Accomplice still has the typical tour around the small area of the city where you interact with amazing actors and make your way to the grand finally where you share a simple drink with your group to celebrate your accomplishment. The staff do offer a hotline to get clues if you are stuck but thankfully my group was witty enough to figure out our way through our adventure. Accomplice is also great for corporate team building activities. I've raved about this experience at my office for years and one of my teams decided to book with the show. Not only did my office team have an amazing time but buzz is going around the office about this show that another team was considering booking but business guests thought it would be too cold in November for such an event; such party poopers! I absolutely refused to see a double-day / two-part play show format 5+ hours to be left hanging and return another day/time as it was originally produced, but this has changed which prompt as my reason to see it years later in 2026. This Broadway play does not play John Williams' film score "Hedwig's Theme" as I had desirable hoped. I do believe in magic. I saw Tom Felton perform his originated role as Draco Malfoy from the film franchise. As per "New York Theatre Guide" Tom Felton reprise his role as adult Draco Malfoy now through January 3, 2027! Run time: 2 hours and 55 minutes, with one intermission. One word: WOW! The narrative was at first somewhat difficult to follow especially the Time-Turner Effect scenes of what exactly did Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy changed or prevent from occurring? The set design, staging for quickly moving set, props by swirling long robes without revealing stage hands' faces, costumes are great and resonantly brought the viewer into J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter world as an adult nineteen (19) years after J.K. Rowling's final novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The special effects including character swap Polyjuice Potion, including Dementors menacing floating near the audience and aerialist stunts in duels were amazing. I particularly like the special effects from Time-Turner for use of projection mapping high-powered projectors cast warping, liquid-like visual distortions; acoustic design low-frequency sound waves and the entire set appear to bend, stretch, and ripple effect like a disturbed puddle reverberating into the auditorium. The clocks placed in the corners of the stage spun recklessly rapidly. WOW. Voldemort's half-daughter leaves "invisible" scribbles on a bookshelf to be decoded by a black light above the audience visible on the ceiling and balcony facade projected throughout the auditorium walls in an eerie shade of green which garnered a lot of oohs from the audience including myself. Oh! Hot air emitting from Scorpius' ears after he eats candy is very comically humorous. The narrative does include and bring back old characters as the cruel villain, apathetic Dolores Umbridge and the wailing angst Moaning Myrtle and ill-fated Cedric Diggory. Moaning Myrtle's costume was not true to the book as her hair is not in pigtails and she is not wearing the Hogwarts uniform. Moaning Myrtle is depicted as grayed out who is a ghost. Draco Malfoy's iconic film line: "Scared, Potter?" and Harry Potter's response "you wish" are spoken resonate an echo in this Broadway play from the film. Instead, Yasiin Bey arrived in a more poetic and experimental mode, with the intellectual intensity and Rick Owens aesthetic of an artist still pushing forward. Arriving by subway and seeing that incredible Apollo sign glowing over 125th Street immediately made the night feel important. The theater felt more like a temple than a concert hall, with its deep red interior, velvet seats, and intimate layout bringing the audience remarkably close to the stage. I remember sitting in the auditorium thinking about how many legends had performed there and how much of the music I listened to every day had passed through that building. Throughout the performance, the crowd listened with such intelligence and appreciation that the evening felt almost like attending a class inside a concert. Yasiin Bey was cerebral, theatrical, and willing to challenge expectations, while the Apollo audience completed the exchange with its focus and responsiveness. Sitting there felt sacred and deeply moving, as though I had entered a living tradition rather than simply visited a famous old theater. Years later, my fortune had changed dramatically: instead of power lunches at Casa Lever on Park Avenue, I was schlepping couches into fifth-floor walk-up apartments in Harlem. After one job, as a snowstorm began, I passed the Apollo on my walk to the subway, and its iconic sign brought back a happy memory from before my capitalist world collapsed. On the 6 train downtown, I thought again about how honored I had felt to enter a place so central to Black music, New York, and the culture that shaped my identity.
