Andrei's stood out both because it was the lowest price quote, and he had the best reviews of any other respondent. It seemed a little too good to be true, but I figured it was worth taking a chance. I'm glad I did, because Andrei IS too good to be true, and yet he exists. Excellent communication, punctual, thorough and completely self-sufficient, the hinge replacement process started off great. Then, after expertly replacing the hinges, and even sanding a bit at the base of the door where it caused the door to stick when opening and closing, he checked to see how the door opened and closed - the door was now blissfully quiet, but still stuck, and he identified the door latch and plate as needing to be adjusted. Above and beyond! The door works perfectly now, it's literally like a new door. And because the door was to my mother-in-law's bedroom, having Andrei provide this superlative service scored me a few points with her (well, at least for a few hours, until she found something else to grumble about). He also left the space clean, and was very courteous from start to finish. Estimated time of completion = 2 weeks. I paid him the first installment and he started right away. He worked consistently for a few days. But then the absences began - he kept me apprised at first but then he just wouldn't show up for days. It has been more than 3 months and he's still not completed the basement. I've given him a $1000 advance for another project and he has not shown up for work since. He also has $500 worth of my stuff from Ikea that he picked up but never delivered. To be fair, he did mention that he had a personal task to attend to but that was in late June and I've not heard from him since. The most frustrating part is not responding to calls and messages (I have all logs). I've explained to him several times the urgency of finishing this work but he seems to have ignored it so far.
