    Chocolate, chocolate mousse ganache cake

Tucked away in an Altadena shopping center, the chocolate ganache cake is to die for!!! Layered between the chocolate cake is a light fluffy chocolate mousse filling then whole cake is enveloped in a rich and decadent ganache (it's not too sweet)! I've been ordering my cakes from here for years! At my "mom friend" birthday celebrations this is the most requested cake. Be sure to call and order a few days ahead as this cake takes time to create!

Came here for our wedding cake. We scheduled a cake tasting appointment, the options were delicious and the presentation of the tasting was very cute and romantic. The owner personally went over the design options and explained everything in detail even provided recommendations. I am very pleased with the outcome (flowers and ribbon not included). If you want quality and simplicity with a personal and professional touch I highly recommend this bakery.

Red velvet Mini cake: four different types and only $12!

I always come here for birthday cakes. They have this cake called "mini" cake that is not really a mini size. They have four flavors, but my favorite is CHOCOLATE. A must try :)

They made my wedding cake in 2007 and it was delicious!!!! I had a cake made for more people than the number of guests attending and still we finished it all! I had red velvet, vanilla and chocolate and all were great! The buttercream frosting was fantastic too!

They were on the preferred vendors list for a wedding cake for Altadena town and country club. We went to do a cake testing and the Bavarian creme and white cake was so delicious! The owner was very nice and accommodating. He made sure the cake was design to what I wanted and was flexible to deliver the cake to venue with a short notice on time change. Thank you!

We ordered a three tier cake for our October 2010 wedding from Pastries by Nancy, and it was excellent! When my now husband and I went for a cake tasting somewhere else and had an awful experience, we decided to drop by Pastries by Nancy since we were in the area. We gave them a 20 minute heads up before hand, and asked if we could come for a cake tasting and they obliged, which we weren't expecting at all. They were very accommodating and polite in person and on the phone. When we finally arrived for the tasting, they had all the flavors available (and arranged beautifully), except for carrot cake, which was what we really wanted to taste. Sean asked me if I could come back another day and he'd have a sample for me to take home, so I came back next week and he made us a full sized carrot cake for free! The best part was that IT WAS THE BEST CARROT CAKE I'VE EVER HAD! My husband and I loved it so much that we had them make all 3 tiers carrot cake. The day of our wedding there weren't any problems with the cake at all. It was absolutely beautiful and was everything we'd asked for in design and taste. On our 1 year wedding anniversary I ordered a carrot cake from PBD to celebrate, and it was just as good as I remember it!

    Chocolate ganache cake

I ordered this for a friend via DoorDash. The cake I originally ordered wasn't available which was fine because the one I got was what I actually wanted anyway but saw after I already placed the order. They called me to let me know and gave me great options and communicated everything well. Couldn't have been easier - thanks, Jesus. I'm writing this as a thank you to them. My friend sent me a picture of the cake and it looks even better than I imagined. My expectations weren't super high since I haven't done this before but they completely blew me away. I'll be ordering with them again for future birthdays.

Does this look like a bakery too busy to make a customer wait an hour and then not apologize?!
    Leah M.

If we were rating the idiot owner's attitude, I wouldnt give any stars! He's a MAJOR a*hole who messed up my order, didn't apologize and then told me that if I was going to give him attitude, he wasn't going to sell me the cake that I had just waited 45 mins for him to fix!!! I have been going to PBN since 1999 and unfortunately will now find a place where the customer is appreciated. It's unfortunate the previous owners sold the business to this guy. If you want a delicious white or marble cake with bavarian cream filling and a ton of crappy service, this is the place!!! I started to write my review as I waited for my cake but the poor lady working there begged me to not post this as she was the only employee left and if any less customers came in, she would lose her job. I told her it wasn't personal and that people needed to know. Poor thing needs to let her boss know instead of me. Sorry for her but my fellow Yelpers need to be warned!!!

Mold on a cake purchased on 8/31/13.....BEWARE!!!
    Tina D.

This place deserves (0) stars! I've been purchasing cakes here since the original owner Nancy, now when Nancy owned the place there were no complaints. Under the new owner Shaun (rude) i ordered a quincenera cake for my daughter well when the day came the cake looked nothing like we ordered or paid extra to have decorated, it was delivered to our event and not decorated it was just plain. I went to him and he gave some lame excuse and refunded me 150.00 then my sisters baby shower came we ordered a cake which again was not decorated. The owner said to us if we didn't like it we didn't have to come back and we will not be going back ever!! This past weekend my friend had a birthday party for her daughter and ordered from Pastries by Nancy and boy what a surprise when the cake was cut it had mold. I think Shaun tries to save money by baking the cakes early in the week when they are closed and keeps them as long as possible. Shaun bites off more than he can chew by taking on sooooo many orders he can't fill. The cakes are baked early in the week and because there is no room in the fridge the cakes spend time on the table outside where its hot. I would warn anyone before they even consider purchasing anything from here beware MOLD!!!

our disappointing and sad wedding cake with the ugliest monogram :(

Once we got to the counter everything was quick because they just pack everything up right away. I ordered the Spinach Feta Croissant ($8.40), Berry Danish ($6.95), and Turkey Ham & Gruyere Croissant ($8.50). The berry danish was cleared out at the front glass but I asked if they had more coming in the back and luckily they did. The other two were ordered from the glass displays. I wouldn't say they're the best croissants I've ever had, but they were still pretty good. Only thing with the ham and cheese croissant was that I cut it in half the short way to share (so you would think both halves would have an even distribution of everything) but all the ham was pushed to one side that their half literally had no ham in it. There were a lot of other things on display that looked really good so when I venture out to this part of town I'll have to come back and give those a try. I definitely recommend coming in early because a lot of things in the front displays were cleared out by the time we got to the front. They do keep making more but it's not a guarantee.

We were done about an hour before our reservation time. We hoped to be accommodated earlier but saw the long line and crowd waiting as we drove by. We decided to run a couple small errands instead. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. It was still busy, but there were not as many people waiting. The hostess was so warm and welcoming. She let us know that the customers at our designated table were almost done and that they will have it ready in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, those customers decided to linger much longer. Thirty minutes later, they were still hanging around. We fully understood that this was not by any fault of the restaurant. We continued to wait patiently. The hostess was very apologetic and was trying to work out a solution which led to the Floor Manager (Karla) getting involved. We were eventually seated at another table, with the option to move should the other table become available. Karla then took the time to apologize for the wait and unfortunate first impression. As we got started with drinks and a pastry for the daughter, the other table opened. The hostess immediately came to move us. It all went smoothly from there. Table service was casual and attentive. We started with the Chocolate Almond Croissant and the Baguette & Bordier Butter. The daughter tried the Iced Matcha Latte. For our entrées -- Shakshuka, Patty Melt and Brioche Eggs Benedict (with salmon). I was eager to try the Potato Gravlax, but it was sold out. :( Everything was so, so delicious! Fresh and flavorful. Lovely presentations. Very good portions. As we were finishing, Karla came to our table again to express her gratitude for our patience and understanding. She gave me her business card with an offer to contact her directly should we need another reservation. On our way out, I stopped to compliment the sweet young hostess for a job well done. Wonderful experience. Beautiful decor. I would give Oh La La 10 stars if I could! We will most certainly be back!
