Love this beach, and so does my pup. People are always friendly, and the beach is small enough so you don't have to worry about too many pups. To me it's very clean and a great place to let your pup go leash less.

This little piece of dog friendly beach is not bad at all. Let's see, parking is in the street a hop, skip, and jump away. They extended it. Before it was only a little corner. Now it occupies more space on the intercoastal. It's a small beach and dogs are not crazy on top of each other. It's nice not to be on the crowded side, so it's so very peaceful. We could easily social distance on a Sunday. Happy that it's around so we can relax and have our Mocha Coconut by our side!

Bring your own poo bags and water! The beach is lovely. It was not overcrowded around the 6 o'clock hour. The water gets deep just several feet from the shore. Be careful if you bring a child that is not a strong swimmer. Parking is expensive ($20) paid through the mobile parking app, but your on Pass-A-Grille! It was a little embarrassing not to be able to clean up after my dog, Coke. Dug a deep hole and pushed the runny mess into the abyss, then covered it with fresh powder. They had a poo bag dispensary, but it was out :-( I should have brought bags!

Super cute dog beach! The address may be a little confusing, but it is on the "canal" side of the road, across the street from housing. Parking is available on the street - you must pay. My dogs absolutely loved this beach and it made it worth our visit! The water is clear and gorgeous! Many people here take their dogs off leash, so I wouldn't bring my doggie unless I knew they were okay with being approached by others. Overall, they had a great time! :)

Nice little dog beach. Close to the people beach, where dog are not allowed. Nice place to watch boats. I don't think there is water here. There is a pole that holds poop bags, but on this day it was empty (7/4/2019). Merry Pier is a little to the north, where food and drinks can be found. Bottom line: I don't own a dog, nor live nearby, but if I did, I would likely frequent this spot.

Beautiful beach for off-leash romp! P-A-G parking difficult on weekends; not so much weekdays. Great destination & finding this beach made us all happy!

Not many dedicated dog beaches in Forida. This is very cute and our dog had fun running. A hint on the directions It is located between 1st and 3rd but on the canal side of the island. So if your at the public beach side drive around to the other side or you could walk. If your at the dead end of the island your there but probably on the wrong side of the water. On a side note we asked a local about dog friendly restaurants and she recommended a couple. One was the Warf but in fact it is not dog friendly.

if the beach is just to busy 'this is very close

The beaches were absolutely beautiful with soft white sand and clear Gulf water that looked straight out of a travel magazine. Even though it's a popular park, it still felt peaceful and relaxing. One of the coolest parts was how much variety there is here. You can relax on the beach, bike the trails, go kayaking, fish, camp, or explore the historic Spanish-American War-era fort. Walking through the old fort while looking out over the water was such a unique experience and made the park feel completely different from a normal beach destination. We also spotted wild Nanday Parakeets flying around the park, which made the whole place feel even more tropical and unforgettable. Seeing bright green parrots while standing near the ocean was definitely not something we expected. Everything felt very clean, well maintained, and easy to access. Fort De Soto Park is the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire day and still not see everything. We would absolutely come back again and highly recommend adding this spot to your Florida bucket list. Check out our video on our socials @reessroots

Lots of pavilions and different areas for activities like camping. We were there for a spikeball tournament. Always something going on!

Being that it's pretty much at the tail end of Snowbird season there wasn't many people here. I liked all three beaches I actually saw zero dogs at the dog beach. Guess it was just bad luck. North Beach had some people spread out. I was only there for about 30 minutes. My favorite was the east beach which had next to nobody and was extremely quiet. Also had the barge which I took a picture of. At least the beaches were relatively clean and you could sit on the sand for a while and hang out. Very calming, peaceful, and serene.

Our Aussie loved making new friends and everyone we encountered at this beach was incredibly friendly. Our dogs even made friends with another tri-color Aussie while we were there. There are lots of shells to find and collect for the humans and the sand is no where near as hot as Brohard Beach in Venice. We didn't have to put our dogs' boots on to protect their paws from the heat, so they got to free roam and have more fun. I think with the location and the calmer waters, this beach gets a lot more fun wildlife sightings- right before we got there a pod of dolphins and a manatee swam by. And while we were out in the water we had a baby sting ray swim past us. Brohard was also a lot busier than Fort Desoto, so it the laid-back atmosphere was nice. Fort Desoto has an enclosed dog park, but I don't think it had separate areas for big/small dogs like Brohard does. (I am not 100% sure on that since we did not use it, but it appeared to only be one large fenced-in area.) Fort Desoto also does not have a designated pet wash station like Brohard does, but we stayed until sunset and let the dogs air dry as best as they could and then rubbed their fur down with towels before they got in the car.

The hiking trails are great, the kayak launches make it easy to get out on the water, and the observation tower is a must--climb to the top for an awesome bird's-eye view, including the Sunshine Skyway Bridge showing off in the distance. There are plenty of picnic spots, plus a pavilion with nearby restrooms (always a win). And if you're looking for photo ops, this place delivers--nature shots, family photos, you name it. We've had ours taken here more than once. No matter if you're exploring, relaxing, or snapping pictures, Emerson Point always has beauty waiting around the corner. There's even a welcome center near the pavilion to get you started.
