The thing is that Ommy is a very nice and creative person. Ommy told me verbally that a permit wasn't needed and I trusted him. Yes, I am responsible for the electrical. 2) About my friend's honesty: She is part of a very tight cohort of friends including me. I have known her well for almost ten years, and we heard the entire story (from her perspective, it's true) for the last year. I believe her. My suggestion to you is that in the future you explicitly state in your contract whether a building permit is necessary or not, and have the owner initial the clause. We right away had a problem with the blue stone pavers as Zenji sealed the pavers with a product that failed turning white. I personally figured out how to remove the failed sealer but Zenji refused to warrantee the finish claiming we had altered the install. The lawn that was installed was dead within a month due to poor drainage. Zenji claimed we were responsible for drainage although we were never asked to provide drainage. Zenji is terrible to work with on warrantee items and takes an adversarial stance when asked to take care of problems. Do not work with this company.
