We have been patients of Dr. Passés for years and we had a recent experience that went beyond extraordinary. TLDR, my wife's temporary crown fell off a day before her overseas trip. Her call into the Passes dental office on Sunday was picked up by a call center worker and re-routed to the doctor's mobile. This was my first visit and I can say with all honesty that I have never had a more enjoyable time at the dentist! The waiting room is comfortable and welcoming and the entire office is spotlessly clean. The best part of the experience was the staff, though. Even as a new patient I felt like an old friend. Staff, office & overall ambiance is extremely welcoming & nice but don't let it blind you from the reality! Short summary: ALWAYS clarify if your going in for a free consultation and if so CONFIRM if your insurance is accepted at this office because if not, the free consultation is worth absolutely nothing if you need referrals, etc. Also, get a second opinion if something feels wrong! They did not diagnose a massive infection I have, I had a new dentist the following day diagnose the infection. Called with an aching wisdom tooth & huge bump above the wisdom tooth looking for urgent help. They agreed to see me same day but it was under a free consultation, that was not clarified to me. (I provided my insurance card & was never told my insurance was not accepted) Arrival to office and greeted with a gift bag, temperature check & office tour. Entered the dental room and answered a questionnaire about expectations with the assistant. My answers consisted of "wanting to know everything in details" & "trust" being important factors to me. X-rays and separate photos were taken. Dr reviewed and quickly confirmed I needed the wisdom tooth to be removed ASAP. The assistant put me on the line with an oral surgeon to schedule a same day appointment. At the end of the phone call with the oral surgeon office, the women asked to be transferred to the front desk because she needed to request the referral. I gave the phone back to the dental assistant & she told me I was good to go. I stopped at the front desk to ensure all was good and left. I arrived to my oral surgeon appointment later in the day to be asked where my referral was. I was given what I thought was a referral by the dentist office and handed that over. The women denied and told me that was not a referral. She put me on the phone with my insurance company & she herself called the dentist office. My insurance could not provide the referral because we learned my insurance was not accepted at this office & since I had arrived under a free consultation, they could not write me a referral. The oral surgeon receptionist was very confused as to why I was sent over to the office in the first place and felt sorry for me. I felt extremely frustrated & unvalued by this dentist office. Why couldn't you have explained to me that the next step I needed to take was to visit a dentist office that would accept my insurance in order for them to have the authorization to write me a referral letter? The oral surgeon office stated they were unable to take me without a referral in general, as did all oral surgeon offices that I called later in the day. It was something very easy for myself to understand, but you chose not to explain and clarify this VERY important factor to me as a patient. I visited a new dentist office today and within 10 seconds of opening my mouth, the Dr first reaction, "Wow, that's a big infection" and needed to be put on antibiotics ASAP. The scariest part of this entire situation was the fact that nothing had changed from yesterday to today, and you were not able to diagnose a very OBVIOUS infection!!! When I asked Dr Passes what this bump above my wisdom tooth was, I was told its basically a canker sore. As you know, mouth infections are not a joke and I am beyond disappointed you directed me towards an oral surgeon who could have possibly missed this infection as well and may have performed surgery on me, causing a massive risk. You did not explain "everything in detail" and you did not gain my "trust". My new dentist stated that if I would have got the wisdom tooth removed with this active infection, it could have become a "huge mess". If you read this far, I left this detailed review in hopes that you consider always getting a second opinion when dealing with any serious mouth issues because the risks associated are truly not worth it. Why, sure, if you want to spend $6000 on a root canal you probably didn't need in the first place, go to Harvey Passes. He recommended me for a root canal (I was 19), brings in his root canal specialist, and boom, thousands of dollars. I wonder what inside deal they have going on. Ridiculously expensive. But it's Great Neck, so people'll pay it. Then, while he's inside your mouth, he goes into these condescending spiels about what it means to be successful and gives you the list of all the people he's treated. He's a cartoon of a guy who's just got the bottom line on his mind. The best was when I hadn't seen him in a few years (duh!), and he had his staff write this letter "from him" saying, almost literally, that he wanted me back. He tried to make it sound personal, like "I fear I upset you," and "I want to make it right." I don't like my dentist being a disingenuous salesman. I'm not saying he's not for you; he's darn good at what he does despite the ulterior necessitating. He's got a good eye, and can probably patch up a cavity masterfully. But if price, integrity, and respect are of any concern for you, then avoid him. read more

About seven months ago I started looking into nearby dentist offices that offered Invisalign at a reasonable price. I contacted Passes Dental Care after seeing an ad in the paper noting an Invisalign promotion. From the moment that I walked into Dr. Passes office, I felt at ease. The staff was welcoming, patient and informative. They walked me through the process and described exactly what was included with the Invisalign promotion. Having worked at and visited numerous dental offices, I came to Dr. Passes office to find myself leaving... wanting to come back. As ironic as it may sound, let's be honest... nobody likes going to the dentist; however Dr. Passes and the staff do an exceptional job taking care of your oral health and keeping you on track. Dr. Passes and the staff do a lot of things right. What I means is: not only do they do their job in caring for your oral health, but starting from picking up the phone and ending with you taking your last steps out of the office, the staff at Dr. Passes office makes you feel as if you never left home. Cara, the hygienist does a very thorough and painless job when doing your routine cleaning. Lavanda and Sade, the assistants not only make you feel at home, but are there for you to hold your hand (literally) if you have dental phobia. Dr. Passes, the 'singing dentist' who specializes in caring for those with dental phobia does a great job keeping your mind off dentistry while in the chair. Whether it be the stories he's accumulated over the years from his experience, his singing, or his random outbursts of history knowledge, the visits at his office fly by. I have been to many offices where it feels as if your just a number waiting to be called to have dental work done. I have also been to offices where my oral health wasn't their number one priority but rather 'their pockets'. I'm glad I found Dr. Passes and their staff whom I've come to trust with my oral hygiene. Dr. Passes is AMAZING! The office is beautiful and the staff is very attentive. I received a nice gift on my first visit. They always have day planners and lip balm. They have a better selection of coffee than Starbucks. To top it off, they have soft chocolate chip cookies. Dr. Passes took great care of me and within an hour, I was out of the office. No waiting. Scam artist. He claimed I needed a tooth extraction due to a fractured tooth. Nonsense! I really needed an old root canal to be re-done. However, this scam doctor, Dr. Passes, tried to talk me into a tooth extraction , then have a tooth implant costing thousands of dollars. Avoid this scammer. Ultimately, I had the tooth extracted frivolously because I listened to this scam artist. I had the tooth extracted for nothing - the real issue was the old root canal needed to be re-done. This dentist, Dr, Passes, is a con artist who cares about one thing and one thing only: how much he can get you to pay. Yes, his staff is nice, and they are pleasant. When someone is going through any tooth ordeal, everything can be a problem including where you decide to have the issue tended to. Being in the medical field it can be a challenge being satisfied as you know how great care should be . This office was such a pleasure! From answering the phone, making the appointment, facilitating the paperwork, walking through the doors of the office, during the office visit, afterwards...it goes on and on. I have never written an online review, let alone one for a Dental practice. However, I have never before had a dentist like Dr. Passes of PASSES DENTAL CARE. My family and I found them almost by accident when we noticed their office on Northern Blvd (just south of Leonard's of Great Neck). In desperate need of a dentist, though dreading the unknown, I decided to take a 'leap of faith" and made an appointment. From our initial phone call, follow-up "welcome" call, thorough intake and evaluation, PASSES DENTAL already impressed. When we arrived (all 3 generations of my family), we were greeted by one nicer-than-the-next employee, all sincerely enthusiastic, warm and welcoming. Let's start with the PASSES DENTAL CARE waiting room. Never before had I been to a dental office that was comforting and calming, bright, tastefully decorated, immaculate and had a generous offering of bottled water, tea/coffee, even home-baked cookies (sugar free!). I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when I turned to my dad and said: "we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto". Already PASSES DENTAL was an incredibly "different" (for the better) dental experience. Just as soon as we arrived with virtually no wait time, I was escorted into a bright, clean room, one of several (the office also handles pediatric dentistry and oral surgery) and was greeted by Dr. Passes and Margie, the office manager. You would think I was "family" by their warmth and appreciation for my business...and it was a genuine greeting, nothing fake about this place (other than the fireplace perhaps). Dr. Passes and his assistant proceeded to do a thorough evaluation, sharing the results of the x-rays with me to illustrate my dental issues, discussed options, course of treatment, timing and cost. At no point then or since (hence one year since first arriving at PASSES DENTAL) have my family members or I been treated in a lesser manner than on our initial visit. Whoever is tending to your teeth (Dr. Passes or one of his associates) tends to your overall wellness, listening to concerns of fear and pain, and addressing each issue in detail. Believe me, I had a lot of issues. The doctors, dental assistants and hygienist, scheduling, billing and reception all, maintain the highest level of professionalism while being incredibly attentive. Customer Service is obviously something PASSES DENTAL spends a great deal of time instilling in every member of the staff, as to date, I can find no downsides to this practice!? Personally, after years of avoiding the dentist out of fear and horrible past experiences, going to PASSES has been a pleasure. I have had extensive work (root canal, tooth pull, cavities, cleaning) and can honestly say for the first time in my life, I have no issue going to the dentist. In fact, (and this may sound like an infomercial but....) I actually enjoy going to PASSES DENTAL just to get so much attention from an incredible dentist (and staff), not to mention, serenaded by a doctor who also has an incredible and soothing singing voice! So there...I dare anyone to challenge my review because being in that chair will make a believer out of you too. But don't take my word for it alone, take a leap of faith if what your after is finding a dentist that is as experienced, thorough, fair (cost), caring, kind and considerate. I came in with a crown with a side that had broken off. I was squeezed in early in the am, given fast-acting novocaine, and proceeded to receive the fastest crown I have ever received. Passes Dental is a beautiful facility with an exceptionally friendly staff. For those who fear dentists like myself, you are made to feel comfortable. BUT that is how you get talked into getting expensive work done. I won't go into detail of my experience, because it is too painful. Just know this...you will pay more than 4 times the amount other just as competent dentists will charge, I know this because I have since went for 2nd and 3rd opinions and both new dentists were blown away by how much I was charged. Dr. Passes is a salesman and a smooth talker. You are made to feel like he really cares...he doesn't. I was in the middle of having work done and haven't gone back. I have not received one phone call to see how I am. He has my $23,000, guess he doesn't have to be concerned anymore. His beautiful office and exam rooms, the gifts, the flowers they send you, are all paid by us overcharged patients.
