Great sammiches. Great service. I believe that it is wrong for Yelp to require 85 characters to give a thumbs up to a restaurant.

It is a horrible shame when a brand new business opens up only to get attacked by local competitors posting fake, denigrating reviews to squash the competition. I know first hand that some of the scuzzy/starving pizza parlors in the area like to partake is this type of bashing, so much so that they actually caused another pizza parlor (a good one) to close. Only after logging in to Yelp to post a great (deserved) review on this place did I notice the online attack. Again, a complete shame, and if it were my business, I would immediately seek council and sue in federal court for denigration, intentional harm, interference with economic advantage and countless other torts. Anyway, back to the review. I will keep it short and sweet. All of my followers know that I have no issue leaving a scathing review when deserved, and they also know that as a SOBER diner, my taste buds are always spot on. Trust me - This place absolutely Rocks!! 1) I walked in and was immediately greeted by very friendly staff. Owner was in the back (staying on top of things) NOT abusing his employees, like one of the sham posters mentioned. 2) Everything in the trays 'looked' fantastic at first sight, and woulnd up being even BETTER than it looked! Pastrami was absolutely delicious. Owner suggested a 'cyclone' sandwich and it was totally fantastic. Melts in your mouth pastrami. 3) Hot dog was delicious. So were the beans (unreal) and the macaroni sides. 4) Bowtie paste - perfect 5) Homestyle potatoes = perfect 6) NY pickles absolutely delicious and crisp!!! 7) Garlic and Blue cheese fries! Delicious EVERYTHING was tender and delicious. Everything. As the town of Jackson is over crowded with pizza parlors that all leave their doors wide open and all taste the same, it is about time WE got a high quality place to grab some authentic NY style food. I posted a few images of our meals - do yourself a favor and try this place. You will remember my review after your fist bite! To the owners: Hang in there and DONT CHANGE ANYTHING! Not the Carnegie Deli. I walked in expecting to smell a pot of fresh Pastrami cooking; no pot, no smell. I ordered a simple Hot 7oz sandwich on rye. To my surprise the Pastrami was dry with no fat whatsoever; and slightly luke-warm; only marginally better than Supermarket Boars Head. OK, so let's try the Junior's Cheesecake. I was warned it was ice cold. Turns out it was a frozen mini; no slice, no strawberries! To make things worse, it separated into dry clumps; awful! Bad. Very expensive and very little meat. I paid $22 for my son's "large" sandwich, there was nothing large about it. My pastrami club on hero roll was all bread. Paid extra to add cheese to my husband's sandwich and did not get any cheese. Very expensive for what you get, and it doesn't really taste that good either. Steer clear of this place. read more

Just finished a fantastic lunch at Pastrami House. I had the medium reuben which came with cole slaw and a pickle. Reuben was one of the best I've ever had with juicy, fresh meat, great sauerkraut and just a little bit of dressing on fresh, delicious rye bread. I also had their potato latke's, huge and freshly fried served with sour cream and apple sauce. The best I've had. Restaurant was clean, the two gentleman working were friendly and efficient and I will definitely be going back. 5 stars all around!! read more

I have been to the location in Lincroft and enjoyed my food and experience. I was highly interested when my Dad mentioned this new spot in Jackson. I checked it out on Yelp and it has a pretty poor rating and I was interested to see if that was truly justified. As many others had mentioned, the lay out of the restaurant is confusing and very awkward. It lacks flow and you end up practically tripping over the other patrons both when ordering and paying. I was very surprised to find the comments about the manager were 100% accurate. It was hard to ignore the him barking and belittling the young staff. He was the one to take my order. Right in the middle writing my order down he stopped and started taking the order of a woman who wanted to add something to the order she had already placed. No "Excuse me", "Pardon me", "Can you wait one moment, please?", "Sorry, I'll be right back with you"... it's like I disappeared. It was pretty rude. I ordered the medium pastrami ruben, a small order of potato latkas and what I thought were going to be 2 large dill pickles (you know the kind you used to find in a big barrel in grocery stores). I aimed for everything they claimed to specialize in in one meal. When I was rung up, I noticed there was only one pickle. I told the cashier I asked for two. She said I something about I only ordered a medium sandwich so I only get one. I thought I was buying the pickles. I guess you can't? Then why have a big ol' pickle bar on display? Anyway, the jerky manager came up and tells me "Oh, I know what you want." He comes back with 2 small pickles and said they are their "half sours". Um, ok, whatever. Not sure what happened there but I can hardly get upset over pickles. My total was $25. A little steep for a sandwich, a side, a pickle and 2 sodas. But I guess IF they make the pastrami in house, it's worth the premium price (not sure they do though). The hot pastrami ruben was good. Not great though. Not as terrible as some of the other reviews made it seem. I'd say is perhaps a smidge over Jersey diner quality. The pastrami was moist, flavorful and neither too fatty or not fatty enough. The portion was appropriate for me personally. If you're expecting a Carnegie Deli mountainous type sandwich, you will be disappointed. The bread was only toasted on one side and it was a bit soggy/greasy. I did drive 10 minutes back to work with it so maybe the steam in the wax paper made it fall apart more. The bread didn't taste or look like rye, which is used in traditional rubens. The latkas were good as well. The portion was large for something described as a "side". I would have preferred to have had just 2 with a small order instead of 4, as I could not finish them all. Overall, the food was pretty decent. The manager is mean, the customer service is poor and the whole operation needs some major adjustments. The location is relatively convenient for me. The design of the strip mall it is in is harder to get into if you coming from the south or the east though. Parking is usually pretty plentiful. I'm not sure if you can order delivery from here but not having to go in at all may give you a better overall experience if you decide to try it. read more

I enjoyed my pastrami sandwich with a side of cucumber and tomato salad. The pastrami was juicy and hot, and the rye bread was fresh. The customer has three options for the size of the sandwich. I had the 11 oz., which is filling. They also have a great selection of fountain sodas. I did not find the set up confusing. Food was ok but not great. Ordered the graduate sandwich which was different, a bit messy, but tasty. We also ordered pastrami sandwiches and was surprised that American cheese was on the sandwich. I think a Swiss or provolone would have been better. Ordered some fries and there could have been more topping but fries were hot. New owner since August 2022 so I thought I'd give this place a 2nd chance. I'm so glad I did! Totally different from my first visit in 2021...corned beef was hot, tender, and delicious. Bread was fresh. Pickle cold and crisp. Cole slaw outstanding, and the matzo ball soup hit the spot! And the service was over the top! I walked in close to closing time and felt bad about that but the 2 young men working made me feel very welcome. Nice change from the grumps that previously worked there. I'm moving out of the area but will definitely make it a point to come back every so often. read more

Had very high hopes for this place when it opened. Unfortunately I, and apparently many others, have been sorely disappointed! Prices are way too high for the skimpy portions...massively thick bread and chewy Rye bread with barely any meat. Coleslaw was good, but when I order a Reuben, I expect to taste more than just slaw... What little meat was on the sandwich was fatty and not very appetizing. The only reason this is 2 stars is because their salads were actually pretty good. On another note, the manager (owner?) is super rude and condescending to his employees in front of the customers and is very loud about it. Don't bother ordering a small because 4 oz. of meat is was nearly enough to taste over the bread, coleslaw and dressing. What little meat that it had in it was super fatty and rather bland. The only reason they get 2 stars instead of 1 is their salads which were actually pretty good and they were very friendly. What a wonderful find! Driving by and saw pastrami and stopped in for sandwiches. Very friendly folks. We ordered lean pastrami (one of us needed gluten free bread, which they had) and waited for the kind of mediocre pastrami (might actually be corned beef) that we have become accustomed to locally. They brought out pastrami like I haven't had in decades. Lean, delicious, and certainly not corned beef. As a bonus, they had chocolate egg cream in the soda fountain. We will make a point of stopping when in Jackson and also drive down just for an occasional sandwich. read more

What a joke this place is. You have to walk all the way to the back of the place to order your food. The kid that takes the order is kind of arrogant. Then you walk all the way to the front of the place and you have to stand there looking at the somewhat unfriendly gal at the register who can't take your money till your food is ready and your name is called. So you stand in the front of the place looking at the girl at the register, the 6 or 7 employees behind the counter stumbling over each other cause they have no idea how to put the orders together and a nasty looking man who stands there watching it all and not doing anything. So after waiting a good 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches, my name is called, I pay, and I leave. I get home to my starving wife who can't wait to taste the sandwich. We open the food up and sure enough, our order was totally wrong! So instead of going back, figuring out what the process is for retuning the sandwiches, we decide to eat them. Well the food was actually horrible. The pastrami was tasteless and had a very weird texture. The corned beef was even worse. I do not recommend this place at all. Do yourself a favor and patronize the bagel place in a few doors down, or even go to the WaWa. Foods better, service is better, and prices are MUCH better read more

My expectations were honestly higher. The set up is strange - having to stand in back and order while the owner sits in the booth behind you and shouts out commands to his workers, as if they didn't know what they were supposed to do. The matzo ball soup was ok but definitely not like grandmas homemade. The corned beef was dry and just not enough for the price. The size of the bread slice was tiny for rye. I ordered their "Office Special" which was a huge platter of assorted sandwiches and came with a large salad and a large pasta salad. My office went nuts over it. It fed 11 people with leftovers. Will be ordering again for sure! read more

Owners are nice and try hard, but should visit some established delis to see how things are done. Sandwiches were skimpy and the meat was shredded to chipped beef consistency. They said their slicing machines could only be set to thin or thick, so there wasn't anything they could do about it. Taste was good. Not sure if we'll return to see if things improve. read more

I have been frequenting Pastrami House in Jackson since they opened earlier this year, about every 2 to 3 weeks. I love a hot pastrami sandwich on rye with russian dressing, also hot corned beef. So that's what went for. In the beginning the pastrami was good, tasty with little fat. As I continued to go the pastrami got tougher with lots of fat and hard to chew, also the meat was coming out warm instead of Hot as I had asked for. I even reminded to counter person to "please make it Hot." I switched to hot corned beef instead of pastrami and was more satisfied with that. I still had the problem of getting it Hot. It isn't as though they are very busy when I go, there is usually only one or 2 other tables of 2 people and myself. I willing to wait for the food to be prepared properly and to the customers liking. I also have to add that the little container of cole slaw they serve with the sandwich has not always be cold, usually warm and it doesn't have any good taste. Today, 12 April 2022, I again had the Hot corned beef that was warm again, even after telling the counter person, owner/manager, to "please make sure it is hot," it wasn't, Again. During my visit the owner/manager was using a slicing knife to break away some ice that had built up along the edges of the Bain Marie/cold display unit to hold the pickled items, the ice chips were falling into the various hotel pans...eech not very sanitary, then the person used the knife to stir the pickels a few of the pans. When I paid, I was asked "did the sandwich hit the spot?", my reply was "Yes, but it wasn't Hot as I asked for." Then I mentioned to the owner/manager that what he was doing in the bain marie was "unsanitary" to which he replied "it's only ice" and I replied "it's contaminated ice and you used the dirty knife to stir some of the pickles" I tried to support a new business in the town where I live, but I can NO Longer continue to do so, after what I witnessed today and the fact that I have been unsatisfied with not getting a HOT sandwich on numerous occasions. The owner/manager (whatever he is) is going to destroy this place. Both times I came here I got pastrami reubens and they were delicious!! The owner, however, was micromanaging his staff, constantly yelling at them, and overall disrupting the flow. Treat your staff with respect and they will run your business for you and make you money. I happened to see this restaurant while passing by. For a short period of time the place was occupied by a bakery. I have been in the food business for over 50 years. I am currently working (part time) as a Food Safety & Quality Consultant after retiring in 2011 from an International airline caterer as a Food Safety Manager for the northeast. I have some issues with the food and process from Pastrami House. POSITIVE - I called in an order and was told it would be ready in about 15 minutes., and it was ready. negative - I was not informed that the sandwiches came with a pickle wedge and coleslaw. Therefore I had ordered 2 pickles and 2 orders of potato salad as sides for me and my wife. NEGATIVE - The potato salad was blech. Standard supermarket potato salad, not restaurant quality. negative - The pickles were huge but not necessary due to the ones coming with the sandwiches. NEGATIVE - The sandwiches. #1 - My wife wanted brisket. Her complaint was that it was too dry. There was enough meat on the sandwich. #2 - I ordered the corned beef on rye. It looked like they saved up the small pieces of meat that fall off when you slice a corned beef brisket, and that was what they put on my sandwich. There wasn't a single whole slice of meat on the sandwich. From the appearance, it was obvious that there were slices from the meat from different days, and the meat was dry. The rye was too fluffy. A meat sandwich should be on hearty bread, preferably with a good crust. My wife didn't finish her sandwich or potato salad. The leftovers went into the trash. I didn't finish my sandwich and potatoes either. The leftovers also went into the trash. NEGATIVE - On top of all that, I compared the receipt with the menu that I picked up at the counter and found some discrepancy's. First of all, there are no descriptions on the receipt for the sides. They all show as 2 custom Items ( potato salad), 1 custom item(2 pickles) and 1 custom item (soda). The potato salad was priced correctly. The soda was priced correctly. The pickles were $2,00 each. They were on the menu at $1.95 each. The price on the menu for the brisket sandwich and the corned beef sandwich were $8.95 each. On the receipt, each sandwich was charged at $9.31 each. This is a total overcharge of $0.82. No big deal if the value added was superior. Since the value was poor, the overcharge is just another reason to avoid this restaurant. They haven't started advertising yet. My suggestion is don't waste your money advertising. read more

I think the pastrami had a strange texture, the Reuben bread was not really toasted and was soggy/greasy. The corned beef had good flavor. Staff was very friendly and my order was made correctly.
