Visited here with an old friend and her family who used to live in the area. They discovered we had never visited it and suggested we visit there for a luncheon/cookout and birthday. Several of her family members and her five (5!) children. It is a beautiful place, well laid out, plenty of parking, gorgeous views and dedicated to all veterans, so a special meaning for me as a veteran. With beautiful, covered areas for grilling and eating, lots of paths for walking, jogging, and dog walking. A huge playground for children, which made for hours of fun for the kids. Plenty of parking all around the lake. A nice dock for feeding the ducks and fish, not sure if they allow fishing or not. A nice workout area with lots of different exercise equipment. Plenty of war memorials for veterans and families of veterans. Several areas of names of local veterans that served. And really nice and clean restrooms for after a couple bottles of water. Most impressive though was the placement of a combat jet lifted high in the air. A beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable park nestled right off a main road. Just watch the GPS carefully, it's a small road leading in. We missed it but the jet caught our attention and we turned about. read more

What a wonder piece of Heaven! Today it's chilly and windy but a perfect day to take a bus load of kids with a lot of energy to the park. We come here and they play. While they enjoy the playground equipment for all ages, I get to walk the trails and enjoy the lake and pond views as well as the historical war memorials! One for each branch of service. Marines, Army,Navy & Coast Guard! An awesome tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for America's freedom! I really enjoyed this park! Wasn't overly crowded. There were a lot of shaded parts and a lot of sunny parts as well. There are two dog parks here- one for large dogs and one for small dogs. I really appreciated that they have it separated. The entire trial is about a mile long. There's a nice walking path. Only thing was that it's quite close to a major roadway, so it does get a bit noisy with cars. As side from that, I really like this place! Will be back for sure. read more

Freedom Lake Park is the park that has the jet fighter plane on display and a Korean War Memorial. It's located just east of US Hwy19 in Pinellas Park. The park has several features: a dog park, community planter boxes, covered outside fitness stations, fishing, picnic tables and a big playground for the kids. On the day were were there, some guys were sailing remote controlled sail boats. It was something to see. Those guys were good! The park and the playground were clean and tidy. The Korean War Memorial area was quite impressive and moving. The only downside to the park is that it can be a bit challenging to get there. Thank goodness for Google Maps! You literally have to go through a retirement community to get there. Watch out for the golf carts! You will not regret the effort to get there, though. It's a beautiful park. read more

Super bummed. Came here very often in the past with my doggies and we had a blast. We used to love walking the trails around the lakes, and the dog parks had lots of terrific views. Unfortunately, not this time. We got there and I wondered why cars were all parking toward the front of the park. I soon saw why. A good half of the park is roped off for "piping restructure" which makes most of the area inaccessible. That means no dog park, no walking near the memorial plane, no walking around the trails...just access to one or two pavilions and a shorter path and that's it. My dog and I went as far as we could go, but that wasn't much and there was nowhere to let him off lead, so we had to leave. Hopefully things improve soon. read more

I had my sons birthday party here and reserved one of the two shelters online (which was free to do!) Gorgeous park, awesome playground mostly in shade and bathrooms close by and next to a lake! Sounds perfect, however my only problem was all of the homeless people gathered there (right next to the playground) charging their phones. I understand if you are homeless and need somewhere to be, but it really freaked me out. Some nicer than others. Garbage everywhere and needed to be cleaned up in the shelter and overflowing garbage cans. Last thing, during my sons birthday people dressed up as furry animals had a meet up there...no they were not hired and if you need more info on them like I did...look them up... Great place but I won't be coming there by myself or with my girlfriends without my husband. read more

The only issue I have with this beautiful fun playground is that the playground isn't fenced with a lake being so close. I was afraid one of my toddler grandchildren was going to get hurt or drown if they both ran in different directions. read more

This park is ok! My first impression is that I love the Air Force air plane on display! My second impression is that the entrance to get to this park is off to me. It is industrial like in my opinion, and I don't love that too much. There is one small pond that is next to the two dog parks. The side walk doesn't seem to go all the way around and one of the views is the busy expressway. The small dog park is where we went. It was a third the size of the big dog park. There were surrounding benches for the owners to sit and a few trees for shade and dogs to be happy peeing on. I did not like how their was grass and empty unkempt patches. Mocha Coconut's paws and hair got pretty dirty. I have seen cleaner nicer dog parks for sure! At least I know this is here! read more

Great park! I love checking out the birds on the water and my dogs like to run around in the open area. My dogs aren't as into the dog park area, but almost any dog would love the spacious, well-maintained fenced in play yards that are separated into Large and Small Dog areas. Great place for my dog and me. I was visiting a friend in the area and saw this place on Yelp. I enjoyed it and will be back. There is a cool Veterans' memorial with a F-16A. There are many areas to park and it is a beautiful and large park with 2 lakes. Beware the alligators so don't have your dog off leash. There is both a small and large dog area. There is a dog wash outside the gated area. There are benches and water for your dog. I recommend and will be back. read more

This dog park had some things I loved and some things I hated. I can't decide if I like this one or Helen Howarth better. I probably will bring my pup back to this one every once in awhile. Pros: -Decent sized dog park -Interesting items like small tunnels and a large plastic fire hydrant -several park benches for owners to sit on -A nice water fountain that has four different heights including doggie bowl outside the front gate. Of course, there is the puppy drinking area inside too. Cons: -Sand, tons and tons of sand at the entrance. Most of the park was solid, buy you and pup must step in sand to get there. -Not a ton of shaded area. There is some, but this white girl was roasted in 30 minutes. -Not a lot of parking. I lucked out and grabbed the last spot on a busy day. Freedom Lake Park itself has two large lakes (although they are smelly) with some trails, lots of picnic areas and playgrounds. So, you could always walk your dog out there too. Overall, not a bad place to spend some time with your pup. read more

This is a nice park surrounded by two lakes, picnic tables, a tribute to Veterans including an Air Force Plane and a monument for the Korean War. Around the lakes are two walking trails and there are also two dog parks. One is for big dogs and one is for small dogs. There are benches around the edges of these dog parks. They are fenced in and there are quite a bit of trees for shade, and so the dogs can enjoy peeing on them. There are areas for them to climb, and once you get out there is a hose to clean them up. The grass is a little beat up and there are dirt spots so the dogs can get pretty dirty. This park is okay compared to others we have been to. read more

Freedom lake park is hidden treasure in Pinellas park and if your not paying attention you may pass it because the signage is tiny. My boyfriend took me to the park to run when we first moved in. I was impressed because it is huge and right off the highway. There is a lot of activity in the park because it is also considered a dog park as well so people walk their dogs there. There are two sections one for small dogs and one for large dogs. I love that they do that so that the small dogs can play freely without fear of being hurt. Of course people bring all their dogs and many times walk them on the running path which, can be a pain but you can run around them. The path has also walkers with children. The greenery is nicely kept and I have noticed that they have maintenance people on grounds from time to time to keep the park clean. There is an outdoor gym on site which is pretty cool with instructions. Who needs an gym membership when you can go there for free. I have tried it out and it is pretty decent . I highly recommend the park to anyone who wants a safe place to walk their dog, walk with family, and run. The track is 7/10 o a mile and the other one you will make a little over a mile . read more

Love the dog park and so does my dog. I love that we can walk around the lakes and enjoy our day here. My problem with the dog park is not with the park itself, but the owners. There tend to be cliques of older folks whose dogs are not trained, so beware. read more

The amount of parks in the area still amazes me. We just discovered this one this past weekend. Very cute park! Would have loved to take a walk around the lake but we didn't have time. Ample parking and lots of people out BBQ'n and walking around. Took our doggies into the dog park so they could burn some energy. There are separate areas for small dogs and big dogs. Pretty clean and decent size. There were only a couple of other dogs in there with us so not sure how crowded it normally gets at different times of the day/week (We came on a Saturday around 5-6PM). And I am not sure if it is just dog owner's laziness or maybe unintentional, but it was like a doggy doo doo gold mine in the back corner of the park (over by the big tree). Watch your step! Our pups had fun with the dogs there. Will definitely return soon. read more

Even as a non dog owner I love it here. I can spend some time with my thoughts and borrow other peoples pups to play with! Pet parents are like people parents in the fact they will take up any opportunity to have someone else babysit, and I'm always glad to rise to the occassion. Finally found a dog park that's closer to us that the one in DTSP. It's small, but has more shade and no mulch like the other park. Of course two different sections for large and small dogs. This was our puppies first trip to a dog park. She wasn't too pleased. She didn't know how to socialize like her older bigger sister. My husband had our big girl on the other side tossing the ball for her. I tried to get my little girl to socialize but she was too scared. Love they have plenty f seating for the humans and some obstacle things for dogs to play on. My big girl loves it! It's close by and there are even shelters for hosting picnics and grilling. Very clean no poop and they have two separate areas for small and big dogs. The pups loved it. Dog area looks nice. 2 lakes, one with about a half mile trail around it close to hwy/frwy and an industrial area with a working drinking fountain about half way. I really enjoy this park and suggest anyone in the area to visit! I've been looking for a good dog park since in moved into the area last August, and I think I found it with Freedom Lake! I've been to most of them in area (Cresent Lake, Lake Vista, Kenwood ect). Though, this one has a nice quality mix of dog park, and human exercise areas. My dog Maelee loves it! It is a little hidden, and tricky to get to if you are not looking for it, but my GPS lead me there without too much trouble. You can walk around two lakes and the larger one surrounds a playground and outdoor gym. You might have some encounters with mosquitos due to the lake, but I guess that comes with any outdoor place in Florida. There are two dog parks one for large and small. Both are fairly large and are well kept. Though one of the most important aspects of a good dog park are the dogs and owners. Every time I go I have a good experience with both. The owners are friendly and don't let their dogs get too out of hand. My dog loves all the dogs that she meets, and isn't as shy/nervous interacting like she is at other parks. I plan on frequenting this park for a long time! read more

As others have said, it's a hidden treasure. The walking trails are very nice. It's clean and well kept. I used to live in the neighborhood nearby and we took our dogs here all the time. Never had any issues with overly aggressive dogs. We did see one lady who thought it would be a good idea for her dog to swim in the lakes... Not a good idea!! I haven't seen any gators, but it's Florida. They have a small and a little dog area, ample parking, and a big playground. You can also rent kayaks at the far end, if I remember right. read more
