So many goodies to choose from...!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE Good service and good offerings at reasonable make this worth the visit! === 2. FOOD Almond Croissant: sure it's more than $5, but it's decently-sized and loaded to the gills with almonds and powdered sugar while still being flaky-fresh - yum! The real value is the day-old section: three pastries randomly placed in a bag - these pickups worked for us: - Chocolate Roll: yum! - Apple-carrot Muffin: yum yum, and still soft! - Spinach Feta Danish: a great savoury treat! Note: for those of you with kids: they have giant Smarties-based cookies for $2.75! === 3. SERVICE It's great and patient, and full of recommendations. What more could you ask for! === 4. ENVIRONMENT A dim, aged interior awaits you - but it's really just enough space for you to walk in and admire the offerings in a couple of display cases while watching the staff behind the counter whip up more bakery delights. You could bring wheelchairs and baby strollers in here, but there would not be much room for anyone else during your visit. Parking is best found on one of the nearby streets - be careful not to park in the lot in the back, which is reserved for the cafe and other businesses next door.

Spotted a small line at Patisserie Daniel, a French bakery and pastry spot, while walking in the neighbourhood. It's next door to Jones Bar-B-Que. We dropped in on a Tuesday (12:00pm). Friendly worker that came around the counter to point out all the gluten free options when we asked. Only a handful, but it was a nice gesture. Huge selection of bread, muffins, croissants, danishes, tarts, cakes, cookies, quiches, sausage rolls and chicken pies. They also make custom cakes (vanilla, chocolate and GF) that start in the $29.99-$34.99 (6") price range. - Apple croissant ($5.25) - delicious with plenty of baked apple slices on top. - Mixed fruit tart ($5.25) - raspberries and blueberries were fresh. Light, tasty almond base. - Florentine ($4.25) - one of their GF options. Caramel butterscotch and dark chocolate on the bottom. Nice bite, similar to brittle. Would come back to PD to try more pastries. 4.5 stars.

Turns out that one of Victoria's MANY hidden gems are its small independently run bakeries - and Patisserie Daniel is DEFINITELY worth a visit. My family bought a cake here for my birthday - it was incredible. Not too sweet.... but sweet enough. All natural colours (and flavors?) not sure but it tasted a bit like coffee. Great texture on the frosting with some very artistic marzipan toppings. Could it be my birthday EVERY time we visit Victoria? I wouldn't be opposed if it meant eating more of this cake!

We wanted some dessert. After settling on black forest cake, we also got some cinnamon buns and two kinds of bread. Everything is top notch!

We had planned on getting something for dessert. After settling on black forest cake, I couldn't resist getting some cinnamon buns, sourdough bread and seed bread. All of it is not only beautiful, but also delicious!

A very popular bakery in downtown Victoria, and it's easy to see why. We stopped by for pastries…read moreand coffee. The shop itself is quite small, with only couple seats along the wall. Everything in the display case looked delicious, but we decided on the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry, the pistachio ganash tart and the pork & fennel sausage roll. The pistachio tart was fresh with a rich nutty flavor, though it took a little finesse to eat because the filling kept wanting to spill out. My favorite was the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry. It was flaky, with a delicate sweetness from the fruits and a subtle floral note from the rosewater. You can really taste the dedication in these pastries. I'd recommend going early in the day as many of their items tend to sell out quick.

We bought a cake here for my mom's 70th birthday and were so impressed! We chose the "Crusty…read moreForest"--their take on a Black Forest cake--and it was absolutely delectable. What we loved most was that it wasn't overly sweet. It had a wonderful, strong fruit component from the cherries that balanced perfectly with the chocolate and a light, thin layer of whipped cream. The cake itself was incredibly moist and executed with such care. It was a total hit for the celebration! I only wish we lived in Victoria so this could become our regular go-to spot for special occasion cakes.

Beautiful place, I love that there's three in one in this building, you have your cafe style…read moreserving coffees, the bread and party spot and then a meat and cheese and grocer restaurant style spot. We ordered a bread loaf at Fol Epi to take home as we've been before and loved it. This time we got the French loaf, it's not full sourdough but still fresh as can be and crusty exterior. I also got an iced vanilla matcha which was delish. We also ordered two danish style cheese pastry wheel things, my only criticism was the cheese was quite cook so it's more of a crunch pastry than a soft one with also a hint of mustard. Service was quick and very nice! Staff was chatty. No pics because we ate everything real fast lol.

I then went the second day to get coffee and I couldn't decide on if I wanted sweet or savory. I chose sweet..... and while I was leaving Victoria with my raspberry danish sitting in a nice little bag, I bit into it, and have to say it was one of the best danish pastries I have ever had, it was bakery buttery good, and they do not skimp on the raspberry jelly topping, where some places it looks like they just add enough to call it a danish.... well this was so good and if I had more time I would have drove back down to this place to buy up the rest of what they have. They sell baked loaves of bread, and individual baked pastries, and also coffee.... oh that is really good here too. Fol Epi... you are now on my to go list anytime I am in Victoria, and now looking back at my pictures, there are cookies, croissants, palmiers, kouign amanns...... and more.... I need to try. As another Yelper wrote... I wish I lived around the corner.... cause really I do, but that just makes this one special for a return visit.

Absolutely loved this place! Working Culture Bread was one of the highlights of my trip to…read moreVictoria. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, and everything we ordered was so well done. The orange latte was incredible...bright, slightly citrusy, and perfectly balanced with the espresso. It's one of those drinks you think about long after it's gone. I also had the breakfast sandwich, and it was everything I wanted: fresh bread (obviously), high-quality ingredients, and really satisfying without being heavy. You can tell this place is run by people who care deeply about their craft. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Highly recommend!

They have three options: vegetarian, vegan, and one with meat. I went with the one that has meat, and my friend got the vegan one. I also grabbed one of the savory danishes and an oatmeal cookie latte (yes, that's a thing, and yes, it sounded too good to skip). My order took a little while, but that made sense given how long the line was. I got my drink first, then the sandwich came out a few minutes later. The first bite was amazing. Super flavorful. The bread was soft and tasted fresh. I tried a few bites of my friend's vegan sandwich too, and honestly, it might've been even better than mine. How is vegan food this good?? I had the danish later at home and it was really good too. Can't wait to go back. I want to try the vegetarian sandwich next time and maybe pick up some of their cool merch.
