I had the Grain bowl which was full of shredded cabbage, quinoa, parsnips, and amazing roasted sweet potatoes that created a perfect balance between crazy healthy and a bit of sweet! A new must have! Then I saw my friends soup and then I had to get a bowl of that as well! Chicken pinto bean Sopa de Lima with veggies and delicious chicken! Fantastic! Grain bowl was my other item. I added steak to it. Grain bowl had fresh healthy ingredients, but flavors were off and could have been cooked more. Swedish almond cake was good. They had lots of items to choose from but we all went for the Caesar salad wrap and I chose mine with a side salad. It was huge and super tasty. I'm writing this in anger at myself... why haven't I come here sooner? I grabbed lunch here. It's so spacious, I'm surprised it's not busier! They offer some cooking related goods, wine, meal kits, deli items, baked goods and other beverages. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with the horseradish cream on the side. The caramelized onions were fantastic! I loved the edges of the sandwich because they had some crunch to it. I'm not a fan of horseradish so I opted it on the side, adding it sparingly. The salad was refreshing. The side of potatoes were SOOOO good. I've never had something as crispy as these! I'll be back again for lunch! read more

It took a while for me to get to this place because I was under the impression they were only open on weekdays, and only until around lunchtime. PSA THIS IS FALSE - they now have a Friday fish fry dinner and are open Saturday mornings for brunch. We came in for brunch around 10:30 and were greeted with the cutest takeaway market with frozen meals, wine, local beers, and fun home things from places like Green Life Trading Co (a Madison based company!). So, like, they are SUPER into local. They had a sweet and a savory brunch special up on the board, so we decided to try the benedict off the normal menu plus the sweet special. The special was caramelized apple French toast with thick, soft slices and a dollop of butter (key) topped with pretty pink cooked apples. SO yum!! I am always impressed when the individual elements of a benedict are all perfect in their own right--runny yolk that bursts forth once you pierce the egg, salty juicy (and ample! Don't skimp me on protein!) ham, a tender English muffin that you don't have to fight/saw through, and hollandaise that doesn't feel overbearing. PASTURE AND PLENTY, I AM FLOORED. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. I've tried it now three times and all three times I've gone the staff has been super, painfully slow and not at all pleasant or helpful. All three times they weren't serving the brunch as stated on their website and the food is just bland, if not stale and old. Too bad. This place has such potential. Outstanding walleye (pan fried with cornmeal) and fried smelt for Friday fish fry and all of the side dishes are fresh, balanced and healthy. The cocktails are well crafted though a little premium priced given the vessel size. Bonus points for the staff being so willing to correct anything out of order and over deliver on customer service--it's a lost art and very appreciated. I pre ordered the Pork Tacos for two and they were accommodating to one meal being dairy free. We picked it up and it was ready in a few short minutes. Unfortunately when we got to our destination to eat we noticed one taco meal had no tortillas. My friend gave me a tortilla to use and I ate some pork just with the side of rice. We weren't sure if the rice was supposed to be cold. It was decent tasting. I think the staff that checked our order out was training a new staff member so I can imagine she had multiple duties going on at once. However it was disappointing to not have the full experience of the tacos meal. The corn tortillas were blue corn and very good. My friend and I both raved about the pork being so great as we ate it! This is a new market/deli in the Regent neighborhood that specializes in meal kits and to-go dinners. They had a soft open this last week. We tried their first to-go Weds dinner - both a meat based one and a vegetarian one. (There was one choice for each.) We appreciated the locally sourced food and ingredients. The meal was healthy and flavorful (and even better for lunch on the second day). The dessert was the best part -- super yummy. The online ordering option was appreciated. We could not pick up our dinner until 5 pm - a little earlier would have been helpful for those of us who have littles that are used to an early dinner. Cost was high ($70 for five meals) but the convenience cannot be beat. It was also a lot of food - we fed seven people with five meals and still had leftovers. There are some kinks to work out but overall we were pleased and felt this was a good addition. read more

I was excited to try this spot. They have plant based printed right on the window, so I figured they must have at least a few good options. I went inside and checked out the menu, but didn't see anything that I would classify as plant based or vegan. Asked the person at the counter what they offered, and she first told me that basically everything was plant based. And then changed that to they could modify a few things. Told me the pesto bowl was what she would recommended. I asked if the pesto had cheese in it. She told me just nails and pine nuts. I asked again, no Parmesan? She said she was pretty sure not, but she could check with the kitchen. Checked with the kitchen and they said it does have cheese. I didn't end up getting anything. The bowl without the sauce sounded pretty boring, and there really wasn't anything originally made plant based. This seemed like a neat spot and I would like to like it. However, if they're advertising plant based on the window as more than just a trendy buzz word, I think they should have at least one plant based dish on the menu (and really probably more than one). And have their folks trained on what that means and what on the menu is or isn't plant based or easily modifiable. It's a nice space. They say their getting local ingredients, which is cool if it's true. But I guess you can't believe everything they're advertising unfortunately. read more

I've stopped in a few times and have always been impressed. My last stop was during lunch and I ordered the braised pork sandwich. As a sucker for everything pork, I was not disappointed. I loved that the sharpness and heat of the giardiniera and the arugula helped balance the richness of the pork, Size wise, they definitely don't skimp and I was more than satisfied. They also have some great beers on tap (as well as in the case). Price wise, it may not be the cheapest of lunches but given the quality of the ingredients and the execution, I am more than happy to oblige. A great neighborhood spot. read more

Went for lunch. All I can say is wow. Before even eating anything I was impressed. The interior looks great and is quite big. For food I got the soup of the day and a small salad. The salad was fabulous with light dressing and fresh local veggies. Soup could have been a little hotter but the taste was excellent. It also came with two delicious pieces of bread. We needed a place like this near UW Hospital! So glad they expaned. It's a gorgeous, bright space with communal tables. Breakfast pastries, toasts, and smoothies. Kickapoo coffee. Lunch consists of a small variety of high quality sandwiches and specials. Prices are in the $3-5 range for pastries and basic toasts, $6-9 for sandwiches and specials. Daily soup comes with nice foccacia. My ham and guyere sandwich was great. Soup was good, though not what I expected (carrot was the first word in the title and I had exactly one piece of carrot). Really wanted a piece of rose cardamom cake, but I already overdid it worth both soup and sandwich, since the sandwich is huge and the soup came with bread (that should just be an add on, not automatic IMO). This is the company that will use their space for employee dining rather than for their costumers. Multiple employees are eating drinking working on their computers in the cafe but costumers are not allowed to do so. The shopping experience made the customer feel that they are not good enough to keep up with their culture. Only to-go food during lunch. The owners were wonderful to work with in planning the event that met my budget and exceeded my gastronomical needs. They created a 3-course wine-paired dinner that required a lot of personalization to meet a variety of dietary requirements for individuals in our group. They created personalized menus which was unexpected and a classy touch. The primary dinner was a salad of farro, rainbow carrots, rainbow chard, cranberries, hickory nuts and fromage blanc paired with a white wine; braised short ribs (so tender!) with a red wine Demi-glacé, goat cheese and chive mashed potatoes (rich and creamy)and herb-roasted Brussels sprouts (tasty!) paired with a red wine; and for dessert chocolate pot de crepe with Kirsch Creme (to die for!) paired with a port. The attendees raved about the food and the venue. Some folks walked away with some to-go items from the cases and many have asked to do future events here. Went to P&P for the Friday fish last night. We all had the pan-fried walleye and we were all impressed. So delicious, and a good-sized portion of food. The sides that came with the meal were also very good. I think there are 5 sides to choose from, it was a difficult choice because they all sounded so good. I had the onion gratin and the kale salad. Also, the bun that was served with the meal was really good. It had cheese in it and on it. Very moist, mmm good. Quick service and friendly staff. read more

Buttery flakey crust and a delicious filling full of chicken and veg. And a great price too and enough food for two. Tonight we cooked up the lamb moussaka we got yesterday, and thawed til today in the fridge. Again delicious and full of lamb and veg and superbly seasoned. Both times I also got foccacia with a delicious bacon topping. Just as good as the frozen and their frozen takeaway food is so good. So you're wondering why not 5 stars? I bought a brownie and it was cakey. I like fudgey brownies. If I liked cakey...well this would be a 5 star review. Seriously...go to this place, get something from their freezer case, take it home and be amazed at the amount of food and how great the flavors are. Update. The lamb moussaka was so much food that it easily served us two for two days. And it was just as good on day two! I like those containers the frozen food comes in too.
