Never a disappointment. We came in to file our 2020. Yes I know 2020. We was late filing but due to we had to find our paperwork cause we missed placed it. But I'm glad we did this late. Question #1: "Craig, why in the world do you drive all the way from Fullerton to Lynwood--grafitti-laden Lynwood--to get your taxes done?" I get that one a lot. And, true, the area surrounding Pascual & Associates is run-down, tired, and scarred. But although that's ultimately subjective, I highly doubt (with all due respect) that that would be challenged. Question #2: "Hey Craig, are you telling me that even with a scheduled appointment, you may still sit in their foyer [it's a house converted to a business] for at least an hour before you are helped?" Yes. Yes, I am. They get busy...very busy. There are at least 30 chairs arranged for those patiently in wait. But these are the instances where your cell phone apps or a book comes in handy. Plus, there is a big screen TV--that shows nothing you would normally watch--in case you become antsy. Question #3: "Um, did you say that you always buy your preparers an entire cheesecake or two when you file? You're kidding." I'm not kidding. I do that too. This year it was "Banana Cream." It's tradition at this point, I guess. I do that every year. I appreciate them: I appreciate their hard work in order to work hard for me. I mean, look, this isn't H&R Block we're talking about. Pascual and Associates know their trade. They are a family business, and their knowledge concerning current tax laws and their impact upon their clients' filing is extensive. I completely trust them. In fact, even after previously filing years earlier with another firm, Pascual & Associates helped me re-file after finding deductions that had been missed. And this place offers assistance year-round. They are always ready to help. So the area isn't spectacular. But maybe one needs to look closer. You see, this is what I enjoy, and many enjoy: uncovering that "hole-in-the-wall," excavating that "diamond in the rough," celebrating that "silver lining." My dad has come here for some time to do his taxes so naturally I started coming here when I got my first real job. Apparently, the business is part of the owner Liberty's house and they sell bangus (milkfish) and vitamins as well. And Elvis is everywhere lol. The wait can be long since it gets busy during tax season. Admittedly I dozed off while waiting but it was partly because I worked the night before. I would gladly recommend P&A and ask for Arden. He may be young but he is smart and knows his stuff. He helped me a lot on my 1099 and helped me file it with ease. Before P & A I simply got around! I wanted security and in my quest I came across different types that just took my money and wouldn't even return my calls. So one day I was telling my coworker about an audit I was facing and how my tax preparer wasn't responding to me. She gave me the # to P & A, they were extremely helpful and resolved my issue. They always give me feedback on what I can do to prevent paying or to increase my refund. They are helpful and knowledgeable staff that respond to emails in a timely manner. Yes they usually have a full house, but they will take care of you. Liberty is the main Boss lady and she usually does a final check on the spread sheets before they are submitted to make sure her people are on point. Honestly, I don't know if this lady was willing to help me or not. I came to her office off of a recommendation and I was disappointed by not only the office but the person that recommended me as well. It was my first time filing without being claimed and instead of helping me understand what was going on with my taxes they pretty much left me hanging. I waited outside the home/business for almost 2 hours. They communicated with me maybe 3 times throughout the time I was there. This was about 2-3 months ago and I just got a letter talking about my form keeps getting rejected like I'm supposed to know what's going on. These people didn't help me at all whether learning about taxes or doing my taxes. I bet turbo tax would've provided better customer service. A former roommate introduced me to this place about 5 years ago. Yes, there can be quite a bit of a wait even if you have an appointment. Yes, it can be challenging to get an appointment, especially on a weekend. Yes, it seems like the surrounding area seems a bit run-down. But all that didn't really matter much as I liked the tax person (Denise) I worked with and the price for getting my taxes done were reasonable. I got my taxes done here for a few years even after I moved to the East Coast. So why am I not a fan anymore? Well, I got audited by the IRS last year. And of course, given that these folks were my tax people, I naturally turned to them for advice on the appropriate response and clarification on what paperwork to send to the IRS. They lagged a bit on responding to my calls and emails during the process and I had to follow-up a couple of times before getting a response. I know they tend to get busy, so I tried to be patient. But what really got to me was the level of unprofessionalism, bordering on rudeness, that I received during the correspondence. If you are being audited by the IRS and being sent all these letters with tax jargon, chances are you can get a bit confused and would request clarification from a tax professional. Which is exactly what I did - requested assistance from the place I had gotten my taxes done. Maybe I sent one too many emails asking for clarification on the latest letter, but looking back on my emails I don't think I did, and furthermore, I thought I was polite whenever I did ask. So getting an email back in all caps that says "jUST READ THE LETTER IT TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO" - doesn't really sit well with me, especially as I don't particularly enjoy having the IRS questioning me. Thankfully I didn't have to deal with this tax place much longer after that message. Maybe my experience was a fluke, and you may have a great experience if you decide to go to this place, but based on my last experience, I decided to find another tax person. read more

Let me just say to the guy who first reviewed this place. A++ for your review, glad I looked at Yelp. Now for my review I live in Lynwood and wanted a place to do my taxes and didn't want to wait forever to get them done. I saw this place on Yelp and thought why not? Location: This place looks like a house but if you go inside it looks like a tax prep business complete with coffee, water, and Philipino tv station. And yes it is Philipino owned and ran =) Wait: The wait was not that long. You do have to fill out some forms for their records an also your wages and stuff just so when it comes down to them helping you all out they have everything pretty much figured out. Service: I got serviced by a young man named Arden and don't be fooled he knows his taxes! He answered every question I asked and was very patient and respectable with me. I even probaly asked him the same question twice but he always had an answer and helped me understand my taxes and how I could lower them for next year and even saw stuff I could do that are deductible. Overall I payed about $100 for filing my taxes which is ok but charged me $25 just to fill out a education credit page. Next time I could probaly do it online for cheaper now that I know how to do it. I would also come here again if I don't feel like doing them myself and will gladly pay them as they did an excellent job. Hint: Have your W2's, tax receipts and things you are looking to deduct all there with you so it is easier for you when you have the forms when you first sit down. ALSO and this is a big also don't park in the parking lot on the corner with all the shops. You will get towed. I was their royal client for more than 5 year. However, they just called me and accusingly told that my bank check was bounce because bank account was closed. I totally forgot about it and thought I used another bank check. I normally use a check any more, but always have one copy with me just in case at hand. I just kept the wrong one! You know, this was not intentional. I agree with paying by credit card, of course. However, the daughter of the owner said they will charge double fee due to commercial bank which I cannot totally agree with. I feel that this is not fair to be charged double amount. My original amount was $190. Now, they claim and charge $380 by saying this is legal and posted the notice at the office. Even they posted, I didn't recognize that part. If so, I totally didn't agree by a check. I was informed that they will charge extra $2 for a credit card payment, and decide to pay a check. That was my mistake. I claimed to consumer affair because I don't think this is fair to charge double amount by law although they said this is legal. In addition, their way to treat a royal customer was very bad and rude. Only one time mistake for a bounce check, they treated me as a felony. This was their first call to inform about it, then they mentioned this is a collection. They were totally not patient by us not pay any penny. Their mind was only $$$$. They didn't care about their clients at all. I insisted to talk to the owner, Ms. Pascual. I expected a bit better behavior from her because the daughter said they are in business for 40 years. However, her way to take care of their clients are the same as her. I was totally disappointed and of course no longer use their services. No wonder, even just before the Tax date, there were no many people in the office. I recommend not to use their services for sure. Who agree with pay double amount of money for the bounce check!? They got extra profit from that by excusing a bank charge. I insisted to show m the bank charge receipt, but they didn't listen to me and just say I can deduct this fee for next year Tax return. I've been coming here for some years now, and it's always the same problem.... Having an appointment is worthless. My appointment time was at 10:30a... I'm still here waiting to be seen 2 and a half hours later. I understand it's busy and they have a lot of clientele but what's the point of making an appointment if they're not going to honor it? And then they're offering me to leave my paperwork and they'll do an extension? What about the 2.5 hours (and counting) that I've waited? Also, why are the last 2 tax preparers I've had the past few years not work here anymore? Update: I'm not Filipino but I understand some words: they just took in someone with an appointment at 12p before me. Update 2: My appointment was with Liberty and now they're putting me with someone else and they're putting someone that arrived after me with Liberty. And their reasoning? Because their taxes are going to take longer, so that means that me as a client do not mean anything to them. read more

So had an appointment with Susan Pascual at 10 am, got there 20 min early fill out a form and began to wait 15 min after 10am I ask where was Susan and they told me that she would be 5 more minutes, after 20 min more i told them what was going on and then when they said that she was running late due to traffic. At this time i got the feeling that they knew all this time. They told me she would be a half hour late if I could wait another 30 more minutes, if they would have told me she was running late when I first arrived then I would have probably would have waited but they didn't, they just wasted my time. If could give a negative star rating i would but one star will do. Unfortunately traffic is not an excuse when you live in LA you just have to be a little more prepared and professional when you have a business. read more

I came here for my taxes, they sent the paperwork by email so I could fill it out ahead of time so once I got there I was taken sooner then later, my lady Gigi answered all the questions even if it was the same and we kept going around, she was very kind and caring and well knowledgeable which one should be when it comes to taxes. It's a family owned business but I would prefer Gigi yet there are more people who work there. The only thing I hate is the area, HORRIBLE PARKING. At least now they have a "valet". It's very hard most of the time to find parking. read more

I never had problems with this place until Gigi did our taxes. I usually go to Harold or Alex to do my taxes but they were both booked. So we were placed with Gigi. She is not a nice person. We ended up owing a lot in taxes and she didn't seem very helpful. She said in order for us not to pay what we owe again, we should give more taxes on our paychecks. We didn't do what she said and finally the next year came, we owed a lot less than by having someone else do our taxes. Gigi doesn't smile and she doesn't care. Plus this place has no parking. With Gigi, she charged us $185 to do our paperwork. Going with someone else the next year for taxes, I was only charged $75. read more

Please "DO NOT" waste your time reading the "5" Star Reviews... Please read the "1" Star reviews so you actually know that the Pascual & Associates Tax Preparers are VERY Unprofessional and here's why: 1. It doesn't matter if you make an appointment; you'll still have to wait as long as an hour or more - example: Drove (3) hours (2x's) and still had to wait an hour for an "Appointment" this is totally unprofessional! So, if you have a Disability be prepared to be in their house office for hours. 2. You had better check your Tax Return information 100% once they complete it... We didn't check our tax return information after the Pascual Team completed it... We later found out from the IRS that the information they submitted was "WRONG" and we've been fighting with the IRS and FTB all year because our info was incorrectly submitted by these people. 3. You "will not" be able to reach these people. They "do not" answer their phones and your lucky if they read/reply to your emails. Last resort was to send them a Letter. 4. Didn't correct our wrong tax information even though we showed them that they had wrong information on it. 5. We finally gave up dealing with these Unprofessional People, that work out of a house in a sketchy neighborhood. Lastly, choose a Tax Preparer like you would your Doctor... Find someone who is Professional and someone you can trust, rely on, and sees you in a timely manner too! read more

If I could give another star I would! We were SO impressed with Pascual & Associates and would recommend them to anyone looking to get their taxes done. It was our first time and were referred from other clients of theirs. When we walked in the place was clean and the people at the front were so friendly and welcoming. We made an appointment in advance and didn't have to wait long at all once we arrived. We sat down with a gal named Christine S and let me tell you she was awesome!! She was very friendly and could tell as soon as we started getting into our paperwork that she knew exactly what she was doing! She guided us through all of our paperwork and was fast and efficient. Aweful place with aweful people. All they want to do is get you out as fast as possible even if there are mistakes on your taxes. I went in just to fix my form because several numbers were wrong, one amount was over $1000 off. When I pointed out each number her immediate response was "but then you'll pay more taxes," she didn't want to change it, and made me feel like I was in the wrong for wanting to put the correct numbers. After a $125K MISTAKE, I am not coming back. Arden prepared my taxes in 2012, didn't complete a home sale worksheet. Even though, I provided what I had. Contacted Liberty, when I received first letter in Sept 2014, she said she would take care of it. Also when I faxed/called with the IRS letter, she stated 'oh look at the mess you did.' I said, no, I provided what I had, it was Arden's fault. Gave her all info that she needed. Come in Dec 2014, received a letter from IRS stating I still owe $125K! Contacted Liberty again, she said she resolved it. Asked if I received all her papers that she SUPPOSEDLY sent to IRS. Said no. Second time I gave her all info I had given her the first time. (Even though if she had filed it in Sept, she would've have to pull up records and re-submit, not ask for info all over again.) This time I asked her for email confirmation and via mail. She said I had to pay for my own mail to be certified to me, even though it was their mistake!!!! I said I wasnt going to pay for it. She then hung up on me. I called back cause I thought I got disconnected. She stated, why did you call back, I already spoke to you. So she DEFINITELY did hang up. Rude B...... This place is not focused on their customers. There are so many clients, they just want to get every last person in to collect their $100/$175 per client. Don't go here unless you want to get screwed over by Liberty and then have to deal with the IRS. read more

Mayu- maybe you shouldn't of written a bad check. I would feel the same way the business feels if someone wrote a check to me and it bounced because of a closed account. It's a small business not a huge corporation. Besides writting a bad check is against the law and paying double the fee is a lot cheaper than paying the price of what the court may oppose on you if it was reported. Would you rather have a crime on your record? I certainly wouldn't. Other than that, this company is family owned and they take care of you that way. They don't do any advertising at least I've never see any, they seem to rely on word of mouth. If a company can be in business for 40 years as the Mayu had said than that says a lot. I've had my taxes done here for many years and I understand that prices may go up but I am willing to pay the increase for the level of service I receive. Like the previous review said, it's not H&R and it's not about the tax preparation fees, it about the level of attention and care they treat their clients.
