Back in 2021, Tim and his team at Sky Mountain Contractors completed a large project for us -- they rebuilt and re-decked our outdoor deck and constructed a beautiful covered area complete with soffit ceiling boards, recessed lighting, flat torch-down roof, and more... They also redid our fence and garbage-bin enclosure. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and communication throughout the project were exceptional. The finished result exceeded our expectations -- this outdoor living space has truly been a blessing for our family. Rain or shine, there's not a day we don't use it. We've hosted countless family game nights and gatherings here, and I'm genuinely grateful for this space every single day. I don't usually write reviews, but I'm taking the time because of what happened recently -- more than four years after the project was completed. We noticed a small leak where the deck cover connects to the house, water was dripping from the soffit boards. Naturally, we were stressed about potential water damage and repairs, but when I reached out to Tim, he responded within minutes and sent his team the very next morning! They inspected the area, found a likely source, sealed it and performed the necessary repairs, then advised us to observe it again when the rain returns and call them if further repairs is needed. This experience speaks volumes about the company's integrity and dedication to their customers. Even years later, they stood behind their work without hesitation. We had a deck replaced (with Timber Tech) by Sky Mt., and we are VERY HAPPY with the end product! My husband is very hard of hearing, and Tim's crew spoke perfect English. Tim's responsiveness throughout the project was amazing, which is rare to find these days. I am a perfectionist and expect the same of Contractors. I found only a few VERY MINOR issues along the way, but Tim and his excellent crew were right on it! Many months after the project had been finished, we requested a minor repair to our siding that was NOT even part of their work. They came up yesterday and fixed it for us! They went above and beyond! Also, we had a request for a unique fold-out shelf for feeding birds (which we make sure is never available to bears!). Tim designed something that works perfectly. Update to Respond to Business: "we mainly do more expensive projects" says Tim. Ah well, I have a saying about that. "Best not to piss people off on the way to the top because you never know when you're going to head back to the bottom." Thanks for taking on our cheap job. Shack-dwellers like us have clean floors too, though, just an FYI. ---------------------------------------------------------- Fired on the Spot Before Work Even Began We hired Tim's team to fix a water leak from the upstairs shower pipe. We explained that we also need a bathroom remodeled and a patio deck recovered and would hire his team for that based on how this job was done. Unfortunately, due to a set of the most simplest of customer service fails, we had to cancel Tim, to his face, today, before they began the job. It was a problem of attendance, respect for our home and just general rudeness. Last Tuesday, they were a no show. Via text message Tim told us 4 of his team members were sick but hopefully they would show THE NEXT DAY, Wednesday. Wednesday we received no text, no call, nothing. He sent a message via text stating that he told us that the worker would come when he was no longer sick. Why didn't he notify us? WTF? Red Flag number one, that's what. (See images with this review) We called and said, fine, lets wait until Monday to be sure everyone is well again. Today we get a text from Tim, saying he was outside our house, at 12:23 and that he's waiting for his guy. Then it started hailing, hailing so much it looked like it had snowed. But Tim was already here and our appointment was at 12:00. At 12:50 they finally walk into our house. They did not knock, just walked in. Yep. We do not wear shoes in our home. Our floors are very clean. Because it had just hailed outside, Tim and his sidekick's boots were covered in water and mud. They did not wipe their feet, nor did they put on boot covers. They just walked right in with their muddy boots. When I asked, "Hey will you guys be putting tarps down?" Tim mumbled something and shrugged. Then they proceeded to continue to walk through the house with their filthy, wet muddy boots...upstairs, through our bedroom and back down. When my husband mentioned that they had just done that and we'd appreciate they be a bit more proactive with the mud thing, Tim said "we vacuum when we're done." No apology, no nothing. Also, Tim, vacuums don't clean mud. Even power and cable companies use boot covers and tarps. Have some respect and general common sense. They went outside to go do something and I turned to my husband and said, this feels wrong. They didn't seem to care we had to take time off from work last week or about the mud they just tracked in. They're unapologetic and don't seem to care how we feel about anything. How can we trust them to act in our best interest while they work on our beloved home? We can't. Red flag number two. Final flag. This isn't baseball. When my husband went outside to let Tim know we were canceling the work, my husband said "It just doesn't seem like you guys care." To that Tim said, flippantly, "Yep, obviously we don't care." He did not apologize, nor seemed like it mattered to him that we felt so uncomfortable with him that we asked him to leave. So we fired Tim. 10 minutes later Tim sent a text NOW apologizing for having attendance issues but also accusing us of having "extreme concern" about our floors. After building houses, decks, and fences over the years, I decided that, in my retirement, I was going to contract with someone to replace my 25 year old deck. So I reach out to Tim -- who responds immediately with a quote ... and then, over the next few days, responds (same day) to my questions about permits, materials, and timelines. No small task. It involved replacing almost 600 square feet of untreated fir decking and adding 170 square feet around my hot tub. In addition, it required that the 24" center decking be upgraded to 12" centers. With no guarantee that the deck framing was square and plumb. Tim responds: "we've got this." Enter Matt and Dustin -- two employees at Sky Mountain who took on this job. They were amazing. Not only did they remove the old decking (in less than 2 days), they spent over a week re-framing the deck frame to ensure that it was square, plumb, and level. Their attention to detail on this part of the job exceeded my expectations. Then they began to build. OMG, where I would have cut corners, they refused. They measured at least twice -- usually 3 times -- before cutting once. Angles and miters are perfect. They threw away boards that didn't meet their expectations. They were obsessed with the quality of their work. Their work ethic and their attention to detail are second to none. As my wife (who knows nothing about construction but likes what she sees) told them: "you guys are craftsmen." Tim, Matt and Dustin are exceptional contractors and craftsmen. This review is long overdue, as I have hired this company to complete 4 projects on the exterior of my home over the past 4 years: Backyard landscape & design, Front slope landscape design & construction, Fence installation, and Deck replacement. All projects were completed quickly and without issue, and what I appreciate most about Tim and his team is that while they aren't perfect (no one is), he takes pride in his work and goes out of his way to ensure you are happy. During our latest project, he noticed an issue with one of the retaining walls he had done a couple years prior - he brought it to my attention and proactively fixed it. Tim and his guys had replaced my neighbor's deck in the summer of 2020, and based on the quality of their work I obtained a quote from Tim to redo my approx. 600 sq. foot deck that was cedar 2x4 boards. My deck was probably 27-28 years old and was starting to look poor despite my cleaning and re-staining every few years. Unfortunately, 2020 timing didn't ultimately work for me and I got a new quote from Tim in late summer 2021. By that time, the price of wood was very high, so I opted to spend a little more and get a top-notch composite (TREX). Tim's guys, Dan and Mike, were able to get most of the old boards torn off the first day. The next day they finished the tear-down, had all the old material removed from the property, took delivery of all the new TREX material and were able to get it all moved to the back yard. Once they started putting down the new decking you could see their attention to detail. Among other things, they built a special lift out hatch above where the dryer vent was located (former owners had the deck built right over the vent, with no consideration of how to clean the vent from the outside). Unfortunately for the guys, it probably rained for half the time they were working here, but that didn't seem to deter them. Every day, before leaving, they blew all the newly fallen leaves off the deck area. Bottom line: We're very happy with how the new deck looks. The estimate was detailed and easy to understand. The work was to repair some framing of a second story deck, improve piers, Trex type decking, and a Stainless Steel cable railing. Tim was very responsive when discussing materials to be used and had helpful suggestions. If you have deck work either high decks or ground level, i would strongly encourage you to consider Tim and Sky Mountain Contractors. My elderly parents wanted their deck rebuilt and didn't know where to turn. I researched and recommended this company based on Yelp. They took advantage of my elderly parents -- my parents had said they wanted 3 benches built. The head contractor said the contract only said "benches" so the two they built made it plural. This is very upsetting and manipulative and they clearly have no qualms about taking advantage of the elderly. They also did poor jobs the first time on laying pavers and when I visited from out of town and showed my dad, he had to convince them to come out and make it right. The tear down was poorly done and the contractors ruined the foundation pieces that were to be carried over into the new build so we had to get new ones. This caused massive delays in completing the project but there were no penalties in the contract for delays caused by their negligence, another advantage over the elderly. Overall, I do not recommend this company. They abuse elders, cause additional damages that cause delays with no repercussions, and are uncaring. There are other companies that you should do business with. read more

It basically changed a flat boring grass yard into a really cool flagstone paver pathway with a gas fire pit and a landscaping all over the place including lighting and a giant pergola. Overall a serious project that could have gone wrong in a lot of ways. They stayed on task, on time, on budget and added lots of value with ideas and expertise. It is long overdue for a yelp review of Tim's work on my bathroom remodeling: demo; install new double-sink vanity; walk-in shower; vinyl floor and wall painting. I contacted Tim and asked for a quote around July/17 who has been responsive as the other reviews mentioned. In addition, the cost is fairly competitive and it took about 4 weeks to compete the work initially. However, the process hasn't gone as I expected: * Probably due to volume of his contracts. Tim sent another crew who just joined the team for a couple of weeks. His shows were not really on schedule and thought the timeline is about 2 months! * I was out of the town for a couple of weeks during this time. Tim and the crews have been consistently asking for the extra costs which are out of the scope of original estimate; * The quality of work is also mediocre: wall painting is uneven; carpet is stained; left all demo and boxes at the driveway which he said they would be taken care of; gap between vanity and wall and no sidesplash installed; Overall, I suggested you should be onsite with the crew if you expect a high quality project. read more
