This is a beautiful beach with pristine water and a great location--there is no shortage of things to do in the immediate area, which makes it a fun spot for a day out. However, I would definitely recommend wearing water shoes or sandals. The sand is quite rough and packed with broken-up shells, making it sharp and fairly painful to walk on barefoot. Additionally, the parking situation is a bit steep at $6/hour. Compared to other nearby beaches that offer free or more affordable parking options, it feels like a bit much. If you don't mind the extra cost and are prepared with footwear, it's still a lovely place to visit! read more

I've written reviews before about this place. It's magical. The whole area of Pass A Grill is breathtaking and simply beautiful. I like the atmosphere and the small touristy atmosphere as well. It's not overwhelming and there is so much to see and experience. The beach alone is amazing. The water is the perfect temperature. Depending on which area you choose the settle down in on the beach is where you will find either the nice sand or the Shelly kind of sand. This weekend we had the Shelly kind of sand which is at the southern point. But it is ok. It will work out and you will still have a great time. read more

This beach kinda sucks. It probably sounds odd but the sand on this beach is rough as shit and very feet unfriendly. My son and I played volleyball for about 15 minutes before several cuts to our feet and hands halted it. It's also one of the most expensive beaches to park at. I think we paid about $20 for four hours. Do yourself a favor and spend the day at St. Pete's public beach. It's cheaper, they have thr same amenities, the beach is larger and the sand, well, the sand is that soft white kind that's kind to your feet! Cheers. read more

Beautiful stretch of beach easily accessible from street parking. We rented a couple chairs and an umbrella and made a day of it! Had a nice walk up concession where we grabbed lunch including a sandwich and fresh fruit. This beach is a very pretty beach. However, all the broken shells in the sand are very sharp here & will cut your feet. You have to wear swim shoes to swim here. And right now they are dredging, so it's not a good place to swim at all. The storms have damaged the dunes, they have been replanted but it will take some time to recover. Never thought I'd be reviewing a beach, but here we are! Pass-a-grille beach is easily one of the best beaches I've ever been to in Florida. The sand is white, the ocean is clear, and the whole shore is super clean. I was blown away by how gorgeous and clear this beach was. It felt like I was overseas in the Dominican Republic or something! I came here with friends on a Sunday afternoon; there was a good amount of people but it wasn't overcrowded which was nice. We were able to find a spot quickly. Tip: definitelyyyyy bring some sort of umbrella or something to keep you in the shade. The sun is blazing here on a summer day, your skin will thank you! It was also a free beach and had plenty of parking on the street which was great. If I'm ever in St. Petersburg again, I will totally revisit this beach! read more

it is south of St Pete Beach. The Pass-a-Grille beach has white powdery sand that extends far into the water, which stays shallow for a long way gradually deepening. The water is clear and emerald-colored. Pass-a-Grille has a lovely laid-back beach town vibe. There are not any large resorts or hotels in this area and it has a much more laid-back feel. we spent 3-4 hours here doing nothing, just strolling, collecting shells, and talking. it has that vibe. The sand is soft and white in most places, although shells do accumulate in some spots, which can be painful on bare feet. there are fewer restaurants and things to do in this area, although there are enough options to choose from. The town has kept its small beach town feel and has avoided becoming an overdeveloped tourist trap. Almost all of the town consists of beach houses and 1950s beach bungalows. There are no high-rise hotels or condos in the town. Most of the streets are lined with palm trees, and lush landscaping is everywhere you look. Parking: Onsite parking is available. Unlike Sarasota, Bradenton beach- parking is not free here in St Petersburg, it's $3/hour. make sure when you are in the St Pete beach area, you don't do back-in parking. This beach was the answer to all of my "I hate New York winters" problems. Locate the big pink Don Cesar hotel and keep going south, and you'll find Pass-A-Grille. The community is beachy and relaxed, dotted with restaurants, gift shops, and very nice homes. Parking is mostly via meter (I spent $15.75 for 4 hours). Beach chairs with umbrellas are available - just sit down at one and the guy running things will come over to you with a credit card machine. I paid $40 for two chairs and an umbrella "all day" until 5pm. If you get to the beach early, that doesn't seem terrible. There were also plenty of people who brought their own chairs and towels too. I read, fell asleep, talked to some fellow beachgoers, swam in the ocean, and relaxed some more. I was there on a hot sunny day and was glad for the umbrella. There is a bathroom/changing room facility here (which could be cleaner), paddleboard rentals, adirondack chairs, picnic tables, and a grill serving burgers/seafood/drinks/etc. This is not a fine sand beach - shells (including broken ones) are everywhere, so wear water shoes or sturdy sandals. I can't believe it's been over 8 years since my review for Pass-A-Grille Beach. This has become our fave go to St. Pete Beach. When you go past the Don Cesar Pink Hotel, you just keep going til the end. This is Pass-A-Grille. We love sitting in the beach where you see Don Cesar in the distance. It's less crowded than sitting by the main area where the bathroom and eatery are. That eatery has picnic tables, music, and food, and the showers, and bathrooms are there. That's an easy reason it's so crowded there. I love being away from the crowd. It's nice and chill and perfect. Parking is no longer free here. You can pay through the park mobile app. The parking is until 8 pm and then it's free. I love this Pass-A-Grille Beach. We always try to find a different beach to go to but always gravitate back to this one. read more

Came here for Pass-A-Grille dog beach. I recommend typing the dog beach into your gps as it is in a separate area from the regular beach, about 5 minutes further down and to the left side. We came on a Tuesday, so it wasn't super busy but it was perfect for our two doggos. You have to pay for parking, but it was only about $10 for two hours. Found some great seashells all over the beach and took a handful to bring home. Great afternoon visiting St. Petersburg! read more

This is just the most southern part of St Pete Beach. We parked across the street from the park so we good use the facilities for changing into swim suits. Lots of parking spots and you have to pay by the kiosk or app. The beach has lots of shells on it, if you're into that sort of thing, I am not, as it hurts my feet. I rather go to a beach on the east coast, or perhaps Siesta Key, with the fine white sand. read more

We recently visited friends for a weekend in St. Pete and wanted to only do outdoor activities due to COVID spread and they suggested this beach. Please keep in mind that this trip was taken in JANUARY. A warm day in January but definitely not a summer day where there were more crowds. And honestly, everyone... what is the allure of the summer beach? It's crowded and hot and sticky. A winter beach trip is where it's at!!! The weather is perfect out and I could care less to swim in the ocean but sticking my feet in the brisk, cool water was ultra refreshing. So, in January this beach is perfect. I also found this beach filled with beautiful shells! I don't see this many shells on the East coast of Florida so this was a nice change from my usual beach. I lost a loved one to a rip-current at pass-a-grille beach. don't swim near peers or Jetties. They can be swept out in ankle deep water. Quietest beach in pinellas. If you are looking for a relaxing day at the beach, this is the place. Most of the beaches up the coast of pinellas are rowdy and packed. Depending on the day, pass-a-grille is the exception. Very limited parking though, which helps with the crowds, so get there early any given day. read more

For some reason, I had had so many people recommend going to Pass-A-Grille to me, so it obviously was added to my list after awhile. And, it's in the St. Pete area so I knew it had to be fairly nice. Overall I understand why people like it. But for my personal preferences, I don't think it'd be somewhere I'd come back unless someone else I knew really wanted to go. The sand is soft but not near as soft as nearby beaches. The water is a lovely color and there were some waves but it was great to go swimming in. As the beach stretches on, you can also see a mini skyline of St. Pete beach and it's super pretty. The reason I wouldn't go back is mainly the parking. It was around $3 per hour. We were only there for a few hours, but mannn that starts to add up if you actually stay there the entire day. And I know tons of other beaches where you don't pay a thing to park. If you're vacationing there or don't have a car to park then this beach is a totally different story. But for someone like me who is more local and drives to the beach and actually cares about spending money unnecessarily, coming here just isn't a practical choice. Another thing to note is that they do have rinse stations so that you don't have to be all sandy after you leave. That's always huge. read more

My husband wanted to do some night fishing at the beach and I was very skeptical about it because that's a dangerous time and place to go at night so I decided to go with him. As we pulled up into the parking lot at 10pm, there was a good crowd still out and about. There was a bar nearby that was also opened and I was surprised. Parking was a breeze and we parked at one of the openings. I will have to say , I felt VERY safe at that time of night. I did not ever feel threatened or scared. As my husband fished, I walked along the beach and there were still plenty of people still out on the beach and fishing as well. It was a very nice feeling and I would definitely do it again! Just gotta watch out for your legs if you're wearing shorts because I got bit but not a lot. This place was great, safe, and didn't have a lot of tourists! read more

It's painful to walk from the water to my beach umbrella because of all the shells. It's like walking on rocks/glass. I will say, there are a lot of shells so you can definitely enjoy hunting for some gems. I'm used to St. Pete where it's clearer, you're swimming with fish, and the sand is white like sugar. The sand here is white but there is a ton of sea moss and shells. I'm thinking the 5 star reviews apply to the part of Pass a Grille where I should have been at. This is my kind of beach. Pelican watching, few crowds, seashell hunting, incredible sunset views, easy parking and near careless surrounding streets filled with charming beach cottages. I had visited this spot a few years ago and forgot how much I loved the laid back historic charm of the area. You'll find a handful of meh restaurants in the neighborhood but the location is so great you'll either lower the bar on your food standards or lack a picnic. Pass-A-Grille Beach is also located only a stone's throw from the De Soto State Park which is ideal for cycling and kayaking. The chill vibe and paved paths found throughout this area are also ideal for biking. I could easily sit with a book for a few hours and enjoy the diving pelicans. Simple joys found here. read more

This trip to the beach nearly killed me, so it only gets 4 stars. Beautiful beach and seashells galore. But not worth the terror of nearly drowning. After paying at the meter to park ($2.50/hr), I headed out onto the beach. I found it more crowded than I had expected from what little traffic I had experienced, but it was also a Saturday. I was there for some shelling anyways and had plans to beachcomb my way down to the end of the beach, to the retaining wall. I hit the jackpot, down by the retaining wall, and found lots of great shells. Afterwards, I decided to walk back up the beach a short distance and go cool off in the water. I know better than to go into water near retaining walls and channels, due to dangerous currents. There was only a couple people down at the end, up on the beach, and I wanted to enjoy the water where it wasn't crowded and it was quiet. That almost ended up being the last bad decision I've ever made. I didn't even go out very far before I laid back to float on my back and relax for a bit. After what seemed like just a few seconds, I felt myself being pulled into a current and when I opened my eyes, I saw that I had been very quickly pulled right back to the end of the beach and the current sucking me in was just getting stronger and beginning to pull me down the retaining wall of rocks and out towards the channel. I couldn't get ahold of the rocks I was being dragged along and slammed into well enough to climb up and out of the water. I'm a very strong swimmer, but there was no way of swimming out of this and I was fearful that if I went along with the current and allowed myself to be pulled into the channel, I would drown. A man appeared out of nowhere and jumped in to save me. I am so extremely grateful for the big, muscular man named Dan that scooped me up like a sack of potatoes and took me to land. He said I was just about to be sucked into a spot in the rocks that whirlpools and would have sucked me under. This is an extremely dangerous spot, and there's not a single sign warning of such. I know locals understand the dangers of channels, inlets, rip currents, etc. But others often do not. I'm still mad at myself because I knew better, but I really did think I had moved far enough away to be safe before entering the water. Children should absolutely not go anywhere near the end of this beach. I'm looking forward to going back on a weekday morning for some less crowded shelling time. But I'm never going in the water, past the restaurant that meets the shore, ever again. read more

Psss-A-Grille Beach is at the southernmost point of St Pete. One of the reasons I love it so much is that it is not a heavy touristy beach. There are two large restaurants across the street from the beach and they are both owned by Maryland natives. This is another attraction for me as I can order true Maryland crab after a long day at the beach:) The beach itself has many seashells so I would recommend water shoes so you don't hurt your feet. Parking can be tricky but paid parking is available. Paradise Grill is another plus here. It is right on the beach and has many food and drink choices including beer and wine. Once upon a time this was the sleepiest little beach. The parking was cheap, coin only, and plentiful. The waves were nonexistent. And the sand was littered with shells on shells on shells. It was heaven. So now it's not totally the same. It's some of the most expensive beach parking this side of Clearwater. And finding a spot can bar darn near impossible. (Life hack: go sit at the very end of the beach on a side street and just watch for someone to leave.) It is still a perfect beach, somehow. The best beach for shelling and the best beach to bring a family. There are bathrooms, lots of food options, and since the water is so peaceful it is a great beach for parents with young kids. This beach is located at the southern end of St. Pete Beach. It is just south of the historic pink Don Cesar Hotel. It begins at 22nd Avenue and goes south to the end. The Gulfway Walkway is the sidewalk that runs along the beach. Paid parking is also available along the beach as well. We walked over the wooden dune walkover with a foot shower to the scenic beach. You could see people walking, collecting shells, participating in water sports and just sun bathing. They do have public bathrooms available. We stayed for several hours relaxing and walking. We also enjoyed the beautiful sunset on the Gulf of Mexico. read more

Pass-A-Grille Beach is a quaint little beach town. The beach is gorgeous with white sand and a calm surf. This beach is well maintained, and family friendly. It's more of a quiet laid back beach. It's located just south of the famous Don Cesar Hotel. Along this beach you won't find any well known high rise hotels. You will find some smaller type Inns & motels instead. This is a less developed beach and that's the reason I and so many others love it so much. You can walk or drive to the south end of the beach where you will find a handful of shops and places to eat. The ice cream shop has the most delicious ice cream and I highly recommend it! There is also a jetty at the very southern end of the beach. If you walk onto the jetty you will likely find a bunch of people fishing. It's also a great place to see Manatees & Dolphins if they are around. There is a snack and food bar right on the beach towards the southern end as well. You will find that you can also rent chairs at this location. There are public restrooms and metered parking along the beach. read more

This is the southern most beach community of St Pete Beach. The beach and water are beautiful. There is plenty of street parking along the entire beach. Parking is metered and four hours cost about 9 dollars. There is a small town with shops and restaurants. You can rent beach chairs in the town. Along the 2 mile stretch of the main beach road are several small inns and bed & breakfasts. Most of the town's residents are year round. There are only two restrooms along the beach. One on 16th ave and another at a restaurant on the beach in the town. There is a good ice cream parlor in the town. This beach is visited by mostly local and tourist families. The town does host several fairs on certain weekends. Beach parking is difficult during those times. read more

Pass-A-Grille Beach is one of my favorite beaches in the area. There is a lot of parking along a long strip. You pay for the parking at one of the meters using your spot number. Follow the directions on the screen. You have to put in your parking spot number first. I see a lot of people have a problem with that. It was $3.25 per hour when I was last there. I typically drive South a little bit to the areas that aren't as crowded. There is plenty of beach here and you can normally find personal space. There are also some restaurants along the road where there is parking and a few small stands along the beach. The beach is clean and beautiful. It is kind of neat to be able to see a long stretch of sand with people all the way up. There are often boats out here and sometimes they can cause larger waves. It is a good place for wading in the water. I also typically see police out here patrolling. I have never had an issue with leaving my stuff on the sand while I walk or swim. Overall, it is a great beach and one of my favorites. read more

YOU MUST BRING SAND SHOES if you are planning on getting in the water There are tons of crushed seashells as you get close to the water and u til you are about past your knees in depth. There is a ton of public street parking ( @ $3.50 per hour). You can pay with the app or the machines in the parking lot. The man ' I walked from 17th street to 1st street. There are some gigantic rocks down by 1st street and there was a guy standing in waist deep water fishing ( why) . Fishing draws fish that draw sharks ...... I won't swim where people are fishing. And you always have the idiots who come close to impaling you with their fishing hook as they cast it out. We are at the Pass A grill little restaurant shack ( outdoor eating only). I'll review that separately. They had string above the patio area to keep birds away. It's a very scenic spot. You are basically right on the water. I mean like 15 - 20 feet. Super close. Just remember those beach shoes and you will have a blast. Another tip is that the big pink historic hotel the Don Cesar is up the beach. You pass it on the way to this beach. They sell day passes for their pool/beach for around $25-40 per day per adult. I might do that ne t time. read more

Beautiful Beach and town however the parking is awful and not worth the headache of going to the area along with the city commissioners are sharks. This is a rich city and they only care about getting richer. They charge $90 for a parking ticket. It's highway robbery. I was going to book a vacation here until I found this out and have decided there are plenty of gorgeous beaches and cities elsewhere that actually want people to visit to enjoy their town and not just to rip them off.
