Inn stay: 5. Event experience: 3. We received a call from Debbie the day of check-in letting us know our room was ready early, if we wished to check in ahead of time. Upon arrival, it was so helpful to have our own assigned parking spot. As soon as we entered the lobby, Debbie was a delight and greeted me by name; she escorted us to our suite and showed us the amenities and answered any questions we had. The room was clean and spacious, and the grounds along the Sugar River were lovely. We were immensely pleased with our stay. The Seafood Soirée event felt hodge-podge. VIPs didn't get any sort of band to tip off the bartenders that our drinks were free for the first hour; two separate times I heard staff in other areas talking about workers getting placed behind the bar without being trained (one resulted in a coordinator having to comp a bottle of wine as the bar staff was misinformed). So the lines were long, the chairs should have been pulled away from the bar as they got in the way and people tried to sit in them. Trying to meet Andrew Zimmern as a person with manners was difficult as staff didn't even attempt to keep order and people kept budging in without waiting. The food served during the VIP hour was underwhelming. Then we get to 4 pm and walk out to the stations to find the food wasn't ready. Cue milling about. Then the two chef celebrities didn't even speak on time. We eventually left early and went back to our room. So regarding coordinating and hosting an event, they really missed the mark. We would definitely stay at the Inn again, and in fact are already talking about returning. But would we spend a few hundred dollars to attend an event there again? No. read more

I'll withhold or temper complaints because of the excellent service reconciliation. I'll limit those complaints to the following. 1. Not all old fasioneds in Wisconsin are great. 2. Not all cheese in Wisconsin are worth getting excited over. Ok. That seems fair in light of their efforts. Don't hang a sign saying walkins welcomed on the sidewalk when you treat those that walk in like they're not. Our server was attentive-not quite to a fault-and responded quickly. Truly great fish fry. Top 5 in Dane county. Their short rib was amazing. Tender. Polenta cubes delicious. Veggies great. They both suffered from the same problem. Staging. For the fish fry the fries were at best ambient room temp. For the short rib the polenta was the same. They both lose their temp fast. So. Someone plated them first and then the meat was super temp hot at serving. Time it better-freshman error. But I stand by it. Mostly great tasting food. Really good service. Surprisingly nice spot for a rural Wisconsin town. Food was really tasty and the staff were really friendly. On a nice day the patio outside is a lovely place to sit. There happened to be live music playing in the field across the creek so we got to enjoy that as well. Honestly, for a rural Wisconsin town this is a 5 star spot. Burger was excellent. A beautiful Spring night enjoying a classic fish fry (for me) while the hubby had chicken marsala and deviled eggs for an appetizer. Food was delicious! Vibes were immaculate! Beautiful patio, bar, and even a small area to sit right in front of the open kitchen if you like that concept. Fun date night. We grabbed Yahtzee and played a few games which was fun. Went here for brunch on a Sunday and it was pretty good. We got a table quickly, even though parking was crazy. Also to note, the cafe part doesn't do food other than the baked goods and ice cream during the brunch time. We didn't realize this until we went to order at the cafe. They also have a jazz band playing during brunch to add a fun atmosphere. Our waitress was quick to get our order and we just ordered two of the biscuit sandwiches, the brown Swiss and the Prince Wolliam. We also got a honey and cardamom miel. The Prince Wolliam was my preferred of the two sandwiches. It was a great combo of sweet and savory. The Brown Swiss was also pretty good, because what's not to love about biscuits and maple syrup, but the bacon on the sandwich wasn't crispy, so it made it a little difficult to eat. Sandwiches also come with fruit or potatoes, so we got one of each. The potatoes were fried to perfection. Just the perfect amount of crispiness for me! The drink was very tasty and well made. It was smooth and had had a lot of fat in it. Spiced citrus shake was my favorite item here. It was vanilla soft serve shake with a strong orange and cardamom flavors. That being said.... 5 stars for their specials - aka Summer Fish Fry's (outdoors) or the visiting chef series in the winter! This was a great experience, family style with chefs from around the nation. It's an entire event and worthwhile one in town. The summer fish fry is AYCE and definitely one of the best in the Madison area. The service for all of these is fantastic. Nothing but great things to say about them, they're welcoming and attentive. I made reservations for brunch while they had jazz going on. You probably don't need reservations unless you have a large group. There's plenty of parking in the back (there happened to be lots of cars on the street but you don't really need to do that). Service was great! Zero complaints here. Good 4.5/5 Cinnamon roll: not so sweet! Makes you want to eat more. More dense of a cinnamon roll vs a light, fluffy airy roll, but I think the density paired well with crisp outside. I ordered the steak hash: get that hollandaise! My only complaint here is that for $18 there were 3 small pieces of steak. Flavor wise, so buttery, perfectly salted. Now I generally hate breakfast potatoes (the quartered kind) but they sure got it right here. I had a bite of the waffle and it was soooo crispy! Mmmmmm. I would recommend trying the small plates, but you will want to order 2-3 if it is in leu of your entree. Where this place fell short in our opinion was in their service and their pricing. With an elevated menu and pricing, we expected the service to reflect that but it did not. When we arrived they almost seated us at a table they knew was too wobbly until the people sitting next to it spoke up. We were given a wrong small plate and weren't told about it until minutes later. And the timing of the plates was all over the place whether they came out sporadically or after tables who ordered well after us. While the food was unforgettable, the service left a lot to be desired. If we ever eat here again, I would get the food to go. read more

We eventually chose Seven Acre for our annual family holiday dinner out this year, and admittedly were a little thrown off at the ease of getting a reservation when quite a few other options were booked out. Attracted to the idea of a casual, less pricey dinner though we committed and headed here on a Saturday night. Six adults ready for a night out! It was a little slow to start, with our server clearly busy with several other tables. Once we got past that everything was quite timely. Our server was pleasant but not at all engaged, which was in stark contrast to the manager who stopped by the table several times to ensure all was well. This got a little awkward after the second time but appreciate the effort. Overall impressions - get the broccolini! Fantastic. Great flavor, perfect chew! My husband had the waygu and thought it was good but felt the sauce was a little off. I had the sliders and felt like I could have done the same thing at home and maybe even a little better - definitely lacking something. Maybe toast the bun? The Wisco fries were good - the grand chu is shaved or in crumbles and doesn't overwhelm the fries. Would have liked to see an aioli instead of ketchup. Other thoughts about the meal included the feeling that the soup was lukewarm, the mushroom pasta needed a bit of salt, and the curds were good but almost a touch too salty. Mom loved the fish trio option. I'd come again if it's convenient but as always with Madison, there are so many great options in the area that it's hard to keep the average ones top of mind. Hard to believe I had one of my most expensive breakfasts ever at this very cute restaurant in this tiny little artsy town. But I did. You see, the only option was a buffet that I failed to check out the price before sitting down. There were many options at the buffet, but honestly nothing really worth the price, which ended up at about $30 each with tip. I'll post photos so you can see what we got. Beyond the cost, the ambiance is good, with live music and a cute little dairy to shop in. And they serve beer and cocktails, too. Service is good, but I find it hard to calculate an appropriate tip when the only thing the waiter brings you is a beer and the check. As always, your mileage may vary. I was very excited to try this place out and it was ok. My meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite what I had expected either. The bloosy mary was solid, but not one I'd order again. It was listed on the menu as having "all the fixings" but that meant a giant lemon wedge, 2 large olives and a pickle, which isn't impressive. The huevos rancheros were solid, but there are way too many chips. The chips are thicker and they soak up all of the ranchero sauce. There was also supposed to be a crema, but the chips must have overwhelmed that as well. It had good flavor, just poor execution. It is visually appealing though. read more

We stayed here for a weekend and enjoyed all of the various businesses encompassed in Seven Acre Dairy Co. Unfortunately, I wish that the three businesses were listed separately, because there were pros and cons to each. HOTEL: We stayed in the Pabst room for a long weekend, which was an ADA accessible room (and the only room available when we booked). We got a good rate for the room (about $160/night I think), but for what the room was, this is really the absolute upper limit of what I think this room is worth. We struggled finding a place for both of us to charge our phones & watches for the night, as there was only one nightstand and very few plugs that weren't hidden behind furniture. The room had a stunning wall of windows directly in front of the bed, but we didn't have much privacy (there were some shrubs to obscure a bit of the view to the parking lot) unless we put down the floor to ceiling blackout curtains. I wish there was a way to preserve the fantastic natural light but also not feel like we were on display. It was a nice treat to have some fresh baked cookies waiting for us at checkin and access to all the drip coffee we wanted (for free!) from the dairy bar down the hall. While the main things were available, some of the small details & experience I'd expect from a high end boutique hotel, which Seven Acre Dairy seems to market itself as. For instance, on checkout day, our key card stopped working 30 minutes before checkout which meant we had to ask for help to be let back into our room when we were loading up our car. DAIRY BAR: This was a cute coffee shop/ice cream shop accessible through the restaurant or walking outside. The coffee was great, and they seemed to have a great selection of other barista made drinks available as well. For the drip coffee, it was great and there was always an option of either dark or medium roast, or later in the day, decaf or regular. They also had rotating pastries available, and those that we had were good but pricey. They also make their own soft serve on site, and I loved the maple flavor! We also ordered sundaes once, though I ordered the dirt & worms and they said they were out of Oreos (aka the dirt) so offered to substitute it with an ingredient of my choice. I didn't know that they were also out of gummy worms so just substituted for gummy bears as well, which are a very different texture for me. Regardless, though on the pricey side, this was another great spot that we enjoyed. RESTAURANT: We also had dinner and brunch at their restaurant. Our dinner was a bit hit and miss. My husband had the roast chicken and I had the corn risotto. His was fantastic, but mine was just okay. The risotto would have been a great side, but as a main, it was missing something, whether a punch of extra flavor or texture in a garnish. We went twice for brunch (there weren't many restaurant options in town!) and enjoyed the live jazz music on the weekends. However, the second time we went for brunch, we sat at the counter facing the kitchen. Oof. If a restaurant isn't going to be meticulous in food handling safety, they should absolutely NOT have an open view into their kitchen from the guests. I saw the expediter regularly touching his face, sampling from the plates about to go out, and not wash his hands in between. Maybe that is okay for safe food handling in Wisconsin, but it kind of put me off from the restaurant after that... Overall, we had a great long weekend at Seven Acre, but can't say we'd be back anytime soon. There's a lot of potential here and this could be a fantastic weekend getaway within 3 hours from Chicago with some adjustments. read more

I don't have the words to describe how incredibly excited I am that the Seven Acre Dairy Co. is here in Paoli! This is a newly constructed and renovated space, that houses a boutique hotel, restaurant, and creamery. The creamery has ice cream, coffee and bakery items, including breakfast sandwiches and quiche, and lunch items as well. The café has been open for just under a week and the restaurant is anticipating opening in the next month... and we we're told the boutique hotel has just started hosting its first guests! We stopped in on a snowy day, not expecting them to be open. Lucky for us, we were given the warmest greeting and a tour of the new spaces by the marketing manager and food and beverage, director. Everyone we encountered was beyond welcoming and kind. You can tell the ownership and management are just all in all, really quality, cool people. The vibe is hip and trendy, with a nod to the history of the past. We were able to have a bite to eat for lunch at the creamery. We enjoyed an oat milk latte and a chai tea, along with a quiche served with micro greens on top and the most delicious dressing. We also shared a cherry muffin and were given complementary samples of the wild rice, ice cream. Everything was delicious! We can't wait to try the restaurant once it's open. We heard there's going to be live piano on Thursday through Saturdays in the lounge. They have an expansive patio that overlooks the sugar river. There will be plenty of outdoor seating in the summer and fall weather, with fire pits and possibly heated globes for outdoor seating in the winter. This is going to be such a fun spot in the summer when live music is played next to the river! Some nice perks include compostable utensils, and accessibility to their spaces, including an elevator for wheelchairs. So happy to have you here! read more

A friend and I went to Seven Acre for their Valentine's Day dinner event last night and it was INCREDIBLE. I have been to 7A maybe 8 times now and this has been the best dinner l've ever had. Bartender Byron recognized me (after only one precious visit) and remembered the drink I ordered. David our server was funny, helpful, and attentive. I want to comment specifically on the Egg, Cheese, and Greens breakfast sandwich. My docs are pushing me to eat more leafy greens and (1) few restaurants provide many options (2) this delicious sandwich is LOADED. Not just nicely sautéed greens on the sandwich but a side salad with greens-that-are-not-iceberg-lettuce (iceberg lettuce is nutritionally equivalent to styrofoam or bellybutton lint). We sat in a dome on a very chilly windy night. And while it was fun to be outside, we didn't expect to be freezing and in our winter jackets the whole time. It was disappointing at how under prepared they were to have guests eating in the domes. They had 4 small space heaters-one of which didn't work. We watched them plug them in as we walked into the dome. One of the pieces to the dome was loose and we were afraid would just blow away at some point. To top it off, the table they had in the dome was their patio furniture with a table cloth over it. Very unstable! The service was average. Our waiter acted like he didn't want to be working outside (and honestly who could blame him haha). He didn't check on us after bringing our food. And we were so cold that we had to go inside to get our check quicker. The food - mixed reviews. We started with the bread and butter board. The bread looked like they went and bought dinner rolls from the grocery store. Not worth the $10. The staff was awesome and Debbie, the innkeeper made us feel so welcome. The chocolate chip cookies are so good that we had to buy more to take home. Paoli is becoming a destination place with the renewed energy of restaurants and beer gardens. This is great to see for a town that doesn't even have a Kwik Trip We ventured down on a Saturday night getting a reservation via Resy earlier that day. The facility is just adorable. A converted dairy that became an art gallery is now transformed into a boutique hotel and two restaurants. The Mai dining room is open and has touches of modern industrial married to old Wisconsin dairy. I especially liked the wood grain on our table. We started with rolls and butter. Everything here is ala cart. The rolls were solid yeast rolls but the butter made the dish. A few salt flakes added a little pop. The two veggies were almost the star of the meal. Never had spinach roots before. Think carrot texture but not as sweet. Perfectly flash fried with sweet and tart dressing to coat. My walleye was pan fried and especially buttery. My wife's pork was Uber tender and mildly spiced letting the pork shine through. We skipped dessert but a few cakes and ice cream floats were available. Decent but basic wine by the glass menu. Looking at the well stocked bar, they must have a better bottle list somewhere. Certainly this is not Harvey House or L'Etoile level dining, but you should consider the short drive to the experience a great new local place. My only complaint is that with high ceilings and hard walls, it's a loud dining room. Whispering love notes to your partner ain't gonna happen. I would love to see them add some noise absorbing materials to the ceiling or walls. read more

We rented one of the domes tonight and the group renting the dome before us ended up staying in the dome later than they were supposed to which pushed back the beginning of our reservation time. Our waiter was so apologetic and offered us free drinks and a starter on the house. That appetizer (the pork belly) ended up being the best dish we've ever had at seven acres! We're honestly so glad that our reservation got pushed back and that we got to try such a delicious dish! Our family loves going to Seven Acre. We've dined there 4 times, and we booked a lovely room for my husband's parents as a gift getaway. The rooms are so unique and beautiful, and we really enjoyed getting coffee, food, drinks and going for walks on the trails without needing to leave the property. I love how passionate the chefs and owner are about sourcing food locally and using foods that unnecessarily go unused (like spinach roots!). For drinks, I highly recommend the Seven 75. It's like a French 75 but with elderflower liqueur... absolutely delish. I also recommend checking out their events with food and live music. We went to the Fat Tuesday dinner recently, and we all loved it. Best chicken wings I've ever had. Perfectly crispy, and the sauce was unique and really tasty. The beignets were so good, people were gobbling them up as fast as the full team of cooks in the kitchen could make them. The jazz band was awesome too. We got there early for seats close to the band. Highly recommended because these events are popular. read more

Edit: I just learned that the food service had only been open for about a week when I visited, so I'll cut them some slack here. Super cute repurposing of an old dairy facility. The hotel rooms look lovely. This, however, is a review of the Dairy Cafe, the daytime counter restaurant. We stopped by a bit after 2:00 on a Saturday. Our party of four ordered a roast beef sandwich, a fancy grilled cheese, and two regular grilled cheeses with soup. For the soup, we ordered a cup of corn chowder and a cup of carrot ginger. Turns out they were out of the carrot ginger, the roast beef, and, somehow, the fancy grilled cheese. So, we ended up with a bunch of grilled cheese sandwiches with corn chowder. And the sandwiches were just okay, under-cheesed and maybe a bit over-grilled. The corn chowder was fine, more of a blended broth-style soup. Desert consisted of a chocolate chip cookie and buttermilk biscuit with apple jam. The cookie had so much sea salt as to be inedible. The biscuit was dense and tasty. The meal, including non-alcoholic beverages, was about $85. Kind of pricey for what it was. The menu for the evening restaurant, The Kitchen, looks decent, so we may try that sometime. And the hotel looks like a great place to stay for a weekend. We'll steer clear of the cafe, though. read more

My husband had and enjoyed the breakfast biscuit sandwich with local Landmark cheese and I just had a basic biscuit with fresh butter. The place is adorable, the staff is friendly. They have a retail area with coffee and shirts and a small beer and wine cooler. Will update when we get to have dinner or stay! They have reserved parking close by the entrance for overnight guests. Brand new bar, restaurant and cafe in Paoli. Only the cafe is open for right now (January 2023). We had an easy time finding parking. The coffee was strong and plentiful. The breakfast sammies hit the spot for us - can make them vegetarian easily. The biscuit was perfect - flaky and savory. Cute gift shop attached. This is a wonderful addition to Paoli and the broader Madison area. read more
