beginning to worry that the balloons weren't coming; I hadn't seen any balloon-filling action, so I walked over and tried to catch my cashier's attention. Nope, too busy, too many other customers. So I went over to the employee who was watching the line, showed her my receipt, and told her that we had been waiting a while. She called up one of the other employees from the back, went to fill the balloons, and was back with them in less than one minute. She apologized that I had to wait, saying that there were "too many other customers who need to be helped." I said that attitude was "kinda unacceptable" and that I could talk to a manager. She employee said "I am one, but I 'll talk to them because they just forgot to tell anyone that the balloons need to be filled. " I was happy with how quickly I was able to get the balloons filled. This should be like this for every customer, every time. I am not happy that we would have waited in perpetuity for our goods, or that I had to make a racket to get something that was sold to me, apparently in good faith. I am not happy that time and money belonging to other customers is obviously more valuable then my time or money, not to even mention anything about the patience of a three year old who is excited about his birthday party and who just wants his balloons. It may have been a bad day at Party City, but if they can't grasp the fact that the vast majority of their customers either are indirectly, or are related to children, they are going to lose a whole lot more business. 've been to other Party City locations with no issue, even at busy times but I will not be returning to this location until these folks have fixed their customer service, and can prioritize the desires of a small child over those of a fully grown man or woman. read more

Very rude staff, from the moment I walked in the door! Cashier looked at me, didn't smile, looked like she was having a bad day. Grabbed my basket and started venturing the aisles. Noticed a manager, who again - just looked at me, no greeting, nothing. Continued shopping, and noticed a third employee who also saw me, then glanced back to her cell phone as she walked into the stock room. Unbelievably rude. I went in on a Thursday and they told me I could not order any invites as the woman who could help me was not there. So I left my info and she called me the next day. She started out friendly enough and then when I said I had a day off on Saturday and would be in to order my invites, she told me not to come in as it would too busy! I told her I would not be able to come back in for another week so I had to come on Saturday and she said "well I wont be able to help you I will be too busy with other customers" I do not understand telling someone on a day you are open, not to come in. Very strange! She then went on to "warn me" that I would have to pay the whole thing up front -which is fine but her tone made it seem like she assumed I couldn't pay. I felt it was very weird and condescending. She then said I had to pay $7.00 per piece if I wanted proofs! Huh? The way she worded everything was like a warning- I have ordered invites many times I know how it goes and she should be more excited to help me not have a forboding and lackluster attitude. She was discouraging me at every turn and by the end I did not want to order from her. Some sales lady! I was dumbfounded at her level of customer service and ineptitude.
