I grew up loving stationery stores and want to support the few remaining ones like Paper Source. Unfortunately, the prices at Paper Source are very high, from greeting cards to gift wrap and gift bags. Also, you can't always get the service that you want right away. Earlier this month, I arrived to Paper Source soon after it opened at 10:00 and requested gift wrapping service. I bought a gift for a birthday party and wanted it nicely wrapped. There were two sales associates there and neither was able to offer gift wrapping services. I was told to return at around 3:30 and a sales associate on duty may be able to gift wrap for me. Also, they usually need 24 hours advance notice for gift wrapping. When I returned in the afternoon a little before 3:30, I was told that the person might be in at 4:00. I looked at the prices of the boxes and gift bags and decided that none of the waiting was worth it to have to likely spend $30+ dollars on a box, gift wrapping, and a gift bag. I went to Dollar Tree on Maple Road in Troy where there is a large assortment of gift bags. I bought a clear cellophane bag for $1.25 to put the gift in before placing it in a sparkly Happy Birthday gift bag for another $1.25. Total price was $2.50 and I didn't have to wait hours to have to spend ten times more at Paper Source. It's unfortunate because Paper Source can't afford to lose more customers to places like Dollar Tree or Party City, but it will continue to happen because of the high prices and lack of quick services. The quality difference of boxes and gift bags between a high end store like Paper Source and Dollar Tree is negligible. I also prefer Hallmark to Paper Source because I get a lot of coupons from Hallmark, including a monthly free greeting card signing up for Crown Rewards.

Nice store with a lot of magic related items from books to kits to the tricks like hand buzzers. The gentleman working was a great help and spent time explaining some tricks and recommended some books. If you have even a cursory interest you should stop in.

The staff is great, both guys were very helpful and talented demonstrators of various tricks. I mentioned how familiar all the props seemed from when I used to visit a little magic shop in Ferndale in the 1970s owned by Romeg the Magician and then Poof! As if by magic they pointed to a photo behind the counter and told me that this store was in fact the second reincarnation of that very magical place from my childhood, transported to Clawson 40 years later. What an amazing coincidence that I should take my nephews to buy tricks at the same place that made me fall in love with prestidigitation all those years ago. I bet that some of the items lining the walls were actually the same props from all those years ago. If you love magic this is the place to go.

I hadn't been to Somerset in a while so I had forgotten they had a Lego store until I saw someone walking by me with a bag. I got real excited when I saw that because she had a Harry Potter Lego set on her wishlist. Thank goodness she still likes to build stuff! I popped in and was wowed by how neat it was, especially given that Legos are, well, messy. Sets were neatly stacked against the walls with displays underneath behind plastic so you can see them built. They had everything from the massive Millenium Falcon from Star Wars to Lego Friends sets, and even some of the special edition sets like the super rad black and white Steamboat Willie Disney collaboration (I was thisclose to buying that for myself). I easily found the Hagrid's Hut set that she wanted and was helped quickly and efficiently by a very pleasant fellow. All in all a very successful Lego store visit. I'll be sure to pop in again next time I'm in the area!

They had them ready and waiting for me the following afternoon. Store is clean and well organized. And the employee at the front desk was very friendly - seemed very nice when checking out the couple in front of me and when some people walked into the store after me. I'll definitely go back. I came here the other day specifically for Pete Souza's new book, which is hysterical and amusing after only three pages. I would've saved around 10 bucks had I ordered online, but I couldn't wait 3-5 days. The employees don't seem too high strung, and seem very eager to help you out, which is great because it can be annoying when it's obviously that you need help, yet staff just walks by you. When I initially entered the store the first thing to catch my eye was a mug. I end up picking it up, only to add to the 40+ mugs I already have and don't really need. In addition to mugs they're tons of gadgets, cards, keychains, ect... This store almost feels like a an outlet Barnes and Nobles meets Borders. Plan on return to do some Christmas shopping for friends/family who also loves books.
