There was lavender ice cream ($4) and free lavender lemonade and lavender mint tea. Capay Valley Vineyards was there for wine tasting and you could purchase a bottle ($$??) and drink it on site. Parking was not bad, even though we had to park on S.R.16 and walk in about a block and a half. I was a great, sunny, warm day for a little fun in the Capay Valley.

If you care about regenerative agriculture and nutrient density, this is the gold standard for Northern California. The absolute standout for me was MyHarvestValley.com . I'm a huge advocate for soil health, and their regenerative walnuts are a masterclass in what happens when you treat the land right. You can actually taste the difference, it's not just a snack; it's high-quality fuel. I ended up spending quite a bit of time there just appreciating the transparency of their process. Beyond the walnuts, the entire market is a treasure trove: The Meat & Produce: I was struck by the selection of properly raised meats and organic produce. Finding proteins raised with this much integrity is rare, and the variety of healthy eating choices made it easy to load up for the week. The Nursery Finds: I didn't expect to be scouted for my garden, but I saw some of the prettiest Japanese maple starts I've ever laid eyes on. The health and structure of those starts were stunning. The Vibe: It's rare to find a market that balances such a wide variety of specialty goods while maintaining that authentic, community-focused energy. So I paid for a month in advance (you pay by check either by the month or the quarter) and waited for my first pick up. Fortunately there are a few options for picking up your box in Napa (check their website to see if there's one nearby you) including one only a mile away from our home. Yeah! The pickup location, at least in my area, is in someone's carport which is fairly typical of CSAs, thank goodness for volunteers. Just verify your pick up by signing the clipboard by your name, grab your box or unload it into your own bags (if you take the box return it in your next visit) then prepare to be wowed by the amazing produce. Each week is a little but different and changes along with the season. What's always in the box is the most beautiful organic produce I've ever seen. This weeks box had a bunch of gorgeous rainbow chard which was sautéed along with Fatted Calf sweet sausage served on top of Model bread with poached eggs. Best chard ever! I've posted a few pics of the last few boxes, judge for yourself, Riverdog Farm is amazing. It doesn't get any better than this. PS... They also raise organic fed hogs and chickens. Picked up my first pork share (delivered along with my regular box pick up) and the cuts look so tasty. Can not wait to braise the fresh hocks. I was pretty confident that I'd written about Riverdog in the past and was somewhat shocked to see that I praised only their eggs in my short initial review. Yes, the eggs are great, and everyone knows it. But I can make a long, long list of Riverdog products that consider to be top notch: green garlic, raw chickens, pork chops, carrots, daikons, asparagus tips, onions, black radishes, little gems when they're available, .... At the moment, their early girl and heirloom tomatoes are truly excellent. In recent weeks, I've gotten their squash and green beans -- excellent again, of course. Riverdog prices are not outrageous, in view of the high quality. Their wares merit a detour. The farmers (Trini and Tim) and their employees (shout out here for Becky) are all super-nice. Vendors are lined up on both sides creating a long straight walk with some of the area under a covered pavilion. There was a lot to see--produce, nuts, honey, meats, cheese, chocolates, baked goods, flowers, plants, arts & crafts, & more. Organizations also had booths set up on the end opposite the pavilion. Street performers added musical entertainment. It's a neat stroll & a lot of people were out browsing & purchasing. The park offers a nice setting to enjoy any eats you purchase & there are restroom facilities. Note--Signage states no animals are allowed where food is sold (except for service animals).

The vendors are always welcoming, and there's such a great sense of community. It's wonderful to see so many people coming together to support local farmers, makers, and small businesses. Most of the merchants accept CREDIT CARD, making the experience smoother. There is 1 (one) coffee truck with breads if you need your caffeine fix. Situated in the plazas parking lot so parking is ample, however, there are signs posted with restrictions for farmers market visitors. When we visited on 2/28, there were 3 rows of stalls. I really enjoyed walking up and down checking out every booth. I loved the variety of food trucks and fresh farm stands to unique artisan booths with things such as pottery, wood crafts, jewelry, and more.
