Patisserie Daniel, is a bakery worth checking out. The temptations are numerous. When you walk in, the smell of bread & pastries will have you immediately pull out your wallet, or should I say cell!? There's plenty of baked goodies here - bread, pastries, pies, cakes, with gluten & vegetarian options available. Great service & comfort in this cozy bakery. Come prepared to grab & go. I got the a Peach & a Berry Tart. Both were on point top notch. For Victoria, I'm going to rank this a close second to Crust Bakery - see my review. The cutest small bakery a little north from downtown Victoria. We stopped in while waiting for the fern so open. The prices are amazing, the staff is great and while not a trendy bakery the product is amazing. The croissant was perhaps one of the best and I crave it while writing this. It's a little low brow croissant but delicious. The oatmeal cookie with seeds was also good as well as the merengue. I wish the best for the bakery, truly a gem in the city. Spotted a small line at Patisserie Daniel, a French bakery and pastry spot, while walking in the neighbourhood. It's next door to Jones Bar-B-Que. We dropped in on a Tuesday (12:00pm). Friendly worker that came around the counter to point out all the gluten free options when we asked. Only a handful, but it was a nice gesture. Huge selection of bread, muffins, croissants, danishes, tarts, cakes, cookies, quiches, sausage rolls and chicken pies. They also make custom cakes (vanilla, chocolate and GF) that start in the $29.99-$34.99 (6") price range. - Apple croissant ($5.25) - delicious with plenty of baked apple slices on top. - Mixed fruit tart ($5.25) - raspberries and blueberries were fresh. Light, tasty almond base. - Florentine ($4.25) - one of their GF options. Caramel butterscotch and dark chocolate on the bottom. Nice bite, similar to brittle. Turns out that one of Victoria's MANY hidden gems are its small independently run bakeries - and Patisserie Daniel is DEFINITELY worth a visit. My family bought a cake here for my birthday - it was incredible. Not too sweet.... but sweet enough. All natural colours (and flavors?) not sure but it tasted a bit like coffee. Great texture on the frosting with some very artistic marzipan toppings. Could it be my birthday EVERY time we visit Victoria? I wouldn't be opposed if it meant eating more of this cake! read more

Where to start...first, you will get this amazing smell drawing you to this remarkable bakery...follow your nose. Second, the windows are filled with rolling pins hanging in lines...it's awesome. Third, this place is amazing. Watching the team work is incredible and then you have to try something they expertly created. What ever it is, you are going to be wanting to come back for more. The Apple Cinnamon Croissant was a gift from heaven. The almond croissant with the chocolate and powdered sugar...um...AMAZING. Then try the cinnamon rolls - you will not be disappointed. My daughter learned so much from this place. How can you go wrong when marzipan is used instead of fondant? Make the journey to this maker of mouth watering goodness. We were celebrating my papa's 65th birthday and staying in town and my mum bought an elegant black forest 6" cake from this bakery. It was so light and sublime that it was quite hit and shocked at how affordable it was. Fantastic cake! And beautifully decorated too. Our host purchased a black forest cake from here and it was delicious! So much so, that it was hard to stop eating. It was rich, full of flavor and super moist. It also didn't make me feel too full (or regretful) after I ate it. The cake was decorated with hand crafted chocolate flowers. Amazing cake. Our AirBnB host shared some chocolate (possibly the black forest) cake with us and oh my, it was incredible. I don't know how they do it, but the cake was not dry and it was not a heavy I-can-only-eat-one-piece feeling. Did I mention the finely crafted edible art that adorned the cake? Anyone can make a cake, but it takes a skilled artisan to create the cake I devoured so happily. Huge bakery, lots of people working, small shop area. Always a good sign. Some cases were actually overflowing with baked goods, from vegetarian pasties to French torts to luscious brioche cinnamon rolls. (To Americans who might see this: know that the brioche here is actually as supple and luxuriant as you might hope, and not the dry, eggy affair one finds in the States.) Everything I tried was good, with the croissants easily the best I've had west of Montreal. Delicious! Amazing! Mouth-watering! These are words I'd use to describe what I picked up from Patisserie Daniel for dinner tonight. It was simple enough: A veggie wrap and an almond croissant. Veggie wraps tend to be an after-thought in most restaurants and deli's, where they amount to not much more than a boring salad wrapped in a tortilla. The wrap I had tonight didn't have an ingredients list, but from what I could tell it had lettuce, red cabbage, corn, avocado, tomato, roasted yams, and a number of other fabulous greens. The almond croissant was light and flaky, drizzled in chocolate, and filled with almond paste. So good! Everything in the bakery looked fantastic and I can't wait to go back! read more

This is a find in less-travelled Victoria. The baked goods are so fabulous, especially their breads. On Fridays they do a special bread -- often a delicious focaccia with olives or other accoutrements. The best though is their sourdough rounds which I don't think can be beat in the city. They make gorgeous-looking cakes that are almost too attractive to eat with fondant creations on top. The cookies are often packed up for occasions (like Easter) and look wonderful in their presentation. Croissants are the best, especially the frozen uncooked ones that can be cooked for a Sunday brunch at home. They also have pre-prepared food that's all good - quiches, wraps, pies and other delectable goodies for taking home for dinner. read more

Very disappointing and unimpressive experience. We stopped in and spoke with Daniel about our wedding cake. He stated he could make it by the time specified and advised us to email that day... which we did. No response after 3 days... so I called and left a very detailed message...again no response or return phone call. I call yet again 2 days later only to leave another message and again no response. My fiancé walks into bakery the same day to find out what is going on and is told Daniel has left for the day. Our wedding is in 6 days! I would never depend on this place if you want a custom cake, unfortunately for us the experience was horrible! We shouldn't have to chase Daniel down to give him our money! Love the pasteries,they are delish... but the service in ordering a cake and any follow up was disappointing and unimpressive. I would not recommend you take a chance ordering a cake from here if it's for a special day or event... as there is no follow up to questions via email, or the phone... you'll be left in the dark wondering like we were. read more

I ordered a cake for my birthday and was very disappointed by the result. I told the person exactly how I wanted it; light vanilla cake with light layer of cream frosting. I even had the photo and ingredients of my favorite cake. No coulis or anything else. The result was very thin layers of cake with thick layers of heavy mixed cream with sticky custard. We had one piece and did not touch the rest. Will not go back. read more

I have had their savoury (i.e., meat) pies, seed bread, and croissants and all were excellent, especially the pies. Looking forward to their tourtiere (have had their duck, venison and chanterelles, chicken velouté, and roast chicken). They don't make baguettes because, according to the baker, they don't have the proper oven for this, which is too bad because my bet is that they would make a good one. I can't speak for their sweet pastries as I haven't tried and I don't eat a lot in any case. read more

If I could give Patisserie Daniel more than five stars, I would! His pastries are a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. I admit to being addicted to his cinnamon brioche with its gooey filling and lots of icing! His breads are wonderful, and his meat pies to die for, especially the Tourtiere. I love the quiches, today got a quiche and decided to also buy the chicken pie, both to go. Ate the chicken pie at home (heated up a bit); so disappointing - should be called potato pie with chicken flavour because it was mostly potato. At $7 a pop, not worth it.
